Scion Summoner

Creature — Eldrazi Drone

Devoid (This card has no colour.)

When Scion Summoner enters the battlefield, create a 1/1 colourless Eldrazi Scion creature token. It has "Sacrifice this creature: Add ." ( represents colourless mana.)

I think Hand of Emrakul, Decimator of the Provinces, Kozilek, the Great Distortion, and Pathrazer of Ulamog are too expensive to cast / commander ability for what they do. Some replacement examples would be: Terastodon, Void Winnower, Fleshbag Marauder, Noxious Gearhulk, Ravenous Chupacabra, Plaguecrafter, Eternal Witness, It That Betrays, Woodfall Primus, Acidic Slime, Ob Nixilis, Unshackled, Sepulchral Primordial, Overseer of the Damned, etc.

cards like Dalek Squadron with a sac outlet will get you a lot of Meren counters quickly. cards like Greater Good are great at filling your graveyard and your hand. cards like Oversold Cemetery are great for your low mana creatures and late game expensive creatures. Tragic Slip isn't a very good card for multiplayer commander, unless you are using something like Isochron Scepter

I think your deck is a little heavy on creature token generators, especially your creatures. I know they are there to build up tokens on Meren and to generate mana, in the early game, but they aren't doing much in the mid to late game. Maybe replace a few with some faster reanimator spells like: Living Death, Lifeline (a personal favorite), Necromancy, Animate Dead, Victimize, Rescue from the Underworld, Beacon of Unrest, etc.

Other cards I would consider cutting: Skullbriar, the Walking Grave (too slow imo unless he is your commander), Blisterpod (needs to die to get the token), Pawn of Ulamog, Vorapede, Village Rites, Gray Merchant of Asphodel (starts to shine with lots of reanimator stuff), Woe Strider, Scion Summoner, Brood Monitor, Deathreap Ritual, Commander's Sphere

It's tough to suggest cards for a budget deck. A card that I might consider to be absolutely necessary could require cheaper options in other parts of the deck to make it fit.

Upvoted!

I feel like Thraben Inspector is not producing creature tokens so is not on theme, and that Scion Summoner can be improved upon. My suggestions are: 4 Raise the Alarm or 4 Gather the Townsfolk, and then 3 Intangible Virtue for a pump effect.

Attention Everyone!

There are new decks to discuss up in the "Decks to Debate" section. Please take a look and give your thoughts.

@rumpy Thanks again for the deck, I think it has many good cards, in fact, I took a couple that I liked such as Pounce and Ambuscade. Although my deck is geared towards casual play I feel it has a more solid game plan. My deck consistently can abuse creatures that Rampant Growth when they ETB as this is the strongest ramp effect on a creature compared to something like Gatecreeper Vine that doesn't ramp. My deck then can deal with problems via my creatures like AEther Adept (very powerful effect to abuse, have as many as possible) and my other interaction spells like Lignify (the removal I liked from your list is soon to be worked in). After establishing myself I proceed to play huge creatures which were carefully chosen to give me a bit of a toolbox depending on the best way to get in for damage (Rancor is an auto-include as it turns your commander into a 2-shot kill with trample). The Peregrine Drake combo fits perfectly well into the deck as a fallback win condition, easily abusing any of my ETB creatures like Elvish Visionary to simply draw my deck or Eyeless Watcher to flood the board. I include a strong ratio of good draw spells and ramp spells as I calculate what those ratios should be for each of my decks. I pack good recursion to get back those beaters. Overall my deck is extremely resilient and has a strong gameplan.

Looking at your deck I can see you are trying to attack with Species Gorger which I don't think is a bad idea as it is decently big. We share a good amount of cards but our paths diverge when you include cards that dont ramp like Gatecreeper Vine and Sylvan Ranger. I feel tutoring lands into play is a much for reliable and resilient option. I'm not particularly a fan of how many token producers you have that only net you one token like Eldrazi Skyspawner and Nest Invader as that isn't particularly a strong effect. I also see some cards that I don't think are effective such as Leonin Bola, Explorer's Scope, Scion Summoner (along with the others that make just one token), Multani's Acolyte, Seal of Primordium (use creature based art/enchant removal since you can abuse it), all could be replaced with better cards.

Even with different game plans I'm still able to critique your list (which I'm very willing to talk more about and help out. I love working with people). Hopefully I've explained how I do in fact have a very solid game plan in my deck. (and thanks for bringing some neat cards to the table for me)

Take out Jaddi Offshoot. Not helpful. Temple of the False God is good. Rampant Growth over Sylvan Scrying. Blisterpod is good here. Skittering Invasion is great. You need a lot more creatures, because you'll die very quickly once they kill the one creature you manage to get out. Moar suggestions: World Breaker, Brood Monitor, Call the Scions, Eyeless Watcher, From Beyond, and Scion Summoner.

I've explored BG, look through this pages history for details.

Catacomb Sifter is better then Scion Summoner, the five scrys when paying for Westvale Abbey  Flip are fun, but there's not much difference otherwise. This deck just wants two bodies for three mana.

I've tried Blisterpod in various builds, but it always gets cut eventually. The other 1-drops are much more impactful. Ornithopter works out better then Blisterpod with both Westvale Abbey  Flip and Lifecrafter's Bestiary and also with Loam Dryad if needed.

Thanks happygilmore511, I overlooked the devoid cards. You search Gatherer for all the cards that are Green and Black in Standard and it misses Catacomb Sifter, devoid's the worst. Gatherer results - http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Search/Default.aspx?action=advanced&format=+[%22Standard%22]&color=+G+B

I also overlooked Scion Summoner which I'd prefer to Highspire Artisan in most match-ups - Scions are way better then Servos.

I'm going to add Catacomb Sifter for sure, just need to rework the mana base. I also really enjoyed killing stuff with Eliminate the Competition, I think I want at least two of those main board.

I learned a few things at FNM, I'll update this deck with some improvements soon.

I run a similar deck. I made it a while ago but have been updating it. I generate lots of tokens with Scion Summoner, Catacomb Sifter, Nissa, Voice of Zendikar, and Weaponcraft Enthusiast. I use Cryptolith Rite to ramp with them for cards like Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger or Decimator of the Provinces. I use sac outlets as well for my death triggers. Smothering Abomination does well too, especially because I run 4 Westvale Abbey  Flip.

Have you thought about Eyeless Watcher instead of Scion Summoner? It's a better target for Decimator of the Provinces and allows you to go even wider with tokens before you drop Decimator. Duskwatch Recruiter  Flip might also be something to think about, both as a creature ramp or card draw+selection for trying to find Decimator or a big threat.
