Eldrazi Displacer and Instant Damage

Asked by strictlyWorse 8 years ago

senario:

it is EoT for player A.

player A has 1 Eldrazi Displacer, 2 scion tokens, 1 Scion Summoner, and one open Basic Land (type is unimportant).

Player B casts a spell that does 2 damage to all creatures.

in response, Player A sacs the scions for two CL, and taps the open land. Eldrazi Displacer's ability is activated, and the Scion Summoner is chosen as the target, and blinks.

does the spell Player B cast kill the Scion Summoner regardless of it being exiled/blinked?

my understanding of this is that before the damage happens, the blink in response takes the target out of the game, and then comes back as a "new" creature.

It is a new creature, but it wasn't targeted and the damage hasn't been dealt yet. Pyroclasm works differently than say Shock. If you blink in response to a Shock the Scion Summoner being a new object means that it wasn't the one targeted and Shock will fizzle. Pyroclasm just deals the damage to any creature that is on the battlefield when it resolves. Scion Summoner not being the same object has no bearing on this. All creatures will take the damage, this damage will kill Scion Summoner and the scion it brought in.
