Jhoira's Artifacts STORM into Battle!

Commander / EDH UR (Izzet)

lordsauron

This an artifact based storm deck! General game plan is to get one piece of cost reduction, one piece of draw, Jhoira, and a couple low/0 drop spells. This generally should be enough to get you started to storm out!

This is a combo deck, and we need to get our combo pieces ASAP. Tutors enable us to do that!
These cards are the primary source of fuel for the storm. There are slim pickings for 0-CMC artifacts, so a few of these are here just for being that, and the rest of the text can pretty much be ignored. Generally, you'll want to save these in hand until your storm turn, but there are a few scenarios in which you may want to play one early.
Ramp can be played in one of two ways in this deck. It can either accelerate you into playing your combo pieces, or be storm fuel. There are a lot of cards in here that are "mana positive" by default, but there are also a lot that can become mana positive or mana neutral when combined with cost reducers. You're generally going to want to save your mana positive rocks for your storm turn, rather than ramping into combo. The exception to this is if you're getting mana or color screwed.
These cards can filter your colorless mana from artifacts to cast a bounce or finisher, or fix you early game. A lot of these also draw cards to help you dig for stuff early game or make the storm more consistent.
  • Cloud Key : Declare artifacts, unless you already have 3 other reducers out and are struggling to get the mana for a bounce or finisher.
  • Etherium Sculptor : Only costs 2, but one is colored mana, and more flexible to tutor for.
  • Foundry Inspector : More flexible to tutor for since it's a creature.
  • Helm of Awakening : Only costs 2 and reduces non-artifacts. However, it also helps your opponents' stuff.
  • Herald of Kozilek : Costs colored mana, does not trigger artifact synergies, and cannot be cost reduced by most things.
  • Jhoira's Familiar : Flexible to tutor for and reduces commander cost, but costs 4 mana.
  • Semblance Anvil : Reduces by two, but costs an extra card. Worth it early game if it's your only option or if you have a lot of stuff you can cast for free with it out.
Riddlesmith , Quicksmith Genius , and Vedalken Archmage all serve a very similar purpose. We need to get one of them out early to ensure we're digging through as much of our deck as possible to avoid fizzling.
  • Riddlesmith : Only costs 2. You can stack the triggers so that Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain resolves first, drawing you a card before you decide whether you want to loot. You don't always want to. If you've got a hand full of gas, there's no need, and you risk having to discard gas. You also want to ensure you get as high of a storm count as possible before having to stop to prevent milling yourself out.
  • Quicksmith Genius : Very similar to Riddlesmith , except it costs 3 and you need to pitch before drawing.
  • Vedalken Archmage : The most expensive at 4, but it doesn't require you discard. It also is not a may, which can make it riskier than the other two, as you're more likely to mill out.
Pact of Negation and Swan Song protect the board anybody trying to dismantle your set up or disrupt the storm. They also provide Chrome Mox fodder. Swiftfoot Boots and Lightning Greaves protect our setup pieces and provide storm fuel.
Most of these are mass bounce effects to return all your artifacts back to your hand to play them again, dig further, and increase storm count. Retract , Hurlyk's Recall, and Rebuild all function very similarly. Rebuild and Hurlyk's Recall can hit your opponents if you need to slow them down before you go off, but Retract is only 1 mana. Displacement Wave and Paradoxical Outcome are much better, since they let you leave your cost reducers on field or even bounce Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain if you have enough fuel and don't want to mill out. Junk Diver and Myr Retriever are combo pieces and storm fuel.
