Flipping the Odds - A Coin Flip Story

Commander / EDH Flip Jank Theme/Gimmick UR (Izzet)

Maybeboard

A "Vegas" style deck that heavily favors chance without mixing in general chaos. Do you feel lucky?

Some coin flip mechanic information:

  • If a spell or ability requires a player to flip a coin, the spell or ability can only be reacted to prior to the coin flip resolving. For example, an opponent can't wait for you to win the flip and take action then counter the action, they need to take a chance on countering the action before the coin flip.
  • A coin flip is only considered a "win" for the player predicting the result if they are the one to predict it and the result they predicted is used. This means when an opponent loses a coin flip, it does not count as a win for you.

Win Conditions:

  • Chance Encounter - large numbers of coin flip cards with win conditions for the player of the card combined with Krark's Thumb to twist things in your favor.
  • Goblin Bomb - Big damage to single target player
  • Okaun, Eye of Chaos - Commander Damage. Each won coin flip doubles Okaun's Power and Toughness until the end of the turn. It's very reasonable to see this stack quickly with a few wins 3 -> 6 -> 12 ->24. Combined with something like Whispersilk Cloak, Slip Through Space or Artful Dodge to help get the damage through makes this a serious threat.
