Kazuul's Toll Collector occurrence in decks from the last year

Kazuul's Toll Collector Discussion

DespairFaction on Aurelia - Equipment Voltron (EDH/Commander)

Greetings friend, long time Aurelia player here. Your list is looking pretty good, but there are some recent cards from that past year or so that are worth checking out that I think you'll really like.

Card Advantage stuff:

Tectonic Giant and Akiri, Fearless Voyager have both been fantastic, Tome of Legends is also really good for card draw, and I pair with Manifold Key if i need multiple untaps, but also serves the role of unblockabe for those pesky flying blockers. Ignite the Future is also a really good piece of card advantage as well as Commune with Lava which is really good with sword of feast and famine. Bonders' Enclave and War Room are newer lands that have performed well, but also Geier Reach Sanitarium and Mikokoro, Center of the Sea are solid for additional card draw again with feast and famine.

Equipment: You have most of the big equipment, just a few to check out are Dowsing Dagger  Flip its basically your second copy of sword of the animist, and Blackblade Reforged is damaged incarnate.

Creatures:

Since you are going full voltron, I'd like to see you incorporate more of the voltron synergy creatures especially the free equips. Fervent Champion and Kazuul's Toll Collector are both really good, although I have found I dont use Balan, Wandering Knight as much as i used to. Godo, Bandit Warlord is insanely good. Neheb, the Eternal is also unbelievably good, and combos with Aggravated Assault if you want the combo finish option available. I find that i go for feast and famine/neheb + aggravated assault combo more often than i go for helm of the host because of the lower mana cost, and the fact that enlightened tutor off of sunforger can find either half of the combo especially if you already found 1 piece.

Anyway there are 5 or 6 other cards out of Commander Legends that have been really good that Im still testing through. Once I get through a little more play testing I'll post the changes to my list, but in the meantime you can check out what I've got going in my list currently. Aurelia Weapons of War

jakeyuki12 on Rograkh and Ardenn's Swords for Everyone

The deck looks really solid. I'm gonna suggest a copy of Mask of Memory as it's one of the better equipment for drawing cards. You might also want a copy of Fervent Champion and/or Kazuul's Toll Collector for some redundancy in case Ardenn gets shot too many times. Maybe Balan, Wandering Knight for the same reason.

Otherwise, I think the deck is really solid. You've got an upvote from me.

Hiya! A few notable exclusions I see. Fervent Champion and Kazuul's Toll Collector are both excellent holders of equipment.\ Dowsing Dagger  Flip and Mask of Memory are both equipment that provide a lot of value when held. Sunforger is arguably the best Boros card in EDH. It is a must as it provides a tutor-able piece of equipment that can get you to answers. Speaking of tutors, Open the Armory is still cheap. Steelshaper's Gift has unfortunately gotten more expensive but is the best equipment tutor. Next is removal. Akiri synergizes with white's wrath effects really well since she can make those board wipes one-sided. I suggest running those Wrath of God and Day of Judgment effects. Additionally, Winds of Abandon is a recent piece of white removal printed that I find to be as much of an auto-include in white decks as Swords to Plowshares and Path to Exile. Finally, if you've been liking Flawless Maneuver then I highly suggest Deflecting Swat. This card is amazing and is excellent when your general only costs 3 mana.

jakeyuki12 on Budget Akiri Equipment

A few departments I think this list can use some work in: 1) There are two creatures who hold can equip for free that I think are essential in these kinds of decks. One is Fervent Champion, the other is Kazuul's Toll Collector. 2) Creature board wipes that destroy are really useful as Akiri can take really good advantage of them. Additionally, every deck wants board wipes. Wrath of God, Day of Judgment, Rout, Fumigate, etc. Additionally, I consider this card a new staple in white decks since it doubles as single target removal and as a one-sided board wipe- Winds of Abandon. One of the best white cards printed in recent years. Oh, and Dispatch is excellent in artifact decks. 3) I'm really sad to see that Sword of the Animist has spiked so much recently. If you can make the concessions in the budget I cannot recommend an equipment more. It is amazing with Akiri since it ramps you really well and draws you plenty of cards.

I like the deck a lot! I've been playing Aurelia for a long time, but my build is the balance build rather than the equipment focused build.

If you're going for the equipment build, I have a few suggestions!

For creatures, consider Fervent Champion, Kazuul's Toll Collector, and Balan, Wandering Knight. All of these hold equipment extremely well, and having creatures early on that can hold equipment and get you some early damage and advantage is great while you build up for the later threats.

As for equipment, Shadowspear is a really solid one- the lifelink and trample are both very, very relevant and the ability to take away hexproof and indestructible is really nice when you need it. Definitely recommend investing in that copy of Hammer of Nazahn that you've been eyeing, very worth it. Sword of Sinew and Steel has also been a really nice source of removal. It won't hit planeswalkers all the time, but when it does it's really good. It's also great for hitting artifacts, which happens a lot more often.

Lastly, since you are running Weathered Wayfarer, I recommend eventually picking up a copy of Ancient Tomb. This let's you turn the wayfarer, who normally only provides fixing and not ramp, into good ramp.

I like the deck though, you've got an upvote from me.

I tested last day Kazuul's Toll Collector on my Gwyn deck (even tho he sadly isn't a knight) and it worked wonders.
