Reflection

merrowMania, 10 years ago

Looking back, I should have played with 1-2 more Plains because of the Swans of Bryn Argoll *list*. I remember it being stuck in my hand on at least two occasions.

Changes

Firetra, 10 years ago

Mainboard -2 Abzan Falconer +2 Godsend The falconer wasn't doing much to help the deck so I removed it for a good scare tactic that can be put onto any creature. Sideboard +2 Surge of Righteousness +1 Despise +2 Foul-Tongue Invocation -2 Revoke Existance -2 Utter End -1 Gods Willing More reliable removal and some ways to get around hexproof creature and stormbreath.

Changed up the ramp to have Gyre Sagess in place of the Imperious Perfectfoils to hopefully fix my early ramp issues also dropped Planar Portal to 1 due to adding Eye of Ugin

Sarkhan Unincluded

LukeM, 10 years ago

Decided to ditch Sarkhan Dragonspeaker He just wasn't coming out often enough and when he did the game was usually a turn away from ending and he was never being utilized. So I upped the amount of Dragon Tempests to keep my main engine strong, took out a Lightning Berserker and added another Dragon Whisperer

Switchin' in and out.

jackanukealty, 10 years ago

Testing on untap.in led me to a few conclusions, namely;

-1 Ratchet Bomb, too slow to be effective enough to warrant having 2

-1 Torpor Orb, not as good as you think.

+2 Fabricatefoil, tutor for the hateifact you need

-2 Castigate. Not so good

+1 Path to Exile, Removal. Makes your opponent think twice before going full aggro

+1 Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver. Value control

Went 2-3. Wasn't taking the games that seriously. Felt like playing something different compared to my usual UB Control.

I went Black!

-Orvos-, 10 years ago

After taking this deck to my LGS and testing it out against other decks I learned exactly which cards were stronger than I originally thought and which ones were kinda meh...

Psychic Venom + Errant Minion is absolutely insane! They will take damage no matter what every turn!

Psychic Venom on its own was the hero of the night. It totally shut people down and even made some people scoop. This is why there has been the addition of Pooling Venom and Contaminated Ground, also the switch to U/B.

Power Sink devastated my opponents because they have to tap AT LEAST as much land as I put into the X cost of it. If I had Mana Web out it was everything, if they didn't pay, then it was still everything.

There were still some decks crazy enough to be able to attack me so I needed to add some blockers Fog Bank and Guard Gomazoa. The later will be replaced with more fog banks as soon as I can get my hands on them.

I had to remove some cards because they were just cluttering my hand making it harder to play efficiently. I never once used Sunken Field so its gone. Since Guile is really only there "just in case" and he can't be played early game I took him down to 2 cards from 4. Norn's Annex just hurt to much to play so its gone. And since Slow Motion recycles so well I took it down to 2 as well to make room for blockers.

So in Short:

+4 Contaminated Ground

+4 Pooling Venom

+2 Fog Bank

+2 Guard Gomazoa

+6 Swamp

-2 Slow Motion

-2 Guile

-6 Island

-2 Norn's Annex

-4 Sunken Field

LEG 90 / 100

UB Mill 2-1

chillistills, 10 years ago

Game one ashiok milled me into oblivion Game 2 drew loads of disruption and a goyf, and took down most of his health. got him down to 2 with a bob and untapped with bob and a garruk wolf waiting, he cast "mill until you hit 4 lands" hitting 4 lands immediately. He promptly conceded and left the game. Game 3 he rejoined and I drew a hand with no disruption but with a scooze and a treetop village. He played 2 orbs milling me every untap, and got milled extremely fast, however I was faster and hit him a couple of times with the scooze and a finks, then with 3 cards in my deck I activated a raging ravine and swung with 3 creatures for the win. This guy played no counters that I saw, but a couple of damnations. Maestrom pulse and abrupt decay were good here as their non-creature permanents are very bad news. Ancient grudge also very good if you remember to use it from the graveyard. It's pretty much like a burn deck with little room for anything but mill.

1-3 FNM: Needs to be faster

Spinifex, 10 years ago

0-2 and 0-2 against Red Deck Wins, 1-2 against Blue Black Control and 2-1 against Jeskai tempo. I drew very poorly, but that is not an excuse: the deck needs to be faster.

+3 Mardu Woe-Reaper: a good one drop with useful life gaining/graveyard hate ability in a warrior deck. Replaces 2 Kolaghan, the Storm's Fury and one Chief of the Scale (could remove one Arashin Foremost instead).

The Final List: It Works!

UpperDeckerTaco, 10 years ago

So now that I have finalized this list, let's discuss how this did at FNM.

Match 1: Vs Mono-Red Aggro (W:2-1)

Game 1: He got me with double Goblin Rabblemaster and I just couldn't remove him. Saw no Dromoka's Command and he was able to burn me out in the end. He won the game.

Game 2: Drew into 3 Dromoka's Command and just straight destroyed him with Brimaz, King of Oreskos with 2 counters on him. I took this game with ease.

Game 3: Arashin Cleric and Hornet Nest both showed up along Brimaz, King of Oreskos and just created a board he could not attack through. I took it again.

March 2: Vs Mono-Red Aggro (W:2-0)

Game 1: A different mono-red deck than the first 1, and I easily was able to outpace them due to their mana flood both games. Again Brimaz, King of Oreskos was golden here.

Game 2: Same song, second verse. Brimaz, King of Oreskos was truly king!

Match 3: Vs Mardu Dragons (W:2-1)

Game 1: Got him amazingly after fighting through 3 Stormbreath Dragons. Avatar of the Resolute was sooooo crucial here. Used the same Avatar to kill all three (via Den Protector buying him back 1x, and using a Dromoka's Command on him 1x, and a Dromoka's Command and Valorous Stance combination).

Game 2: He just had every removal spell possible and then slammed SBD and Thunderbreak, I couldn't do anything. He got me that game.

Game 3: A turn 2 Brimaz (which is rare), and a turn 3 Surrak closed the game quick and Den Protector with Boon Satyr bestowed on him finished the game. Win for me.

Match 4: Vs Orzhov Tribal Warrior (W:2-1)

Game 1: My first and only mulligan of the night. I had no option to keep and he managed to Thoughtseize my awful hand and I ran into only green mana with only white spells in hand. He took it easily.

Game 2: Ran out every threat it seemed like in my deck and finished him off quickly, he also drew into only black mana sources with only white spells in hand.

Game 3: Brimaz, King of Oreskos dominated and he brought friends, Collected Company 3x! It was awesome. Outraced him and was able to get rid of his Arashin Foremost with Glare of Heresy and his Blood-Chin Rager with my command! BOOM!

Match 5: Vs Esper Dragons (W:2-0)

Game 1: The dreaded rival deck! Was able to take game 1 with relative ease because a turn 3 Surrak and Deathmist attacking closed the game sooooo quick. He only had tapped lands for the first 3 turns with no Scorn! Yes! Game 1 to me.

Game 2: This match gets extremely harder after board. But it was soooo doable. Elvish Mystic turn 1, and Mastery of the Unseen on turn 2 along with mana in hand, wrecked! I was prepared for the long game. And I just ended up hitting every creature it seemed on the manifest ability. I went "ham" so to speak. Also, a Gods Willing actually won me the game! I attacked for lethal, he went to Hero's Downfall my Brimaz, King of Oreskos and BAM, Gods Willing and he had no back up counter for my SECOND Gods Willing! BOOM!

I won FNM with this deck finally. After getting 2nd place with a "version" of this deck 2 weeks in a row only losing to Esper Dragons, I finally found a build to pull it off.

FNM

mindcrush, 10 years ago

The deck went 2-1-1 at FNM and 2-1-0 in non-competitive standard play.

first fnm

kynrayn, 10 years ago

i made some last minute changes for fnm last night. added in Devil's Play Bonfire of the Damned and Blasphemous Act, took out Telling Time and a couple bolts. finished at 3-2. we had a really good turnout so we got 5 rounds.

round 1 2-0, BR vampires. relic of progenitus kept the blooodghasts down. a few board wipe until i top decked a bonfire and played it for 17.

round 2 2-1 abzan/podless pod. he took the first game, couldn't get a win con. gonna have to look into that. game 2 i had a turn 3 karn and turn 4 ugin. game 3 was devil's play to the face for 12 then flashback for 10 more.

round 3 1-2 living end relic of progenitus and the fact that this deck has a boatload of boardwipes was the only reason i got 1 win.

round 4 0-2 UR twin. just got my ass beat, not much to say here, need to get Combusts or Rending Volleys

round 5 2-0 slivers, all the board wipe followed up by a bowl of spaghetti. only time i played emrakul all night. batterskull and wurmcoil were the mvp's here though keeping me alive through the aether vial spawned swarm of those things

FNM - 6.5.15

LoPhat, 10 years ago

The deck performed very well - 3-2. I just gave away a few games to misplay, but I think you will have that when breaking a new list in. I am anxious to continue with this list - making slight tweaks.

Sidisi's Faithful was another standout in bouncing freshly cast threats to hand.

==

Match 1: GB Constellation. 2-0

Profaner of the Dead MVP. Game 1

Assault Formation awesome Game 2

Match 2: Jeskai Aggro 0-2

Was just a bit too aggressive on attacks. {Mantis Rider & Valorous Stance was able to knock me down a bit.

Match 3: Temur Dragons 2-1

Game 1 - Dragons was just faster. Needed Dragon's Eye Savants for Profaner of the Dead to help. Didn't draw it.

Game 2&3 - Assault Formation was awesome again, making games fast when dropped turn 2 and 3.

Match 4: Abzan Aggro 0-2

I simply gave away too many creatures to blocks. Was too afraid of discard too. I needed to be a bit more patient.Possibly different from the sideboard as well. Will need to ask around for suggestions on that matchup. Lots of removal also.

Match 5; G/U devotion 2-0

Rinse and repeat Profaner of the Dead MVP. Game 1

Assault Formation awesome Game 2

==

I may look to Commune with the Gods as a 1 or 2 of. That may help against Abzan. Pairs nicely with Deathmist Raptor

BR Burn 1-0, Junk 0-2

chillistills, 10 years ago

Junk was a very close game one with me bringing him to 2 health and having a good couple of turns to draw bolt but missing. Bad cards: pack rat (vs maelstrom pulse), finks not really needed, garruk - his creatures are too big and his blockers not big enough/can't block flying. good cards: removal, golgari charm vs lingering souls, bob.
