Grindstone + Painter's Servant is a win combo for mill. Cut Your Losses and Bruvac the Grandiloquent is an instant kill. Traumatize does the same thing. I don’t know what your budget is, but I would look into adding some tutors for consistency.

Fabricatefoil

Solve the Equation

Mystical Tutor

Hedron Crab

Ruin Crab

Snapcaster Mage

Spellseeker

Tribute Mage

Trinket Mage

The only reason I am only suggesting Mono Blue cards is due to the fact that I already have a Mill deck. Bruvac the Grandiloquent is my commander. You can Click Here to check it out for ideas if you want.

Thank you so much Femme_Fatale! The "---" looks like it's exactly what I need!

I am still seeing the foreign Force of Negation so if you are too it may just be missing the 'skip as latest' label in the database.

What you said about the foils also makes perfect sense with cards that only have a foil printings, but I was still noticing some cards that were being incorrectly marked as foil so I poked around for a bit.

I found that on "---" Fabricatefoil is Planechase foil, which I don't think exists, but I do know a non-foil version exist and so does a printing in a newer set (Foundations) that should be shown for both "---" and "Newest".

I also noticed that, when set to "Newest" all of the shocklands correctly show the new Clue foil cards, however when switched to "---" they revert back to their previous printings in Guilds of Ravnica and Ravnica Allegiance, but they are still marked as foil. The source of that might be a bit harder to dig out because it works properly again when set to "Lowest Price" even when showing the same printings for both "---" and "Lowest" (ex. Godless Shrinefoil). This is also true with Titania, Protector of Argothfoil so it's most likely that the logic that checks if it should be marked as foil, is not properly checking the 'skip as latest' flag.

I don't know if you all actually have a todo list but if you do, maybe you can throws this in as a note next to foil tags so that whoever gets stuck working on that someday has a little head start! :P

Thanks for all of your help!

I do not have a complete list, and it changes as new sets are put out, but currently Force of Negation is by default displayed in Japanese, Glistener Elf is in Phyrexian eventhough Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite seems to be normal, Estrid, the Maskedfoil is in Poster foil, and a whole mess of cards Akroma's Will, Dovin's Veto, Mangara, the Diplomat are in the new FF full art which I feel is somehow harder to read than the Phyrexian. I am also not sure why the site chooses to randomly make some cards foil. I have never designated a card as foil but on many of my decks cards are randomly assigned as foil, however this is not consistent. Fabricatefoil is foil in some of my decks but not others, Passionate Archaeologistfoil, Prosper, Tome-Boundfoil etc seem to be foil in all new decks I make. (Unwanted foils not only throw off the general value of the cards/decks but they also ass foil to the end if copied from the main list, so It's necessary to either delete that from every randomly foiled card, or go into the editing screen before copying the list. Below is an example deck I have made. If while viewing the sample deck you are not seeing the same style as me, I can provide screen shots instead.

Is there an option to opt out of cards defaulting to alternate art or foil?

P.S. In previewing my post I can already see that most of the examples above are displaying differently in this post than they are in the decks I am making.

In that case, might I suggest running some tutors to grab the Pod?

Fabricatefoil is the most straightforward, but Reshape can sac a golem to get whatever artifact you want as long as you can pay for it and Arcum Dagsson can do that repeatedly. You're in bant, so you can run Wargate to get whatever you want out of your deck, including Birthing Ritual. Enlightened Tutor puts it on top of your library but may be worth considering. Whir of Invention has improvise, so it can possibly read "UUU get any artifact you want out of your deck"

Another misc card I like a lot in my token decks is Idol of Oblivion as a draw engine.

I hope these suggestions help!

I know High Tide is a bit, let's say, "conditional" but I like that it only costs 1 to cast, which allows it to be [marginally] useful to cast counterspells in a pinch. Which I know Extraplanar Lens would too, except on the turn I cast Extraplanar Lens, which would presumably be as early as possible, but that's also often the most critical time to have mana available to counterspell. Does that make sense?

I'm certainly not in love with Ponder and Fabricatefoil - so maybe it makes sense to drop at least a copy or two of those in favor of something like Blue Sun's Zenith? Do you have other draw card/tutor spells that would help me get Eon Hub + Reality Twist + Back to Basics into play?

Perhaps it makes sense to have 1-2 copies of High Tide and 1-3 copies of Extraplanar Lens?

Thanks so much for the +1, approval, and thoughtful critique, Balaam__. I agree wholeheartedly.

My thoughts were: There's a not a lot of room for card draw and the deck has too many needs to be as narrow as Fabricatefoil is, but there with no narrow enchantment tutors or broad any-card tutors, the deck has to make do with what is available. To some degree, the deck has to rely on the control spells to carry it through until it hits what it needs. Whether Ponder and Fabricatefoil are the right combination - I have little faith they are - but a bit more faith the numbers (7 total) are in the right ballpark.

Similarly, Fog Bank isn't really what I wanted either. I actually would have preferred just a plain old Fog but no such spell exists for blue that I'm aware of or could find.

It's true that Back to Basics interferes with Academy Ruins, but I don't think that's actually a [major] problem - Back to Basics should make it a lot harder for opponents to remove Eon Hub. And, if some opponents are having too much success, there's always Illusionary Terrain in the sideboard to further flummox their land base.

I think a big part of this deck's problem - I did some playtesting to tune it and judge efficacy, etc - is that it has a lot of parts - decks such as this tend to be finicky and even with a lot of coaxing will sometimes just refuse to cooperate. Given the spell I was working with, I'd say I was successful, but if I were to grade the deck objectively, it's probably a C+.

May 3, 2024 I started a new quest. Having built 52 decks, I endeavoured to play them all, in roughly the same order as I created them.

June 14

Breya's House of Mirrors won. 14-11. Won a long game via Scrap Mastery. Really, though, it was Shorikai, Genesis Engine's card advantage and graveyard stocking. Sharuum the Hegemon reanimated Filigree Angel. Used Fabricatefoil to find Ashnod's Altar, Oswald Fiddlebender got Nim Deathmantle. and Sphinx Summoner had gotten a Myr Battlesphere all the way back on turn four .560 Combo kill 5

A few suggestions for losing the few friends who still want to play Magic with you: With Suppressor Skyguard or Mystic Barrier in combination with Pramikon, Sky Rampart, your opponent can’t attack you anymore. Cards like Archon of Absolution, Blazing Archon, Windborn Muse, Kazuul, Tyrant of the Cliffs, Archangel of Tithes, and Baird, Steward of Argive can also stop attacks from your opponent and are definitely worth checking out.

Since I see you’re playing a lot of enchantments and artifacts, I’d recommend including some tutors like Idyllic Tutor, Fabricatefoil, or Enlightened Tutor. I’d also suggest a few pieces of removal, such as Cyclonic Rift, Path to Exile, and Swords to Plowshares. Finally, consider adding Esper Sentinel for taxing and card draw.
