Legion Vanguard

Creature — Vampire Soldier

, Sacrifice another creature: This explores. (Reveal the top card of your library. Put that card into your hand if it's a land. Otherwise, put a +1/+1 counter on this creature, then put the card back or put it into your graveyard.)

DemonDragonJ I got what you were saying, no worries lol. And you were absolutely right in thinking that for asking the question as well. I had a hard time convincing myself to include Legion Vanguard saying that 1 generic mana was too expensive lol.

The last game I played with this I was extremely dismayed that the only sacrifice outlet I had out was corpse hauler and the squirrel. Neither are go to sacrifice outlets but more utility. So I added Corpse Blockade for another free source, and Gravecrawler for a third creature to make the sacrifice loop.

Okay well my suggestions are not so crazy...

I think the only thing that needs work is your creatures and getting rid of your artifacts and maybe one land as well.

So you'd have a total of at least 20 creatures. I'm not saying you need 20 or more creatures to be a good deck in legacy.

The only creature I like currently in your deck is Gifted Aetherborn. I like it because it is a good creature for the mana cost.

This is a list of vampire cards for you to consider.

Knight of the Ebon Legion

Vampire of the Dire Moon

Blood Artist

Bloodghast

Cordial Vampire

Legion Vanguard

Arrogant Bloodlord

Captivating Vampire

Bloodline Keeper  Flip

Sangromancer

Bishop of the Bloodstained

Vampire Nocturnus

Hello stranger, whom I have never met! Awesome concept! Some ideas that come to mind for refining this:

I think your mana curve is super high compared to the number of lands you're running. Since mono-black doesn't access to a lot of ramp, I'd suggest switching out some of your higher costs sorceries, such as Gruesome Discovery , with something like Duress . Similarly, I think that life gain cards like Increasing Ambition are too high costed, and don't really support your overall strategy. I'd suggest replacing with things like Raven's Crime , which you can retrace, or Dying Wail which offer better timing and utility.

Similarly, I think Headhunter and Hypnotic Specter probably have better synergies than your rogues. I really like [card:Black Cat], but think we could do more to trigger it on our terms. Carrion Feeder could be a cool addition, as could Legion Vanguard or Malevolent Noble .

Fiend Artisan is spendy, but would be such a powerful tutor and likely game ender in this build. Hell's Caretaker and Golgari Guildmage are significantly less powerful, but still allow you to exploit repeated triggers of your cats and Sangromancers. If you preferr an enchantment approach, Malevolent Awakening also works well.

I would definitely suggest upping the number of Painful Quandary , and definitely increasing the number of lands you're running to 20-22. I also think 4-8 removal spells, such as Murder , Doom Blade , or Poison the Cup would help respond to enemy threats and interruptions. I'd reduce the number of sorceries to make room - the looping creature threats have more of a long term board presence.

If budget weren't a consideration, a couple of copies of either Massacre Wurm or Sheoldred, Whispering One would make great finishers.

I hope this helps!

Kaeladin: Heya! Lemme try and answer all your questions :) Welcome to the best format in Magic -- and I'm glad my primer could inspire you!

1) This deck can do fine in a "no infinite combos" meta, though it depends what precisely that definition entails. I would shift the deck to have more "staxy" elements (so re-adding Ashen-Skin Zubera and Burglar Rat , etc), and focus on killing via Gray Merchant of Asphodel lines (with potentially a few extra clones). However, the deck DOES aim towards infinite combos in its current iteration, and avoiding infinite combos will tend to make you more commander-reliant, which also means you'll need more counters and protection. Note that the wheel + Hullbreacher lines aren't "infinite" but still might make people angry XD

2) The "Fresh Fish For Cheap" list cut most of the $20+ cards, and that's the best place I'd start with. I haven't updated that list, but Araumi hasn't gotten many new toys in Kaldheim/Strixhaven. The biggest additions from MH2 which I want to test are Unmarked Grave , Persist , and Dauthi Voidwalker -- which all should be cheap-ish, I believe. Apart from Hullbreacher and potentially Entomb (which I'd highly suggest keeping), everything above $20 in this list can be cut immediately, without any big problems -- run basics over fetches, and perhaps a few more Fleshbag Marauder effects. Oriq Loremage is great, as is Mystic Reflection .

3) Hrm. The biggest thing is that Araumi can be built in a thousand different ways -- she works well with just about any good ETB creature XD You could do things like include Gyruda, Doom of Depths or Sower of Temptation to steal more cards, clones to double up on good spells, etc. I would emphasize cards which says "for each opponent, do X" or "for each X you control", which "multiply" well with multiple copies. Sac outlets too, especially if you cut Phyrexian Altar -- maybe Legion Vanguard ? I hope this helps, Araumi is SUPER open ended and you can tune her to basically use whatever creatures you enjoy!

Please let me know if there's any other questions you have!
