Araumi Encore EDH: Value, Value, VALUE!!!

Commander / EDH UB (Dimir)

  1. This deck looked too fun NOT to build. Start by self-milling with cards like Grindclock, Hedron Crab, and Magus of the Bazaar, getting good encore targets into the graveyard. Then, tap araumi and bring 'em back for tons of value, either off of enter the battlefield triggers or die triggers. Cards like Floating-Dream Zubera, Broodbirth Viper, and Mulldrifter get incredible card draw when encored. Many other cards get you value in different ways and turn the game in your favor. There's a bunch of cards like Plaguecrafter because it is a great target with encore; you can cast it from your hand, sacrifice it (which is good!) and make all of your opponents have to sacrifice something. Then, when you encore it from the graveyard, you sacrifice the three tokens you make, which are going to die anyway, and make each of your opponents sacrifice three creatures! This gets around any sort of protection or indestructibility the creatures have, and can be a great one sided board-wipe.
  2. There are a few cards, like Altar of Dementia and Ghoulcaller Gisa, who are good sac outlets, since your encore creatures are going to die at the end step anyway. This strategy is powerful and efficient, but the deck doesn't focus too much on it.
  3. Finally, we get to the big boys, the win conditions. Gray Merchant of Asphodel, Massacre Wurm, and Archfiend of Despair, among many more, are all great on their own. However, when you encore them, things get crazy. Even with just araumi on field, if you encore a gray merchant with three opponents, you deal 21 damage to each opponent and gain 63 life. A Grave Titan encored after entering, swinging and dying, leaves you with 12 2/2 zombies. Effects of cards like Archfiend of Despair stack, so each opponent will lose at least 24 (or 48? JUDGE!!!) life after the swing. These cards are the win condition of the deck, and they're what we want to search for with Entomb and Corpse Connoisseur.
