Angels of the Multiverse project No.5 Innistrad

The goal of this project is to create a story themed deck that can still function decently at your commander game night tables, and provide a little story for you to tell anyone who might be interested if you or they really like a certain commander. It's also a good way to get someone interested in the lore of MTG.

**This will be the last deck for Innistrad so please enjoy! **

Innistrad's previous symbol of hope, Avacyn. When she was alive she was the central figure of the Church of Avacyn, she gave the humanity of the plane the faith to fight for there survival. Avacyn was made before the mending era by the planswalker Sorin to protect Innistrad. When Avacyn was made many of the angels already existing on the plane fell into an imitated respect for her and followed her. One of Avacyn's first acts as Archangel was to help the werewolves in the town of Gatstaf, She tried to break the curse of lycanthropy however she could not break it, The curse mingles the human spirit with the spirit of the wilds, and the wild spirit could not be destroyed without also destroying the werewolf's humanity; those afflicted with the curse would forever have it. However, Avacyn offered the Gatstaf werewolves a special place at her side. If they promised to serve her as guardians of humanity, she would transform their curse, fusing the two warring aspects together and allowing them to dwell in the light of her blessing. The lycanthropes at the Grotto accepted her offer, and she transformed them into the wolfir. In a powerful wave of spells that would become known as the "cursemute", Avacyn's magic spread through the plane, transforming not just many werewolves but many of the world's foul curses. The wolfir emerged as a new race of great wolf creatures dedicated to the principles of the Church of Avacyn. However, some of the afflicted humans were fully cured and it allowed to lead normal, non-hairy lives.

Avacyn's Disappearance: The demon Griselbrand was being hunted by the planswalker Liliana Vess and he thought it to be a good idea to hide from her. In this choice he called out Avacyn, a challenge. The two fought and he allowed himself to lose but his demonic nature still had the better of him, instead of just hiding in the Helvault, as he was falling into it he grabbed Avacyn as well and the two became lost inside the horrific monument.

Avacyn's Return: The planswalker Liliana Vess visited Innistrad in the hopes of destroying the demon Griselbrand, with whom she had made a demonic pact that would result in her soul's enslavement. To this end, she wanted to open the Helvault. By forcing an ultimatum on Thalia, its guardian: either she'd destroy the rock, or her soldiers would die, against her better judgment Thalia chose to destroy the Helvault. This resulted in the release of both the demons trapped there, by Avacyn and the other angels of the plane. Avacyn Upon being freed, slew some of the demons as she ascended to the skys above, restoring mankind's defense against the darkness. However this blessing of Avacyn return was not for long. Avacyn led Innistrad's humanity into a time of prosperity and peace that lasted roughly a year. By the end of that year's Harvest Moon the planswalker Nahiri arrived on Innistrad seeking vengeance against the planswalker Sorin. Unbeknownst to Avacyn the planswalker Nahiri had been constructing cryptoliths which redirects the mana a plane. This is especially harmful to the angels, who are formed of raw mana and prayers. In the constructing of the cryptoliths Avacyn's mind corrupted itself turning love into hate and joy into anger which in turn made her feel a sense of pure disgust and hatred toward humans. In Avacyn's mind the only way to save these vile humans was to extinguish them all, thus killing the vampires and ware creatures as well, as there was be nothing for them to feed but each other till they were all dead. This idea perched itself at the forefront of Avacyn's mind and she began collecting other angels to help her. During this time not all, but many angels from many flights were mentality corrupted including Bruna and Gisela, who added their flights to Avacyn's crusade on humanity. All was looking well for Avacyn's plan however there was one angel who Avacyn felt was of equal strength to her, and she needed her help, Sigarda. Avacyn paid a visit to Sigarda's house, alongside Bruna and Gisela. By this point, Avacyn's eyes were already fully and prominently black and her spear began to shift into a more menacing weapon then one that was a beacon of hope. Avacyn in her maddness expressed her thoughts of disgust towards humanity and became dominant, advocating a genocidal solution to Sigarda. Sigarda remained unconvinced and expressed back to Avacyn, Bruna, and Gisela that humans are meant to be protected not killed, but she could see that Avacyn would never listen to her, however she was saddened to know that Bruna and Gisela had fully given in to the madness and that her words were falling upon deaf ears. Avacyn blew up Sigarda's roof in anger, and implied a threat of death towards her should she not collaborate, and then the angels left Sigarda in her broken home echoing the threat.

Avacyn's Fall from grace: Commanding a flight of angels, she attacked a town, slaughtering its inhabitants with beams of light and prompting some angels within this new flight to have wavering faith in their Anrchangel saying they would ask Sigarda for help, These whispers angered Avacyn's, she pointed a beam of light at the angels flying away turning them into ash. Satisfied, Avacyn kept attacking the town, now hearing soothing whispers from the Moon. During the attack of the town Avacyn encountered the planswalkers Jace Beleren and Tamiyo, who tried in vain to restrain her. As she prepared to kill the two planeswalkers, Sorin Markov arrived, asking her to accompany him to the Vault of the Archangel where he had created her. Avacyn did not recognize him, telling him to stand down or face her wrath. As her spells did not affect him, Sorin told her that he was her creator no, her father. Avacyn's madness momentarily withdrew. She questioned herself, reminded of her acts in the grip of madness, she fell into a deep sadness at what she had done. She came to denounce Sorin; since he had created her, he was responsible for the flaw within her that had driven her against the innocents of Innistrad that she wants to protect and thus was responsible for the creation of Innistrad's greatest threat. Realizing that she could not harm Sorin, Avacyn instead called the mad angels of her new flight to attack him. The ancient planeswalker was able to defeat them which caused him so much sadness to see the planes defenders in this corrupted sate, but the madness once again took hold of Avacyn, allowing her to harm Sorin. In the ensuing battle, Sorin managed to plummet Avacyn through the Cathedral floor into the Vault where she was made. Sorin offered to heal her, but she refused, stating that she wasn't the daughter he had wanted, that they would battle again and again because she would not yield to him. When she stated that she knew Sorin would simply bind her, because what cannot be destroyed must be bound, her father answered with tears in his eyes, saddens whelming over him. Hey says "you could very well be destroyed". Avacyn's eyes turned up to him and as Sorin unraveled the spell that had formed her, in Avacyn's last moments she continued to stare at her creator, her father with tears in her own eyes. Her thoughts were her own now with no maddens creeping over her mind, her last thought was: "I am Avacyn. I am to here to protect."
