Brutal_B on Pattern Recognition #132 - Vehicles

I was hooked on vehicles from the get go. Here's my vehicle edh deck. Shameless plug I know but why not show it off in the light of this article. Creatures with the Inspired mechanic work great for vehicles. King Macar, the Gold-Cursed , Sphinx's Disciple , Oreskos Sun Guide and others are great additions to vehicle centric decks. Like mentioned in the above article, some of the pilots of Kaladesh: Gearshift Ace , Ovalchase Daredevil , Speedway Fanatic ... Not to mention some of the artificers in the same block. They all mesh to create a cohesive deck that's a blast to "pilot" ; ) Some other creatures worth mentioning are as follows: Hateflayer , Golem Artisan , Night Market Lookout , Mishra's Self-Replicator , Throne of the God-Pharaoh . And Mirrorworks cuz why not, right? Of course these are for the commander or modern minded players.

I don't mean to steal the spotlight berryjon but I just couldn't hold back. The potential that vehicles hold is fun to witness unfold and I can't wait to see what WotC has in store for future releases. Keep up the Pattern Recognition articles..I always look forward to them.

VEHICLES ARE AWESOME!

With the Mirran Spy variation you target the creature you want to untap with Knack (say, Sphinx's Disciple ) and the Spy just sits there and let's you untap it when you play your Ornithopter . If you have some sort of passive effect going like Impact Tremors you can target the Spy with Knack and it can use the triggered ability to untap itself.

Hey, always wanted to try a Phenax deck myself. Given his tap for mill ability seems like it would be your most consistent mill effect, why not try some cards that gain bonus from tapping like these cards with "inspired" ability: Arbiter of the Ideal, Daring Thief, Disciple of Deceit, King Macar, the Gold-Cursed, Servant of Tymaret, Siren of the Silent Song, and Sphinx's Disciple would be some good ones to look into.

Any good walls would also work for your commanders ability and there are numerous merfolk that have mill abilities (pretty sure most are budget friendly).

Also things that untap your creatures are a godsend (get it?). Paradox Engine and Staff of Domination are the most powerful ones I can think of, but probably not budget friendly. Otherwise there's Magewright's Stone, Umbral Mantle, and Sword of the Paruns as some other options. Blue also has a ton of untap effects, too.

As for what to take out?....Well to be honest, I think I listed too many things. I guess just think of these things as ideas to ponder on. I would suggest removing Tetzimoc, Primal Death for King Macar, the Gold-Cursed though for your creature removal.

It's simple: I don't like Mystic Remora, not because I think it isn't strong (it's way too much powerfull) but because of the cumulative upkeep (the trauma in the League). So, if you want to play it do it, I have nothing to say, but if I (and me only) can use something else I'll do. And yes, Sphinx's Disciple is worse BUT it can beat for 2 damages per turn and lets you draw whitout pay any mana, if killed you can recycle it from the grave and in some (very rare) occasions you may tutor it with Brainspoil. As you see he's not THAT bad ahaha

Im glad if i helping!

Cant understand your point about Remora. Its way better then Sphinx's Disciple for example. In MP i usually draw 1-2 card each cycle (from my turn to next mine turn). So, pay for it only 2 turns, i will draw ~5 cards, that Sphinx's Disciple do only in 7 turns!
