Idoneity on Dark Eyes and Careless Hair (Alela EDH)

I definitely understand that. There is a point in each deck's life where you just feel, "Wait, but I like all of these cards," maugre any good argument against it. Here is the opposing side, whereupon I have some arguments against a few cards, leastway to bring forth my opinion.

If you're not going infinite, Altar of the Brood is lacking, sometimes acting as an affliction. It mills the opponents, thusly furthering strategies such as Chainer or the selcouth and sparsely known Muldrotha (Who plays her, am I right?). The deck appears to have naught in terms of combo lines in its current variation, so meseems this is an easy exclusion.

Now, Unwinding Clock is great, but how are you actually abusing with this untapping? The payoffs seem to be Bident of Thassa, Spear of Heliod, Ethersworn Adjudicator, and a few instants, withal not being enough (There's more, yet I am indolent). Taffy can be interesting, though I think another draw engine would be more potent, or add more reward to the deck for the sake of this working.

Thopter Spy Network... Kill it. Murder it with all of the removal. This is a worse Reconnaissance Mission, for it only triggers upon artifact creatures and at most once. Inutile.

You know what's great? Casting a Treasure Mage and "failing to find." There is distinct lack of 6 CMC tutor targets in the deck, thusly making this a worse Belbe's Percher. Red rum. Following their ensample is the esteemed Trophy Mage, which has a seldom few targets, yet is probably worth it, though notable for the guillotine pile.

I am biased, I don't like voltron, I kind of somedeal maybe perhaps don't quite very much enjoy Mace of the Valiant. It is slow, is bereft of any game betime, and requires much time being upon the table. The mace may very well be of use, though I personally would not run it. Must...keep...drawing...CARDS!

That shall be all, folk. Good luck with your cardboard murder conquest!

Not really into cEDH (other than by watching the Spike Feeders & Playing With Power MTG) so take my thoughts with a pinch of salt:

Sanctum Prelate another flexible stax piece

Reliquary Monk some more flexible ETB item removal (tbh not really a fan of those; seems like a kinda puny Winota reward)

tapping humans, dunno if they're too slow: Nova Cleric, Magus of the Balance, Hammer Mage, Bounty Agent, Mangara of Corondor

niche hosers: Harsh Mentor, Aegis of the Gods

non-Human stax/hatebears/hosers that can enable Winota without risking themselves too much: Kinjalli's Sunwing, Leonin Arbiter, Vryn Wingmare, Rampaging Ferocidon

I feel the Auratouched Conscription combo to be gimmicky, esp. since you won't benefit from annihilator until the next turn

Glad I could help with some insights. I had a couple of other thoughts along the same lines. One being Demystify for your enchantment control option (much more mana-efficient than Nova Cleric, and doesn't require 2 turns to pull off, since the cleric can't tap right after you drop him even if you have the mana), and the other being Bone Splinters which is an especially handy option for any deck running Black mana as well as using creature token generation and is cheaper and more inclusive than Cast Down, with the only exception being a Sorcery rather than an Instant -- but with creatures there's often not much they can do on the turn they enter play that won't also occur with Cast Down. Sometimes those legends are the backbone of a deck combo, so you may find that more useful.

I'll be looking for the updates; some of these cards really take me back to my heyday. Good luck!

Apollo_Paladin Thank you for the compliment. I gave a look at your deck, and it gave me some ideas, specifically with Unearth. I know what you're thinking with Chromatic Lantern but I really like it as a little bit of an insurance policy to help maintain floating mana. I took your advice with moving Nova Cleric to the sideboard until I find something more cost effective for enchantment removal; so more updates to come. I also removed Dark Supplicant and the Scion of Darkness. It felt like unnecessary/cumbersome when more efficient means of sacrificing exist and adding another Coat of Arms seems like a better use of space.

So far my favorite combo that I have been playing around with involves sacrificing Selfless Spirit for 1-3 zombies tokens (courtesy of Rotlung Reanimator), then tapping cleric tokens that Hanweir Militia Captain  Flip provided to use Skirsdag High Priest and get 1-4 demon tokens, then using Unearth to put Selfless Spirit back into and ready to sac again for the next turn, and depending on how many Suture Priests are on field gaining 3-12 life for the low low cost of 1 mana, pending what is already on the field of course. Additionally, Coat of Arms really makes this a nasty combo.

This looks like a fun deck to play. Good synergy and versatility. +1

One thing I've found using Orzhov colors is that Knight of the White Orchid can be extremely handy for adding a little bit of mana ramp. Particularly using him to tutor out Godless Shrine. Maybe he'd help you along too despite him not being a Cleric (I've used him in a couple different deck builds actually). If nothing else he still counts for Hanweir Militia Captain  Flip, can still tap for Skirsdag High Priest, and works as sacrificial fodder for Westvale Abbey  Flip.

As far as what to trim down on, Nova Cleric can probably go, or at least get sideboarded, since board wipe enchantments only really help against an enchantment-heavy deck. With 1 to cast into play and 3 to activate, he's seems a bit cumbersome. There are cheaper ways to deal with a pesky enchantment here and there (literally just search 'destroy target enchantment' on the Gatherer database at MTG, as there are far too many to mention). Chromatic Lantern also doesn't really fit given that you're running plenty of dual lands and those Evolving Wilds.

Beyond that, you may want to check out my deck on my profile here called:

Very Fast Death Factor (Budget Speed Dredge!)

There might be some insights there for you on other ways to help with efficiency tutoring/playing high-mana cost creatures.

If you’re having a problem with pillowfort decks then you can try out Austere Command and Cleansing Nova . A good budget option is Cleanfall , Leave No Trace , Paraselene , and Nova Cleric . If Ashnod's Altar is only in here to provide mana to attack through pillowfort than you’d be better off with a board wipe.
