So to start if off, try asking yourself what your deck is trying to do and how it interacts with your commander. Are you trying to kill through commander damage? Or to flood your board with elves and pump'em up? Maybe to get into some graveyard shenanigans? How does your commander support your strategy? And lastly, How are you going to win? At least that's how I like to build my decks :)

What comes to my attention right off the bat is your mana base. If you are running on 33 Lands (Which is not a lot) you should at least include the usual mana dorks such as Llanowar Elves, Elvish Mystic, Fyndhorn Elves, Elves of Deep Shadow etc... Also, I find your lack of Sol Ring disturbing.

So far, your creatures seem to be a bit all over the place and personally, I find your creature count to be too high. Duskwielder, Masked Vandal, Nissa's Chosen, Talara's Battalion, Nullmage Shepherd and Thornmantle Striker seem the most random that do not go with any strategy I can see really apart from being an elf. Try to focus on a strategy and filter out the best elves to pull it off.

In case you are actually going for a graveyard/recursion/value theme, you need sac outlets like any Altar, really.

Generally good cards with any strat you might want to check out for this deck:

Skullclamp Amazing carddraw if tokens are available.

Beast Within Green staple for removal as it lets you get rid of almost anything, including lands.

Bounty of Skemfar Ramp + Dig a bit into your deck to get an Elf.

Lightning Greaves Commander staple for haste and protection.

Bojuka Bog Free Graveyard hate!

Gilt-Leaf Palace If not here, where else?

Hope that helped a bit :)

Sorin_Markov_1947 thank you so much for your suggestions! I'm new here (obviously) so I mislabeled the format. This is an arena deck, so there aren't actually legality problems.

I may have also mis-labeled the strategy a bit, I still don't really speak the lingo. It really does hinge around Piper of the Swarm and/or Sanitarium Skeleton , Ayara, First of Locthwain , Lampad of Death's Vigil .

In an ideal turn, I make a rat with the Piper, this takes one life via Ayara. I then sacrifice it with the Lampad, which also takes one life. If I can't keep a Piper out, I have the Skeleton, and Liliana is a cheaper way to regenerate a skeleton each turn. Bastion of Remembrance doubles damage from the sacrifice with the Lampad, and Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose doubles everything. With Sanctum of Stone Fangs and Dogged Pursuit a turn with only 1 rat creation and sacrifice has the potential to do 10 damage.

That's the plan, at least.

I have trouble keeping Liliana and the piper out, so I end up defaulting to the Skeleton's ability a lot.

An earlier version of this used Marauding Blight-Priest and Duskwielder , but I found the Piper/Ayara/Lampad combo got watered down.

I've thought about Gray Merchant of Asphodel and Gloom Sower as additions, but they're very expensive.

I don't quite see how Castle Locthwain and Faceless Haven fit in here. Can you say more there?

Well, this isn't a bad start! Usually, Vito decks are Orzhov because white has so much lifegain. If you're determined to stay mono-black though, let's get started.

Underwhelming cards: Piper of the Swarm , Sanitarium Skeleton isn't Standard-legal, and Liliana, Death Mage . These just have nothing to do with your deck and don't belong. Lampad of Death's Vigil , sacrificing a creature is just too steep a cost unless you go the full route of making this a sacrifice deck (not impossible here, although it works best in Rakdos).

Cards to have instead: The fourth Vito. He's absolutely critical to your deck, so you need four even if he's legendary. Your opponents will kill him a lot, so you'll want that extra copy in your hand anyway. Gray Merchant of Asphodel . At a minimum, he drains for two. With Ayara and a lot of static permanents in the deck, it's likely to be a lot more! Duskwielder is a possibility if you needed early things, as is Serrated Scorpion . Marauding Blight-Priest is essentially a redundancy for Vito in this deck.

With a mono-colored mana base, you've got tons of freedom here. Castle Locthwain is an instant four-of in my opinion, and if you're finding that you have turns where you just do nothing, make all your swamps snow and put in Faceless Haven .
