Trading a soul for a diamond

FrostBytes, 2 weeks ago

-Mox Diamond

+The Soul Stone

This was a difficult decision, but ultimately, I believe it to be the correct one.

MTGA playtesting results

adventfaith, 2 weeks ago

I've been playing this deck for a many matches now online and I've noticed some cards that feel kind of weak compared to the others.

Ashaya, Soul of the Wild it's just a big creature that I almost never play as it's too easy to remove.

Howling Moon is limited on usage, i don't get tokens often and the +2/+2 is often unused

Boneyard Lurker underutilized by me for both creature and mutate

Burgeoning is only really good if you have it out on turn 1 or 2 and have the lands to even play

The deck isn't bad in a 1-vs-1 format, it's strong against token decks and lower cmc deck but is weakest against discard and other hard control decks but you could eek out a win against those with the return to battlefield effects to keep the pressure on. I should consider some creature lands as a backup damage source. It could use some more card draw and ramp though, both for the bigger cost things and to assure you have some mana left over for your protections spells and to thin the deck a little bit to make sure that you have some bangers instead of drawing a land.

You're fired! : Cost Cuts

adventfaith, 2 weeks ago

I'm looking into cutting out some cards to reduce this to a more budget friendly deck. so i'm going to cap the cost of a single card in the deck to $10-$15 at most(per tcgplayer average market).

So you're getting let go due to cost cutting:

Agadeem's Awakening  Flip

Burgeoning

Damnation

Doubling Season

Grim Tutor

Mithril Coat

The Great Henge

Torment of Hailfire

I do own a few of these cards, so i'll move them into the maybeboard as they are replaced so you have upgrade options

Not often I so hastily seek to implement suggestions! I have cut Heartless Conscription, Demonic Tutor, Get Lost, and a Plains. In their lieu, I have added Damn, Thalia, Heretic Cathar, Eiganjo, Seat of the Empire, and Kambal, Consul of Allocation.

Removed: Swamp, Plains Added: Forest, Command Tower

Pulled a card, going straight in the deck

+The Soul Stone

-Siege Rhino

In treating, Siege Rhino wasn’t living up to its former glory. I pulled The Soul Stone and figured I’d replace the most under performing card. The Soul Stone’s effect will also allow us to gain even more value from our ETB creatures!

removed Unearth for Blasphemous Act

Need a board clear. Had a game where Unearth sat in my hand all game. Cycling it might have been possible, and Victimize might be worse to keep in, but the reduced restrictions and potential for bigger board impact from Victimize wants me to leave it in

removed Sabin, Master Monk and Solemn Simulacrum

added Enterprising Scallywag and Lightning Greaves

Sabin enables things like Gau and Shadow and is repeated discard if cards end up in my hand I'd rather in the graveyard, but just pretty bad. Solemn is too slow.

Scallywag gives treasure and is a pirate for Vaan, Street Thief, and Lightning Greaves provides important Haste for Locke and protection.

General Rework

Xalor90, 2 weeks ago

It’s been a while since I’ve updated this deck, so I made some changes to fit my current play style. I removed a lot of cards in favor of two strategies I have in mind for this deck now: the first is the original purpose of controlling the board through constant board wipes and being able to quickly repopulate my side with token generation, while the second is to force opponents to discard and increase draw and discard on my side. Liliana's Caress is great for increasing damage to opponents when they discard, while Mystic Redaction & Teferi's Tutelage allow me to mill my opponents whenever I draw or discard. Throw in cards like Dark Deal for maximum effect.

Minor Revisions

MrHuffle, 3 weeks ago

+Petrified Field \\ -Strip Mine: More often I would rather bring back my Maze's Endfoil than Strip Mine another land.

+Temur Battlecrier \\ -Ruinous Ultimatum: While good, might be even a bit much for this deck - to remain on the maybe board for now. Testing if the ramp from Battlecrier is worth it.

Proteck ya neck

Added Teferi's Protection and took out Vihaan, Goldwaker

Still need to add Clever Concealment and maybe one m ore protection piece; this deck folds hard to wraths.

Maybe add Cathars' Crusade? Gotta get across the finish line
