After many nights on Cockatrice..

hazphokksy, 10 years ago

I'm trying the deck as tempo/mid, rather than tempo/aggro - Delver has been replaced with Brimaz and Mentor, we've thusly added a copy of Zealous Persecution and Sorin, and I've changed the spell count, tuning to relevance. We've also added two telling times as alternatives for open mana with remand in hand. The deck may go back closer to original, BUT FIRST! Testing! Let me know of your findings, should you have the inclination to help: )

Still missing 3 vital cards.... Alchor's Tomb,, Enlightened Tutor, and Greater Auramancy.

Still working on fixing the tap land issue. Forbidden Orchard, Mana Confluence should help. Might save up for some duals.

Lowering the CMC

piebandit, 10 years ago

So, I really like this deck, it's very cohesive. the only thing I found it needed was a little less variety in favor of a shift down in CMC, so I replaced several cards with lower costed versions. We'll see how it goes!

Budget changes

HonoraryFugu, 10 years ago

Huge props and gratification to CyborgNate and jcb.cbb

Originally subbed Into the Roil for Cyclonic Rift, but budget came in and the Cyclonic Rifts are now Void Snares.

Lots of land changes for budget.

I took out the 4 Darkwater Catacombss, 1 Dragonskull Summit, 1 Temple of Malice, 2 Tainted Isles, 1 Temple of Deceit, and 2 Drowned Catacombs.

To replace them I added: 4 Dismal Backwaters, 4 Dimir Aqueducts, 2 Bloodfell Caves, and 1 Crumbling Necropolis. Stinks to lose all the nice lands that don't enter tapped, but dang do they cost some moolah.

Later: 1 Jwar Isle Refuge swapped out for 1 Crumbling Necropolis

Spell Changes: As mentioned: 2 Cyclonic Rift swapped out for 2 Void Snares.

3 Mind Twists swapped out for 3 Mind Shatters

Added Realm Seekers

TheTrueCyprien, 10 years ago

Got a foil Realm Seekers out of a Conspiracy draft. Seems to fit perfectly in the deck as we should have quite a lot of cards in our hand, asuming our overall strategy works. Not only that, but they can search Reliquary Tower so we can keep our potentially quite big hand or just to remove the hand size to summon Prime Speaker Zegana afterwards. I took out Species Gorger for that slot. While I like the Gorger for the fact he can evolve stuff over and over, it is kinda awkward and expensive to do so.

Another Overhaul

Destrian, 10 years ago

I've made some pretty significant changes to try and combat some issues. I often feel like I don't accomplish anything before I lose. There is now no red in the maindeck or sideboard. Major additions:

+2 Preordain

+1 Ponder

+1 Dig Through Time

+1 Misdirection

+1 Gifts Ungiven

I also reworked the land base to add more fetches.

I am interested in feedback. Feel free to suggest anything. Just don't be annoyed when I decline to add cards like Ancestral Recall and Time Walk. I am not interested in investing in Vintage-only cards at the moment.

HonoraryFugu

CyborgNate, 10 years ago

Thanks to the help of HonoraryFugu, I have cleaned this deck up a little bit. I swapped out 2 Steady Progresses for 2 Tezzeret's Gambits and removed 2 Null Champions and 1 Ikiral Outrider. I then added 3 Unsummons. Since this upset the mana balance a little bit, I swapped 2 Orzhov Guildgates for 2 Sejiri Refuges.

Thank you, HonoraryFugu!

Replaced Harvestguard Alseids with Ghostly Prison to stave off early attacks. I found that Harvestguard wasn't very useful for a defensive setup.

Enchantment/Artifact hate

HarroHunter, 10 years ago

I feel like I need more artifact/enchantment removal. I mean the deck is largely green so it's widely available. I went and played at my local commander league last week and the deck was working great except for one little thing... A guy playing a Karn deck with an Ensnaring Bridge that no one could get rid of. I had a beautiful field that survived two board wipes, but I couldn't do anything with it because of the Ensnaring Bridge. So I feel like I need some removal. Is this a good idea or am I over reacting? Also any suggestions as to, how to work it into the deck? All feed back is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have been struggle with the land base. I would like to add more lands but don't know what to cut out to make room for them.

1-0 vs Grixis delver

chillistills, 10 years ago

Faced a difficult thoughtsieze early on between manaleak and young pyromancer with no removal in hand. took the manaleak but regretted it on seeing a second pyro on the second thoughtseize. Luckly topdecked smother to deal with that.

First Actual Match

LittleBlueHero, 10 years ago

A friend of mine agreed to help me test this out. He was using my Balthor the Stout deck. His decks focus is to play weenies and use one of the many ways to make them unblockable before firebreathing for the win. Plenty of burn as an alternate finisher/crowd control.

Anafenza played out pretty much as it was supposed to. My creatures were always just a wee bit bigger than his and I could trade with less fear knowing I had ways to get them back. Bathe in Light eventually allowed for an alpha strike.

I really liked the protection this deck offered me, my buddy wasted 2 burn spells before finally connecting on any of my creatures and when he did they popped right back into play shortly after.

Modern League @ GG Week 7

thatsnotmylane, 10 years ago

Decided to stop playing burn for a week and play the ole dargon control deck. I was pretty happy with the performance and went 2-1. Round 1: 2-1 Win vs "G/W fuck you Liliana." My opponent had opened a total of 3 wilt-leaf lieges from MM15 packs and decided to gather up some loxodon smiters, voices, and thalias to make a green white good stuff deck. While its main focus is on the discard thing, its pretty well positioned against uwr control. Game 1 I was able to stabilize and land some dragons to cruise over his head for a win. Game 2 I remembered too late that electrolyze is NOT an amazing answer to 2 soliders of the pantheon and got overwhelmed. Game 3 was a grind I was able to win through the card advantage generated by Jace, a card I think its superb in this deck. Round 2: 2-1 Win vs JundVine. Game 1 I got overrun, there was no hope. This was the second matchup of the evening where I would have given an arm or a leg for some anger of the gods. Game 2 my opponent mulled to 5 which gave me a narrow window to weasle out a win through well timed relics and path to exiles. This deck is incredibly resilient so there really is no stabilizing. Game 3 I fully expected to lose but my opponent kept 1 lander with faithless looting and didn't find land #2 for something like 6 turns. I was able to get far enough ahead at that point that I could close things out quickly. Turns out if he had main phased the 1 satyr wayfinder in his hand I would have lost in terrific fashion off 2 milled vengevines and a castable grave crawler. It was a win I didn't deserve and the fact that my opponent had me dead off doing nothing for 6 turns is a testament to how absolutely terrifying his deck is. Round 3: 0-2 Loss to Burn. Technically my deck won this match since it was my buddy playing my burn deck ;). Game 1 I had 3 bolts to deal with all the creatures but it wasn't good enough for his 2 land draw. Game 2 I kept an extrealy risky 2 lander and didn't see a 3rd all game.
