So my group decided we'd like to challenge ourselves building budget decks. Basic lands don't count, and neither does the Commander. Everything else should be bought under €25. This is my Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind build, which cost me €24,75.

There's a couple of cards that synergize with Niv-Mizzet, and since they're cheap, they felt like auto-includes.

First off are Curiosity , Ophidian Eye , and Tandem Lookout . Attached to Niv-Mizzet they will let us draw our deck, and deal 1 damage to any target for each card drawn. Pretty good to finish someone off, control the board, or find the one spell that helps you get out of a sticky stuation. To prevent any risk of drawing the deck and losing because we attempt to draw into nothing, Elixir of Immortality is included. Because it shuffles itself back in with the rest of your graveyard, its effect is repeatable. Psychic Spiral is backup, with the potential to mill somebody out.

Other notable inclusions are Sigil of Sleep , Charisma , and Willbreaker . These will steal or bounce the biggest threats. Some deathtouch equipment and the trio of Enrage dinosaurs ( Needletooth Raptor , Silverclad Ferocidons , and Sun-Crowned Hunters ) will annoy our opponents, too.

In order to make the deck consistent, most other inclusions consist of pingers, who are also useful in killing small utility creatures on their own, and draw spells. Not only will the draw spells trigger our commander (and Niv-Mizzet, Parun , or Psychosis Crawler ), they will also help us dig for answers or new threats.
