Retribution of the Ancients is awesome with Mikaeus. Also, you can alternate undying and persist with Cauldron of Souls, since you get to choose the order in which things go on the stack, so you can have your creatures die with undying, then die with persist, then die with undying again, all in one turn.

smokestack I like the flavor of the card but I don't think it will work here. The goal of this deck is to combo out as fast as I can. That might go really well in a token deck lol. I can see prosh having lots of fun with this card

Altar of Dementia gives you another sac outlet as well as another win con. Puppeteer Clique plus that card and Mikaeus is an infinite loop that grants you a field of creatures with haste.

No Dark Ritual?

Also, I think Jeweled Amulet and Coalition Relic can replace Charcoal Diamond and Darksteel Ingot as far as speed is concerned as well as Grim Monolith instead of Commander's Sphere.

Some other cards that I think might work well here are Insidious Dreams, Reanimate, Necropotence, Contamination and Infernal Darkness.

looks good on sustain. Doesn't work for me because it's a combo deck

Toxic Deluge, Ancient Tomb and Sign in Blood?

Also, In Garruk's Wake, Dread Cacodemon and Necromantic Selection are terrible in a competetive environment. They cost too much and people tend to concentrate on combos more than creatures. If you really think you need to take creatures out, some spot removal might be better.

Yeah, perhaps it needs explaining to me, but there are a lot of combo staples missing, and a lot of downright bizarre card choices. What happens when someone has Counterspell? No hand hate, no Cavern of Souls. Very little to deal with Rest in Peace or Leyline of the Void

I absolutely love this deck but, dude, 28 lands? Even with Ring, Crypt, etc., that's at least 5 or 6 light.

SFCD with the amount of mana rocks and land fetches I haven't had a problem with this many lands. Most of this deck revolves around producing mana so I can get away with having less especially with the partial mulligan rule. It's all about the opening hand. I always just keep lands and rocks and throw everything else away for that first mulligan.

Most of your combos seem to focus around your general. How does the deck go if you lose access to him? I feel like you should also look into more removal. The deck is quite greedy (which isn't a bad thing), it just means you don't have many answers to faster/more controlling decks. I know yo ufeel like 28 lands in enough, but You should really be running more than that. You shouldn't have to rely on mulliganing just to get a playable hand each game.

A few recommendations for cards to put into the deck:

Cards you can probably take out:- Pith Driller

Cauldron of Souls is a card that you should own. It helps you kill Kokusho, the Evening Star etc. etc. an infinite number of times.

Arcbound Reclaimer (infinite counters for everyone/free artifact grave fetch)
Pentavus (lots of +1/+1s)
Workhorse (infinite mana)

A few cards that I can recommend are Merciless Executioner, Fleshbag Marauder, and Hex Parasite. Merciless Executioner and Fleshbag Marauder are just good cards in general that help thin the board early while you build up your board and they can do double duty once mikeaus, the unhallowed in on the battlefield. Hex Parasite can kill planeswalkers and reset the counters on your creatures but it also chains with Mikaeus and either the Executioner or Marauder. As long as you have the mana to keep activating its ability in response to the sacrifice trigger to remove the +1/+1 counter off the Executioner/Marauder, Mikaeus will keep bringing that sucker back until your opponents have no creatures left.

I stand corrected: the mana here is in fact fine. I jammed this on MTGO for about a dozen games and only got mana screwed once. To be fair, I mulled to three that game and felt pretty crappy. Also, this deck is wicked fun.:)

Also, if you would, could you explain how to go infinite with Gray Merchant/Kokusho and Deathmantle? Thanks!

Workhorse doesn't make sense here. Same goes with cards that remove +1/+1 counters. What am I missing?

Megalomania says... #24

I meant creatures that put -1/-1 counters on other creatures.

March 19, 2015 6:32 p.m.

enpc says... #25

-1/-1 counters cancel out +1/+1 counters. So it comes in with undying, gets a +1/+1 counter and then the -1/-1 coutner is placed on the creature and you can sac it again. And workhorse should give you infinite mana as undying triggers on death.
