Welcome to the 6th deck in my Extreme Budget series, Extreme Budget Raiders! This deck, with Zurgo Helmsmasher at the head, is a mostly voltron/semi-token Mardu deck, which either (preferably) goes all in on a buffed up Zurgo Helmsmasher with commander damage, or creates a small army of tokens to whittle down your opponent's life total.

How To Play This Deck

This deck starts off as an aggro voltron deck, ramping up to cast Zurgo Helmsmasher quickly, then smashing your opponent for 7 each turn with evasion such as Unquestioned Authority and for possibly even more with Dictate of the Twin Gods or other damage boosters. If your opponent manages to kill off Zurgo Helmsmasher or get enough blockers to stop you from doing this, start playing more creatures and try going wider and wider, getting past their blockers with any means necessary.

Card Types

To keep on playing through multiple phases of the game, this deck has multiple card types for different occasions: Ramp, Pump, Removal, Combat, Evasion, Doublers, and Lands.

• Ramp: These are the creatures and artifacts that give me extra mana, such as Boros Signet. Self-explanatory, really.

• Pump: All-around boosters that can affect just Zurgo Helmsmasher, such as Hero's Blade, or that might help your entire team, such as Chief of the Edge .

• Removal: Cheap cards such as Lightning Strike and Ultimate Price that provide simple but efficient removal. Yes, Lightning Bolt is too much.

• Combat: Either token-generators, such as Ponyback Brigade , or effects that greatly help my side in combat, such as Ankle Shanker

• Evasion: Cards that either give Zurgo Helmsmasher protection from removal, such as Favorable Destiny , or that gives him a way to get around blockers, such as Boldwyr Intimidator .

• Doublers: Basically more pump, but effects that double Zurgo Helmsmasher's damage, either through double strike such as Blood Mist, or through double damage, such as through Dictate of the Twin Gods.

• Lands: Do I really need to explain this part? The only nonbasics are in there for flavore reasons, as they are all Mardu Tarkir lands somehow.

Notable Cards

Bedlam + Invasion Plans : Insured kill with three attacks.

Boldwyr Intimidator : Either your opponent is deat lethal, or they have to block with their 7/7 winning creature.

Dictate of the Twin Gods + Wrecking Ogre : With some other pump or +1/+1 counters, this can one-shot an enemy planeswalker without them even noticing.

Holy Mantle: Easy evasion and powerful too.

Oathsworn Gaint: Why yes, I would like to blcok with my 10/7 Zurgo Helmsmasher.

Orzhov Advokist: A grouphug card to stop my foes from killing me, along with a pump every turn.

Raiders' Spoils: Repeatable card draw and minor pump.

Tenza, Godo's Maul: Powerful pump and evasion for the cheap price of and to equip.

Warmonger Hellkite: Creatures can't block in a single turn, and pumps your board as well.
