Vish Kal, Blood Arbiter Discussion

Hey, do what you want. I do not claim to have authority in this region of EDH.
Vish Kal, Blood Arbiter does have counters on it...

Looks like a great deck! I actually like the name as well. You really have everything you need but if you're looking for some OP combos i would suggest Prismatic Omen + Emeria, The Sky Ruin. Prismatic Omen has the added benefit of fixing your mana and acting as a second Urborg. An Idyllic Tutor would let you fetch Prismatic Omen or something else like your Necromancy. You could throw in Sylvan Scrying to fetch Emeria, Urborg or Cabal Coffers. You might also want to consider having some means to sacrifice your creatures such as Viscera Seer, Altar of Dementia, or especially Vish Kal, Blood Arbiter. Having a sacrifice outlet will allow to save your big threats from possible exile, and you can replay creatures to trigger their effects like Acidic Slime. This will also let you pull off insane infinite combos like Reveillark + Karmic Guide with Altar of Dementia as your sacrifice outlet. Throw in Eternal Witness or Clone Shell for good measure! LOL! Hope you enjoyed some of these ideas. GLHF!

You asked me to have a look at your deck, so here I am.
Your deck has 16 lands that effectively come into play tapped and only one of them is a Scry land (you should consider New Benalia, Temple of Malice, Temple of Silence and Temple of Triumph) which are far more relevant effects than gaining a life. Tapped lands tend to wreck your tempo, since you are set back a turn every turn, worse still if you miss a land drop. Which is why others have recommended replacing them.
What are the Angels doing in a vampire deck? Archangel of Tithes and Avacyn, Angel of Hope are cool cards but they don't really belong here, maybe run Ghostly Prison and Curse of Exhaustion if you want to limit your opponent(s) or stick with vampires like Chancellor of the Dross, Vish Kal, Blood Arbiter and Arvad the Cursed (who is better the more legends you run and this is Commander).
Charms and other modal spells, things like Rakdos Charm, Dawn Charm and Kolaghan's Command are useful because they give you options and are always worth considering and there are others outside of those I have named.
Generally I've never particularly liked life-gain as a plan, but rather as a plus side to what I'm already wanting to do. In any event I hope this is of some help and good luck with your deck.

Hello again, got a few more suggestions for you and I think I'll be repeating the last poster a bit because he offered solid advice.
First, your draw. The one time spells like Read the Bones, Damnable Pact, and Ambitions Cost are rather lackluster and reuseable draw would go a lot further. Consider Dark Prophecy, Greed, and Necropotence.
Last is just a few suggestions for higher cmc cards to drop. Your avg cmc should be as close to 3.0 as you can get and your deck is at 3.6 right now. I know .6 doesn't sound like much but to put it in perspective, that's about 30 mana cost that needs to go. Butcher of Malakir can be replaced w/ Grave Pact. Licia, Sanguine Tribune and Vish Kal, Blood Arbiter can be replaced with any lower cost creature like Dusk Legion Zealot (gotta keep the creature count at about 30). Kindred Dominance should probably be switched with Austere Command for flexibility. Oh and seriously, get Reconnaissance in here, you'll never consider dropping it.

I accuelly removed Butcher of Malakir as I found him often to be less impactful and strictly worse then other vamps in his price range, in addition his cost is often more then I care to pay for what amounts to a gravepact on a stick. I do in fact have a gravepact in the physical version I am running, and it is good fun sacking things to Yahenni, Undying Partisan ,Vish Kal, Blood Arbiter and Voldaren Pariah Flip. I was considering removing it for other things, but I think I will keep it for now, possibly even adding Dictate of Erebos, as I seem to play against a fair amount of wipes, and flashing that down could be rather ammusing....to me >=D
I do have a Mirror Entity around here somewhere and may have to give that a try. I had one in an old kithkin deck for just that purpose and it seems like a good fit here.
Hazoret's Monument I dont feel will pull its weight, as more often then not I am only going to get to use half of the card. The red sources are simply not large enough for it to warrent a spot. It would be nice if I was running Rakdos Vamps, but its mainly Orzhov, with a few red splashes for must haves, like Olivia Volderan and Stromkirk Captain. I was thinking of trying out
I like the mana suggestions, and I feel I need to get some more lands that dont come in tapped, to help get online ASAP and pumping out vamps. Thats probably my biggest complaint is all the down time waiting for lands to start working, putting me behind, and just honning in the correct number of them, along with better color managment. I will certianly be looking into picking up the suggested lands and finding room for them.

General Recommendations: Coat of Arms, Door of Destinies, Metallic Mimic, Vanquisher's Banner, Konda's Banner, Adaptive Automaton, Mavren Fein, Dusk Apostle, Indulgent Aristocrat, Sanctum Seeker, Profane Procession, Bloodline Keeper Flip, Necropolis Regent, Secure the Wastes, Martial Coup, Elspeth, Sun's Champion, Elspeth Tirel, Darien, King of Kjeldor, Heliod, God of the Sun, Ravos, Soultender, Vona, Butcher of Magan , Debtors' Knell, Merciless Eviction, Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts, Teysa, Orzhov Scion, Vish Kal, Blood Arbiter, Deathbringer Liege, Righteous War, Pillar of Origins, Cavern of Souls, Unclaimed Territory (meh), Intangible Virtue (meh), Kindred Boon (meh), Eldrazi Monument (meh).
Austere Command, because you can save your tokens.
Strionic Resonator mainly for your general, but it can work for anything that triggers.
I won't try to sell this to you that much, but Mirage Mirror or Mirror of the Forebears can have some trickery to it if you play it right. Can also feel bad if you don't have any creatures on the field.

A few ideas. Painful Truths is extremely efficient in tricolor for draw. I'd really look at Phyrexian Arena and Underworld Connections too for more consistent draw. I don't think the Pariah is all that great as you sac three to get them to sack three. They can kill it in response to the flip and now you're down 4 creatures for their 1 card. Many other vampires exist and I think could find much better in its slot. Elenda, the Dusk Rose, Vish Kal, Blood Arbiter, and Vona, Butcher of Magan are a few I'd strongly consider. Then if you run that many legendary vampires Hero's Blade looks really good especially sine markhov has haste. Just some ideas to take the edits a bit further.

Hey Darmanimon -
Thanks for the comment! Let me address some of your points that you made.
I totally agree with the lands. I just picked up some of the better ones like Tainted Field and Unclaimed Territory last week. I am not into dumping just tons of money at one time into the deck so it may just take me a while to get those.
As for the ramp, I have gone back and forth on this point a few times. I used to run 3ish mana rocks but over time I have really drastically reduced the mana curve on the deck to become a really fast aggro deck. I get that some decks try to get out their general as fast as possible, but Edgar for me is more of a secondary win condition, maybe dropping later to pump an already flooded field. The playgroup I play with has a good amount of field wipes so rushing Edgar into a large field is risky of an early field wipe so I tend to wait and use him when I can really get good effect out of him. Depending on how this new version, ~1 week old, runs in the coming weeks I may swap out to more ramp/mana rocks.
Thirdly, Vish Kal, Blood Arbiter is definitely a great card and I had him in my last version. I took him out just for a little experiment to reduce the mana curve even further but hes quite possibly coming back. Necropolis Regent is great too. I just need to pick one up as I don't have one right now and will try to fit her in there at some point. You might have missed it but I do already have Olivia Voldaren in there, shes great! Anointed Procession is such a broken card I love it, Just haven't bit the bullet yet and bought one.
Thanks again for the suggestions and I have for sure thought about some of these over time. I am just going to have to play this deck a few times to figure out if it needs some changes. I reduced most of the tribal passive lifegain life loss, such as Blood Artist but that sounds fun to play in something like Licia, Sanguine Tribune!
