Would I be able to use Vish Kal's effect on a dying creature?

Asked by Eldrazi13 3 years ago

Because Vish Kal, Blood Arbiter lets me sacrifice a creature to put +1/+1 counters on itself, would i be able to use it on a creature that was dealt lethal? More specifically, can it be used in response to sacrifice the other creature to increase Vish's power?

I'm a little unclear on exactly when you are wanting to do the sacrifice. Once a creature has been dealt lethal damage you will not be able to sacrifice it since you will not have priority before SBAs destroy the creature.

You can however sacrifice a creature if there is a spell on the stack that would deal lethal damage or blocks declared that would deal lethal damage. If you sacrifice a creature after declare blocks, but before damage is dealt, the sacrificed creature will not deal combat damage. Vish Kal, Blood Arbiter will have the counters and deal additional damage in this scenario.

Thanks, Gidgetimer. The second part of your answer was exactly what I meant to ask, I just didn't remember the exact ruling for it.
