Light of Sanction Discussion

Swap out your Light of Sanction for Mark of Asylum. It'll protect your creatures a little better, I think, since the opponent wouldn't be able to Lightning Bolt them away either.

Perhaps a playset of Icatian Crier or something like that, so you can throw out any dead cards.

Hello! I have an Avacyn deck - Judgment Day: Avacyn the Purifier EDH | *PRIMER*, you may have seen it - and I might be able to help you a bit :)

I find that 41 lands is far too high for a deck like this. Especially with your CMC hovering around 3.5, I generally wouldn't run more than 37 in a deck like this. I'd cut the ETB tapped ones first.

I built my deck to use her as a Voltron commander so obviously our strategies are different, but I feel like one of your major issues in this deck will be your own flip killing your creatures. Have you considered Mark of Asylum and Light of Sanction and Rune-Tail's Essence to protect your own board?

Command Beacon seems like something to add, but I'd remove Boros Keyrune (pretty inconsequential in many situations). Have you considered Grafted Exoskeleton to make Avacyn into a OHKO?

I would not run Manalith (also, what's up with Darksteel Relic?).

Either way, happy deckbuilding! I'd love to hear your thoughts on my list as well if you have a few moments.

KeelHaul10 Hey thanks for the suggestion, I actually chose to include Rune-Tail, Kitsune Ascendant / Rune-Tail's Essence over Mark of Asylum/Light of Sanction purely because he is tutorable by both Thalia's Lancers and Recruiter of the Guard. Otherwise I'd have to choose it as I searched with Enlightened Tutor which is tough vs. Sneak Attack.

The name of the deck is just a play on the name Archangel Avacyn  Flip, it's not super clever but it is the first tHong I thought of. A - rch - angel, A - va - cyn. Bit of a stretch but it works. Thanks again for commenting.

I love a good w/r control, but the purifier  Flipis your commander so Im surprised you're not running Light of Sanction

Also, are you referencing Hot Fuzz with that title? Because it says angle as in geometry, not angels as in holy warriors.

I like this, and the page formatting is neat too. But if you wanted to protect your stuff from avacyn, why not Light of Sanction? I'd suggest cutting something like O-Naginata

Alright, made many of the changes recommended.

Added Swiftfoot Boots, Reya Dawnbringer, Urza's Incubator, Captain's Claws, Gideon, Ally of Zendikar, and Fellwar Stone

Removed Aetherflux Reservoir, Zada, Hedron Grinder, Cloudshift, Nahiri, the Lithomancer, and Weapons Trainer

Swapped Earthquake with Chandra's Ignition.

Keeping Light of Sanction in, using it to keep my creatures from Archangel Avacyn  Flip's flip AOE.

I know you mentioned that trying to do two tribes may be a mistake, why would that be? If there is a direction you think I should take this deck, let me know! I'm super open to ideas and suggestions.

Thanks for the help!

Cool deck. I've always liked Crypt Rats, and was looking for decks that use it. Powerstone Minefield and Caltrops might be interesting. Powerstone Minefield I've loved for years, but I've never found a way to work it into a deck.

Also fun are cards that protect your creatures like Light of Sanction, Mark of Asylum and (maybe) Lashknife Barrier.

The deck right now is perfectly servicable as a R/W midrange archetype, but I get the impression it doesn't really know what it wants to be yet. In adding cards like Boros Reckoner and Spitemare, you've created more payoff when Avacyn transforms from white to red, but those guys seem rather lackluster when you have Light of Sanction or Mark of Asylum on the battlefield. I'd either go further into the "protect all my guys from global damage"-theme and remove the punisher cards or alternatively you could maybe embrace the fact that your creatures will get damaged, in which case you'd want to cut cards like Repercussion. As it is, I feel there are a couple of boardstates where the deck might be it's own worst enemy. Either way, you could use some more non-angel creatures you can sacrifice at will or alternatively some more reliable token producers, possibly in the manabase (Kjeldoran Outpost and Kher Keep seem like good options to me).

There are a couple of cards I don't really see much use for regardless of the theme of the deck. Those include Braid of Fire and Flickerform. I can't see any mana sinks to use the mana provided by Braid of Fire during upkeep. Keep in mind that mana pools empty between turn phases. While I can guess that Flickerform is supposed to be used as a reset button for Avacyn, I'd wager that it's not necessary to flip her back this often. Maybe just play a simple instant speed flicker effect or two if you feel it's important for the deck strategy.

Since most of your creatures have flying and likely won't lose in 1v1 combat, I'd maybe think about playing some sweepers that only hit grounded creatures like Molten Disaster or Fault Line.

Personally, I recommend cutting Boros Reckoner and it's ilk and going for some more damage prevention. That'd suggest the following cards, specifically:
