Pillow Fort Bleed - Protecting my self from my own mass damage

Commander Deck Help forum

Posted on Dec. 10, 2019, 7 p.m. by B.A.N.E.

I'm interested in creating a R/W/B bleed deck and need a little advice regarding the right ratio of cards.

Here's the idea. Using Spellshock , Pyrostatic Pillar , Earthquake , Inferno and similar cards paired with Furnace of Rath and Repercussion I'm looking to deal massive damage across the board.

To protect my self I've looked at Solitary Confinement and Glacial Chasm to protect my self from all sources and Personal Sanctuary to protect myself from myself.

What proportion of protection / pillow fort cards should I keep to damage? Do you have any other suggestions for this?

Pariah and Pariah's Shield are both decent cards (especially when equipped on a Stuffy Doll ).

As for card counts, even with this being a strong theme in the deck, I would say to try and limit the whole package to 14-16 cards. And the higher the count, the more draw you need to put in to offset this.

I'm guessing Oros, the Avenger is your commander?

The Wanderer can help you take no damage, especially when paired with Command the Dreadhorde .

enpc great recommendations and Oros is the commander. I began to think about running Pariah and Pariah's Shield with a couple indestructible creatures. Of course then I wanted to shroud and hexproof stuff and then the package gets too large.

ScionsStillLive great cards. Thank you! If I'm running more or less creatureless is there a way to protect the planeswalker?

This is tricky - I like it!

There are a few decent prevention effects among these: Scryfall, the best for you probably being Light of Sanction .

Though you've likely tackled this angle fairly well... The best repeatable ones on the list are Story Circle , Circle of Protection: Red / Rune of Protection: Red - and the slightly spicier Shieldmage Advocate , Protective Sphere / Righteous Aura .

Urza's Armor is decent if you're using things like Pyrohemia and is useful to a degree vs Spellshock or Pyrostatic Pillar (also have you got Eidolon of the Great Revel ?) Similarly the ult of Ajani Steadfast seems good.

Gideon's Sacrifice could redirect damage to a thing you don't like as much, however I don't recommend it too much.

Bolt Bend is a GREAT spell that is very flexible, such as changing the target planeswalker from an opponent's Spark Harvest to, let's say, their Kenrith, the Returned King .

Kaya's Ghostform can give your permanent an extra life.

(I was looking at War of the Spark cards when doing this since I don't feel like looking into suggestions from other sets right now).

Please post your decklist here when you finish making it.

@B.A.N.E.'s original post.

Those cards just stop damage. What about loss of life. You should consider Platinum Emperion and Platinum Angel

If you're running enough tutors run Karma + Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth . It's like Manabarbs on crack. Definitely use The Wanderer to reduce the massive amounts of damage dealt to you. Also use Exquisite Blood and Sun Droplet to regain a lot of the life you'll be losing. Thieving Amalgam also works as an amazing damage sponge with it's plentiful chump blockers and life gain potential.

BS-T - you know I had most of those cards on my list and cut them before my last refinement. I don't know why I didn't put Circle of Protection: Red or Story Circle in there!

ScionsStillLive - much appreciated

Deck list is here: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/burn-everyone-bwr-pillow-fort-bleed/

I've been play testing it for a week. In the description I have some notes and half the cards I've been considering.

griffstick - I was afraid I would kill Platinum Emperion if using Death Pits of Rath or that it would prevent me from using Necropotence

StopShot - Karma and Blanket of Night was my combo but I dropped it because I was trying to simplify the deck. I might put it back in. Actually I think I should.

Going creatureless is always cool. But I really feel like Satyr Firedancer is great with repercussion and your damage doublers.

Palisade Giant and Protector of the Crown with an equipment that gives them indestructible will protect you from damage and make it pretty hard to kill you.

Pestilence and/or Pyrohemia are both good options for this strat.

Depending on how many creatures you end up running and your meta, Smoke can be amazing.

If you're looking for ideas in these colors I'd look up Queen Marchesa lists. They're usually pillowfort, lots of wraths, and stax(ish).

These are all good suggestions. Thank you!

Last_Laugh I've been runnong Pestilence but I'm having a little bit of a hard time Mana wise. I might be able to ding for three or four but rarely above that because of the white and red Mana I have. Do you have a work around for this? Blanket of Night , Black Market , Smothering Tithe or something else?

Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth ? Last Laugh can also snowball similarly to the way Massacre Girl does to take out bigger and bigger butts. It needs to be paired with protection from black or indestructible creatures though (granted so does Pestilence).

I've had 1 point of Pestilence damage snowball up to 27 damage to everything and everyone.

Urza's Armor and Sphere of Grace are both good at protecting you from Pestilence damage. As someone else pointed out, I highly suggest Pariah

Among the other suggestions here I'm adding Deadly Tempest . It provides a board wipe and a loss of life.

Dire Fleet Ravager and similar cards seem promising as well.
