So my 8 year old, Eevee, has been watching us play magic for awhile now, and she came to me the other day and told me she wanted a deck to play, too! She said she wanted a unicorn deck, so of course I grabbed Lathiel, the Bounteous Dawn. Not only is it a unicorn, but it's straight forward to gain life and +1/+1 counters, and we also added in pegasus. She loves them as well and you can't go wrong with flying. Now, with this being her first deck, we avoided any Planeswalkers, comboing, and deck searching. With the way all the cards work together, she can pretty much just cast one and it will either gain life, +1/+1 something, or both. This also teaches her the difference it makes based on what to cast before the other. Keep it simple and straight forward.

With the way Lathiel works our first focus is life gain, so we have Alhammarret's Archive, Beacon of Immortality, the Wardens, Boon Reflection, Bond of Discipline as well as lands like Kabira Crossroads, Radiant Fountain, and Graypelt Refuge. Other cards that work with both life gain and counters, we have creatures with lifelink, Sunbond, Cleric Class, Nykthos Paragon, Light of Promise, Conclave Mentor, and Sunscorched Regent. As for the +1/+1 counters, we have Branching Evolution, Hardened Scales, Cathars' Crusade, Doubling Season, Mirari's Wake, Emiel the Blessed, and Gavony Township.

Now a lot of this stuff isn't very cheap to cast, so Mirari's Wake, Avacyn's Pilgrim, Opaline Unicorn, and the Enchantresses help with both draw and adding mana. For some defense, not only could she have her army of Pegasus tokens, but we also have Aura Shards and Privileged Position, as well as some other stuff like Oblivion Ring, Faith's Fetters, and Swords to Plowshares.

She's played her deck a few times already, and it can get nasty fast! The next thing you know she's already been gaining life, creatures with so many counters, and even if you can get rid of something she has on the field, it's hard to pick when they all have the same idea and work off of each other so well.

I warn you though, get ready for a lot of calculating both life gain and counters!
