Wurms, a classic Magic creature type. When my childhood friend gave me their old binder of cards, the two that really caught my eye were Craw Wurm and Scaled Wurm. Huge power, huge casting costs. I dreamed of being able to put these incredible monsters on the table.

This commander deck seeks to reinvigorate that childhood love. While Craw and Scaled have been completely powercrept at this point, they sure do have a lot of fun friends who are more than viable in the format. We're running 13 wurms including the likes of Bookwurm, Pelakka Wurm and Wurmcoil Engine, all led by the queen of wurms herself, Grothama, All-Devouring.

Grothama is an interesting card. She's certainly a threat, but she's also a little bit group huggy, letting anyone draw cards from killing her. But when equipped with a Darksteel Plate or Mithril Coat, she just becomes a very cheap and very scary 10/8 beater.

But the real trick is to pair her up with Vigor. If you can make Grothama indestructible, Vigor allows her and every creature of yours that fights her to get exponentially bigger every turn (which stacks even bigger with Unnatural Growth on the table.

This combo is sick, but it takes a decent amount of cards and a lot of mana to produce consistently. That's what the rest of the deck is for. Guardian Project, Tribute to the World Tree, Garruk's Uprising and Beast Whisperer all draw cards with every big wurm that joins the battle. And Defiler of Vigor, Gwenna, Eyes of Gaea, Traverse the Outlands and Topiary Stomper all help to ramp up to the biggest threats.

At the end of the day, the strategy isn't that much different from all those years ago: Bring out the baddest dudes possible and let them completely overrun the opponents. Simple, nostalgic and still damn effective.
