Death-Greeter's Champion

Creature — Human Warrior

Dash (You may cast this spell for its dash cost. If you do, it gains haste, and it's returned from the battlefield to its owner's hand at the beginning of the next end step.)

Backup 1 (When this creature enters the battlefield, put a +1/+1 counter on target creature. If that's another creature, it gains the following abilities until end of turn.)

Double strike

OUT: Agitator Ant, Orzhov Advokist, Death-Greeter's Champion, Doomskar Warrior

IN: Shalai, Voice of Plenty, Bristly Bill, Spine Sower, Railway Brawler, Rhythm of the Wild

The next round of Improvements. While I like the cards like the Agitator Ant and Orzhov Advokist, they potentially give my opponents a leg up later in the game. Replacing them with things that help my board more is generally better.

Next up will be helping the land base out a little bit more.

To keep Goro-Goro and Satoru kicking, I think it could be helpful to get a few more counterspell and protection effects in there. Once you start connecting with those fast & evasive bodies, they tend to draw a target on their back. Stubborn Denial can be a fairly cheap option, since you should have some 5/5 dragon tokens around. Some other budget options could be Miscast, Counterspell, and Negate. From having played G-G&S, I think having some more instant speed interaction/protection will be helpful to keep your board intact, and temper the glass cannon to be a bit more durable.

On the topic of interaction and removal, I'd recommend adding in Feed the Swarm, since Grixis is pretty limited for options in terms of enchantment removal.

Death-Greeter's Champion and Berserkers' Onslaught might be worth a look. With how G-G&S are worded, if a creature that ETB'd that turn and connected with Double Strike, they will then get an additional trigger and make an additional Dragon Spirit token.

Lastly, I'd recommend checking out Kolaghan, the Storm's Fury since it has pseudo-Haste because of Dash, and can act as an antheming buff for all your creatures. She can be a finisher option if you have some dragons out there.

Goro-Goro and Satoru have been a lot of fun to play. If you want to change around your creature base a bit, I'd recommend checking out:

  • Death-Greeter's Champion - She can be a repeatable means of granting double strike to one of your smaller & fast creatures. Due to the wording on G-G&S, combat damage from double strike will create 2 Dragon Spirit tokens.

  • Flamewake Phoenix - Another fast & evasive body. It has a decent chance of being re-cast with its Ferocious ability, due to your likelihood of making Dragon tokens from G-G&S. You have about 6-7 creatures with power 4 or greater in the 99, and a 3 more with variable power (Shivan Devastator, Sprite Dragon, & Firkraag).

  • Archwing Dragon - Pseudo-Dash on a bigger body.

  • Grim Hireling - Can help round out your Treasure production with the Goldspan and Professional Face-Breaker you already have in the 99.

A couple non-creature spells that could be worth a look:

  • Breath of Fury - It has potential as a combo piece with G-G&S to (potentially) create infinite combat steps. This Commander Spellbook page will explain the steps of how the combo works. This can work with a decent core of cards already in your 99 (Loyal Apprentice, Daring Piracy, Urabrask's Forge, basically any creature with Haste).

  • Reconnaissance Mission - G-G&S aims to connect with combat damage, so this will be right at home in the 99. The Cycling is also handy so it doesn't sit in your hand if you don't really need it.

I hope these suggestions were helpful. Best of luck with the deck, I hope you have fun with it.

In case you ever want to change your ratio of non-Ninja, but still evasive creatures, I'd recommend some of the following:

  • Death-Greeter's Champion - It's combo of Dash & Backup will give you a repeated means of granting another one of your creatures double strike. Given how Goro-Goro and Satoru are worded, any combat damage from double strike will create 2 Dragon Spirit tokens.

  • Flamewake Phoenix - Evasive & fast body. Has a decent likelihood of being recurred with its Ferocious ability, given that the deck makes the 5/5 spirit dragon tokens.

  • Archwing Dragon - Has pseudo-Dash, but is a bigger body fast/evasive that can be used for more substantial hits.

  • Kolaghan, the Storm's Fury - Another Dasher, but can serve as an excellent anthem/overrun buff since this deck wants to make all kinds of Dragon tokens. Will be helpful, especially since most creatures in Ninjutsu decks tend to be on the smaller side.

I hope these suggestions are helpful, these are cards I've been running in my G-G&S deck to some fun success. Best of luck with your brew!

I've been brewing and playing Goro-Goro and Satoru recently, they're a lot of fun. Have you had a chance to play this deck irl yet, or still play testing?

I think you're pretty light on the mana department, between a low land count and not much ramp beyond Sol Ring and Ragavan. I get that a lot of your creatures are small and fast, but you could probably cut some to open up some slots for land and ramp.

Aside from that, I'd recommend checking out some of the following creatures with Dash, or "pseudo-Dash":

  • Death-Greeter's Champion - The Backup 1 will grant another creature Double Strike. Especially with the many small, fast, & evasive creatures you currently have in the list, this could be gas. With the way G-G&S is worded, combat damage from Double Strike will net you 2 Dragon Spirit tokens.

  • Shatterskull Charger - Just never pay the Kicker cost lol.

  • Archwing Dragon - Doesn't have Dash, but it's a beefier body that can get replayed.

  • Flamerush Rider - Repeatable means of making a hasty token copy of something on your board.

  • Kolaghan, the Storm's Fury - G-G&S want to crank out Dragon Spirit tokens, & Kolaghan anthems up your team based on the number of attacking dragons you control.

Some other stuff that can work in the deck:

  • Stubborn Denial - The Ferocious clause should be fairly easy to pull of in a deck that is pumping out Dragon Spirit tokens.

  • Flamewake Phoenix - Self-recurring hasty & evasive body as long as you're hitting that Ferocious clause.

  • Cursed Mirror - ETBs as a copy of any creature around the battlefield, and has Haste on top of that. Excellent mana rock for this deck.

I hope these suggestions are helpful. Best of luck with your brewing.

I only just realized how busted the Backup mechanic is with Rionya, Fire Dancer. Definitely will have to consider Death-Greeter's Champion and Voldaren Thrillseeker for my Rionya list...that is if she survives the strong urge I am having to swap that deck over to Urabrask.
