With Dark Ascension spoilers decided UGr would be best for the deck, because Huntmaster of the Fells Flip is a power house.
Awaiting rest of the spoilers though, hoping for some good UG spells..

Major overhauls after looking around at another deck(credit:players-servants). Mostly mana acceleration changes and I moved Leyline of the Void to the still incomplete sideboard.

Got my Consecrated Sphinx and the Undead Alchemist. Changed the sideboard a lot to include a bunch of flexible creatures such as the Phyrexian Metamorph and the 2 Phantasmal Image in case I come up against a creature I don't have an answer to (like Thrun, the Last Troll). With a good draw it's very realistic to expect a turn 7 win. Not super fast, but a pretty good pace, especially for blue-black.

I played this deck again with more cards still missing alot of the cards that this deck will have in it. But it is alot more effective. I am finding this deck lacks creatures and think I need to add more board wipes. First game I played was against my other commander deck. This game last 2 hours before I finally lost.

Please let me know if you think this deck is a viable option in Standard. Thanks!
Deck Update
Solomon, 13 years ago
Hello Everyone!
Click here to jump to this week's discussion.
Thank you so very much for your wonderful suggestions! For this week's update, I carefully went through all of the comments posted under this topic as of Jan. 21, 2012.
I am very pleased with the advice given to me so far, offered early on in the development of this deck. Without further ado, I would like to explain the changes incorporated into the creation of the third revision.
Thank you mozerdozer and stonethorn for your amazing recommendation of Nameless Inversion! As soon as I spotted the card, I looked it up, and without hesitation, I decided to include it in this week's early update! Thank you also for your wonderful combo suggestion. I have decided to include my interpretation of the ingenious implementation under this week's Card of the Week section!
Thank you Epochalyptik for your wonderful recommendation of Dark Ritual! I had previously thought of using the mana-acceleration instant, but I wasn't reminded of the true usefulness of the card until you recommended it! I have decided to replace Blood Pet with two copies of Dark Ritual. Thank you again for your input!
I reconsidered switching out Noxious Ghoul for Skinrender, Moan of the Unhallowed, or Endless Ranks of the Undead, but decided against it when I realized there remained only six other sources of removal in the deck (from eight in the first revision). Taking out Noxious Ghoul would render my main form of late-game removal extinct. Thus, I have decided to leave the creature in the deck's third revision.
Following this post are my comments for this week's Card of the Week. Again, thanks for all of the thoughtful comments! I thank you for all of your valuable suggestions. As I am still relatively new to Magic the Gathering, I would indeed greatly appreciate any suggestions and/or constructive criticism that you may have to offer.
Nameless Inversion:
One of the more powerful tribal instants of Lorwyn, this card was only recently brought to my attention by your wonderful suggestions. Thanks for the great recommendation, mozerdozer and stonethorn! Thus, with the update this week comes my interpretation of this incredible two-drop. My choice of this week is Nameless Inversion.
With its +3/-3 ability, the instant replaces one copy of Victim of Night, in accordance with Epochalyptik's helpful suggestion of implementing 'Toughness Modifier' removal in place of 'Destroy' spells. The deck implements one copy of Nameless Inversion, and one copy is all you need!
This ingenious combo came to my knowledge as a result of your valuable advice and recommendations. With Lord of the Undead or Unholy Grotto in play, you can make use of the terrifying removal tool again and again! Not much else can prove more annoying than this combination of effects; as you repeatedly exploit this instrument of destruction, you'll be giving your opponent a psychological beating.
To conclude briefly, the comments recommending Nameless Inversion have been dead on. As a new introduction to the deck, let's give this two-drop a warm welcome!

Just considering what to do with this thing. There are a lot of possible directions to go. Was thinking straight aggro/lifegain game 1, switching to a more controlly version with SB. With these 3 colors you have as much removal as you want, so there is a lot that can be put in there. Debating how much focus to put on tokens, because as it sits, which may change as my mood changes, there are at least 4 token generators, 1 of those humans, which are great in here for the sac choices. Feel free to point out or feed me any of your wisdom, but don't be mad at me for ignoring you, as it's my deck. ALL THOUGHTS APPRECIATED.fnm

Friday Night Magic

Round 1(UB control): First game went well, my opponent said Tempered Steel is actually his worst match up. I'm inclined to believe him. I hit all of the drops at the right time. Turn three Tempered Steel. The game was mine. Second game. Sideboarded in some Nihil Spellbombs to deal with Snapcaster Mages and tossed in some Shrine of Loyal Legions. The Nihil Spellbomb actually won me the game, due to it nullifying one of his Negates on my Tempered Steel. The shrine got Mana Leaked.
Round 2(Red Deck Wins): I was excited for this match up. It was a VERY close game and really just came down to who drew the best opening hand. Game one started of my my Memnite and Glint Hawk. Swung for three and then found an Arc Trail(I hate that card). He followed up with a Shrine of Burning Rage. I laid down a Tempered Steel and then waded through a plethora of burn spells for the win. I won with one life left. Sideboarding! boarded out a Dismember for my fourth Oblivion Ring(to deal with shrines). Boarded in one Shrine of Loyal Legions and a playset of Phyrexian Revokers (to deal with shrines, I hate those things). Game Two: I started off with a mulligan, nothing notable except a Tempered Steel in hand. I laid down some land and played a Phyrexian Revoker following his playing of a shrine. My Phyrexian Revoker found a Gut Shot. My opponent laid down a SECOND Shrine of Burning Rage. I cracked a Buried Ruin for my Phyrexian Revoker. I took a face full of burn which ratcheted the Shrine of Burning Rages up to about 10 a piece. Phyrexian Revoker was plaid and i mopped up for a 2-0 win.
Round 3(Mono-white aggro a la U/W Humans (Craig Wescoe) minus the blue): Both of us had been undefeated up until this point, so we were very excited for this matchup. Game one: My opponent had never played against a Tempered Steel before so I came out of the gates sprinting. I played 3 Memnites and a Glint Hawk by turn 2 and was swinging for the flying damage. An Etched Champion acted as a wall while I beat down with fliers. The game was tough, but i won(despite nearly killing myself with a Dismember). Sideboarding! Sided out the Dismember, with an Oblivion Ring to fill it's place. Also dropped two vault skirges and some Signal Pests for a few Phyrexian Revokers and Shrine of Loyal Legions. Game Two! Played out almost the same as game one, he played some large beaters, I rationed my removal spells, and then I killed him in a drawn out war of attrition through flying. Best match I played that night, it was the most difficult AND the most satisfying.
Final four(UB control featuring Liliana of the Veil): Not much to be said about this one. He had more expensive cards than I and he was better at playing control than I was at playing aggro. Game one was won through a combo of Tempered Steel and Inkmoth Nexus. First game I won with poison. Sideboarding! Dropped some Signal Pests for Shrine of Loyal Legions and Phyrexian Revokers. Game two: I got him down to one life, and then he played Consecrated Sphinx and a Grave Titan. I couldn't touch him. Game three: nothing notable besides my land being one Plains, one Inkmoth Nexus and two Buried Ruin. My hand was two Tempered Steels. Take a look at that casting cost. I conceded after he cracked a Black Sun's Zenith for three.
Final thoughts about sideboard: Shrine of Loyal Legions: worst card of the whole night. I was never excited to draw one, and then never EVER resolved and actually did anything. I'm considering dropping the whole playset from my sideboard in favor of a playset of Celestial Purges.
Dismember: it's good, but without the Mox Opals to counteract the loss of life, they do more damage than help.
Oblivion Ring: it's my catch all, for EVERYTHING, considering main boarding a fourth.
Phyrexian Revoker: he was the star of the night. I side boarded him in almost every match and he was my answer to all kinds of pesky problems. He can also act as a beater or a chump blocker if necessary. I'm considering main boarding one or two.

mana screwed? no way!
narutozach, 13 years ago
even though i am only testing this deck with 2 duel lands ( one Copperline Gorge and Rootbound Crag be cause those are the only 2 that i own right now, and thats probably how it will be when i eventually take it to an FNM.) it is still functioning without getting mana screwed.!

FNM
aloehart199, 13 years ago
the deck did HORRIBLY at fnm. now i don't know if that was all bad luck because the matches i lost i was mana screwed several turns. matches i won i had mana. Either way it did horribly. I'm putting this deck on hiatus until dark ascension. I'm switching to traitor run for now. That deck did amazingly well in casual play. i made changes to it as well that i need to post.
Tournament: FNM
Populous, 13 years ago
Placed: 3rd out of 10
2-1 vs G/W Aggro:
Overall, this match was extremely easy. I made way to many misplays to have won the match. However, I simply controlled the board till I stalled him and got enough beaters on the ground to win. Game 2, was a loss but, I conceded the game because we were approaching time limit and we had both stalled. I had good board position but I still saw the game dragging on and I wanted to win straight up instead of running out of time. Game 3, easy. I didn't make to many misplays, and controlled the game till the very end.
2-0 vs Mono White Humans:
This was against a very inexperienced player and I feel no need to break this down.
1-2 vs U/G/R Wolf Run
This match up, even though it was a loss, was the most fun of the three. Each game coming down to just a few life points on either side. Game 1, I had to basically play with my hand on the board (surgicals and probes), but I managed to counter at the right times and keep enough board presence to win out a back and forth game. Chandra's Phoenix was the MVP of that game, along with a Snapcaster Mage to Ponder(lolz). Game 2, I stalled around turn 7-8. I drew into 5 straight lands and that cost me the game, for the most part. My opponent was at 4 life for around 4 turns which made the loss very disappointing. Game 3, was very similar however, no mana problems, but Thrun made it on the field and it was a foot race in which I lost. Had I survived 1 more turn, I would have won. He dropped a Kessig Wolf Run on his final turn. He was at 11 life, I was at 8 life with Snapcaster Mage and Devil's Play in hand and a Brimstone Volley in the GY. He swung for 9 trampling, and all I had was snapcaster to block 1 and took the 8 for the loss.
Overview:
Overall, I am very satisfied with this decks first appearance. I see now I need to bring in an Inferno Titan MB, simply because most of my games last a very long time and I have no threats late game. I made a good call bringing Devil's Play into my SB last minute. It helped me win a couple games that I otherwise I would have lost. I've made some changes to the deck that I will be trying out at another tournament tomorrow night. Updates for it will be up as soon I can.

consistency

this deck has been so consistent that i can basically guess my hand before i get it!! i love that.
4th place FNM
037, 13 years ago
I came in 4th place tonight. The stars of my deck ended up being Fiend Hunter and Champion of the Parish. Thankfully, Grand Abolisher also made timely appearances that helped while playing against a Birthing Pod and Spellskite deck. He still beat me, but I held up better than other folks tonight.
I plan to tweak it more this week.

Noloic, 13 years ago
I recently revised a little the deck. Planar Portal,Thought Reflection and Consecrated Sphinx are being considered and some doubts appeared about some cards. I'm seriously thinking on making Basilisk Collar/Wurmcoil Engine,Denying Wind,Eternal Dominion and Blatant Thievery Maindeck. I'll wait for advices. For that reason,i marked the really strong/useful cards in there as FOIL (there are some problems about the visualisation right now...). Some of the others aren't that essential (Treasure Trove,Terramorphic Expanse and Evolving Wilds,Reverberate (because of Reiterate),Reality Strobe and so on).
I'll let you know if any modifies will be made here.

shadowspanther, 13 years ago
diregraf captain is a 2/2 death touch for 1bu that gives other zombies +1/+1 and whenever another zombie dies target player loses 1 life. uncommon coming out in dark ascension. walking corpse is a proxy for it until then.
Testing
YoImCXD, 13 years ago
I played a few of my friends' competitive decks. Here are the results. Bantpod- Seemed even, went 2-2. The second game I lost was my inability to find a wincon after venser ult. Not worried about it. Mono-B Infect- Grixis seems superior, 2-1, lost a game off a hand I probably should have mulliganed. Would consider some sb cards because doomblade is a dud for the most part here. Mono Red- 3-0, the only real threat was koth, but devil's play works to remove him from the equation. Unless it hits me for 20 by turn 4, I'm going to win. RIP goblin guide ;) Wolf Run- 0-3, Thrun is an issue, tapping 6 to wipe him with bsz is a pain in the ass. It really shows the need for Lilly. Maybs another tribute to hunger in the board. Will develop SB as the next standard FNM comes closer.
Hmm...
Ballin_Like_Stalin, 13 years ago
I think Grimgrin would be an interesting one of. I've always wanted to find a way to abuse him, and dropping him turn three after a turn two Heartless Summoning followed by a turn four Grave Titan sounds lovely, not to mention the machine gun combo with Havengul Lich and Perilous Myr. Thoughts? Anyone? Bueller?
G/W Humans
Vorsanss, 13 years ago
got alot of transforming humans for green and white and a few token producers. i was hoping to get the +1/+1 for tokens enchantment but never found one. its mana curve is mid range at 3ish let me know what you would change. I also have a few cards in the side board so look at those too.

The deck has been set to public now. Problem is the deck's graphs aren't set right. Showing no red mana sources at all. edit: okay now that I've added a red spell its displaying the red mana >.>
