Kwain, the Godfather - Casual EDH - Group Hug Deck

Commander / EDH Budget Casual Group Hug WU (Azorius)

ToreBach

Heyoo everybody! My name ToreBach

This is a fun little "group hug" deck that revolves around gaining trust, while always asserting dominance. In many ways it's like any other group hug deck, except it doesn't win off combos, but slowly and steadily chinks your opponents down pitting them in a corner, which in you make them fight for their lives >:)

I tried giving the deck a more- let's say; "mafia"-feel to it. That means that you'll be trying to first gain their trust and have everyone like you, be generous in the early game!! give presents and keep making them like you until they have almost build up a debt to you (try and make agreements in the political aspect of the game, so they don't just break a deal!)

Alright, so with that said, you wanna win by pitting your opponents up against each other and helping them kill each other faster while building a defense yourself. Which is what these weirdly named categories are for!! So without further a due, let's get right into those!

First we'll have talk a bit about the commander Kwain, Itinerant Meddler, who I believe is actually on of the more fun from the Legends set that was recently released. Because I have a 2-mana () commander that (which is almost guaranteed to get out immediately) I decided to only go 30 lands. Because if you get out the Godfather you'll draw into every land you need pretty much, whilst still making your opponents like you more and more, as he gets to untap. So from the get go, you should be trying to make friends with the first player who get's ahead by using his ability on their turn rather than on the other players', whilst still keeping an eye out for threats that will annoy the others too much.

Now the Categories:

A favor? For a favor of course!

This category is mainly used whenever someone's in a pinch. You'll want to use these cards for really important scenarios that'll change the game, and most likely grant you a big favor from the other players. I like to think that I only wanna use these cards for myself if it means I straight up lose the game, so don't go using that AEtherspouts on yourself.

Bodyguards

These guys are all you need to be able to survive different scenarios. You wan't to start getting most of this out by the time people are getting impatient and bloodthirsty. You know that we can only get that far with sitting by on the sidelines scheming and slowly building up our kingdom of connections and deals. SO when people start to notice that you have a really nice spot in the game? That's probably the time you'd want to have these up and running. And A little sidenote; Livio, Oathsworn Sentinel is a tool that you can use for political reasons as well, don't be scared to save a creature if it means your enemies kill each other faster!!

Did you forget who I am?

Now. Sometimes you'll want to assert some of that dominance of yours, you might be a 1/3 2-drop, but you still pack a punch. Which is why I included these cards as a sort of "speed-up" to the game state or just a plain finisher (I'm talking about you Soul of Eternity!!).

Now... The card [Oblivion Stone] is a crazy little tool in this deck, ESPECIALLY afer you setup your defenses. Most people see that thing and then all agrees on just going for you, though in your case, you can use this to make even more deals that speed up that massacre! Just tell people that they'll owe you something or someone if you put a fate counter onto their stuff. Take your time with this one, and remember to make your opponents feel safe, tell them "Don't worry I'm not gonna pop it until we've all figured something reasonable out." ( little combo for the Oblivion Stone ) Livio, Oathsworn Sentinel + Oblivion Stone make for a fun little tool. If you just give Livio a fate counter you can basically just exile as many creatures you want saved before you pop the big boy!!

Don't Worry... I see you as a friend, right? (give mana)

Everybody likes mana, especially those greedy decks out there, who believes they'll win if they just get a teeny tiny bit ahead. Well, give it to them I say, make yourself seem like an ally. But remember, don't give people too much of everything, you know what they say; Too much of the good thing, can become a bad thing.

Everybody can easily be bribed, even your own men

It's kind of straight forward in this case. I mostly put it in to stay on theme. Everybody in this field of work is corrupt. You still want to use politics all the time though.

I'll blow up this casino!! & # Sorry son, can't allow that

Now this one is purely protection for your own good. You can of course spend counterspells to help opponents, but the general idea is to get yourself out of a pickle.

Ramp

The Ramping is pretty straight forward as well. It's just a necessity in EDH, don't argue about it.

Study Room of the Godfather

Card advantage and a bit of tutoring at it's best. A place for the Godfather to relax and regain their strength.

Territory

LANDS LANDS LANDS LANDS NEED NO EXPLANATION!!!

Mentality while playing (or how I like to do it):

Now. I prefer to really live myself into the role of this Godfather, and be comedically over-the-top kind and cheesy. That means you need to be the talkative player, who engages in - i know it sounds gross, but - socializing. Always evaluate a deal based on how it affects your relation to each player (going head on 2v2 might be a bad idea is my point).
