Board wipes!

General forum

I've seen alot of questions around the site lately asking about "What are some good board wipes to add to their decks?" so I figured I stat off a thread for everyone whether their into Casual, Commander, Stadard, or Modern. Post em'!

Wrath of God , Damnation , Cyclonic Rift are all good ones in whatever format allows 'em.

Terminus - any white deck

Damnation - not standard and quite spendy but good

Wrath of God

Cyclonic Rift

Bonfire of the Damned -- red. not so spendy anymore!

Supreme Verdict - StandardMutilate - StandardMizzium Mortars - Standard

The last two could be considered board wipes if the conditions are right.

In a red EDH deck, you can use Blasphemous Act or Chain Reaction . They get better the more players there are.

day of judgement , Planar Cleansing , Divine Reckoning , Akroma's Vengeance and Obliterate are some other options

Voltron: Phyrexian Rebirth , Divine Reckoning (I still get one big creature to buff up)

Reanimator: Ratchet Bomb , Gaze of Granite (for the targetted / limited /controlled wiping), Pestilence (for repeated wiping of low toughness creatures or to repeatedly beat down creatures with activated regeneration abilities - and even for a finisher if needed), Novablast Wurm (repeated board wiping until someone deals with it)

If I have no access to W, I use Cyclonic Rift , Devastation Tide , and AEtherize

Against tokens: Ratchet Bomb

When I have a disproportionate amount of artifacts in play: Scourglass

When my own strategy does not rely on having more than a small number of creatures: Killing Wave (also works great as a finisher to math things out ahead of time where keeping a blocker kills them but so does not keeping it)

Although Terminus is a good card, it isn't that great for any of the decks I might use it in (tokens don't ever come back from being decked, voltron self destructs unless Terminus is used veeeerrrrry carefully, reanimator wants things in graveyards, direct damage wants to wipe AND burn)

Although I can appreciate the power of Bonfire of the Damned against token decks, both the monetary and the mana cost are a bit heavy compared to Earthquake and Hurricane - at least in my opinion - and especially in multiplayer games. Usually it can be worked out so that everyone else besides me and maybe one other person dies from it by dealing out damage judiciously before dropping one of those.

I find true board wipes harder to use (and MLD is something I haven't learned to enjoy as of yet) - I definitely prefer strategic partial board wipes. I used to like Sunblast Angel until I think it became a little bit too expected - it is more fun to run it when people are tapping out for kills and things rather than being more guarded and conservative.

The partial board wipes are nice in EDH because the multiplayer format makes target removal less valuable and there are so many hexproof / shroud things out there (especially artifacts).

Yep, Scourglass in EDH if you're playing artifacts. Bring it in with Master Transmuter during your upkeep and use it right away!

I have built a mono-White board wipe deck, using Mageta the Lion as the commander.

I haven't posted it on the site yet, but there are a large number of board wipes in it...

Then there are the PW's...

And, of course, there are artifacts...

and creatures...

After that, the deck's about indestructible creatures, things like Rootborn Defenses and things like Bestow, so that I have stuff after the board wipes.

I call the deck "Last Man Standing" - People are probably going to hate it!

I don't mind the thread Necromancy here because there's a lot of good ones unmentioned.

Some creature wipes others I didn't see above:
Bane of the Living , Kagemaro, First to Suffer , Toxic Deluge

Some artifact wipes:
Vandalblast , Shatterstorm , Creeping Corrosion , Pulverize , Seeds of Innocence

Some enchantment wipes:
Back to Nature , Calming Verse , Cleanfall , Cleansing Meditation , Essence Filter , Hush , Tempest of Light , Tranquil Domain , Tranquility

There's a bunch that overlap artifact/enchantment wipes but I don't have the time to list them right now.
