Myojin of Life's Web

Legendary Creature — Spirit

Myojin of Life's Web enters the battlefield with a divinity counter on it if you played it from your hand.

Myojin of Life's Web is indestructible as long as it has a divinity counter on it.

Remove a divinity counter from Myojin of Life's Web: Put any number of creature cards from your hand into play.

legendofa on How is the New Ghalta …

The ability is more or less single use, and it depletes your hand. It's not unreasonable to use it to try to win the game that turn, but 1. That comes with the territory of being a high-mana mythic, and 2. It doesn't really win the game by itself. It doesn't grant haste, and it doesn't directly deal damage or mill. If you use it incorrectly, it becomes worse than useless, as you over extend into a board wipe or something, losing both your board and your hand.

Of course, it's easy enough to say "if you play wrong, you're going to lose." Looking at whether the ability is actually overpowered, Ghalta, Stampede Tyrant has an effect comparable to Myojin of Life's Web (which has an option for indestructibility) or Rise of the Dark Realms (a black deck's graveyard can easily be on par with a green deck's hand), and less efficient than Primal Surge (play everything in hand vs. play everything in your deck). So the ability exists in this mana range, trading heavier color weight for a slightly lower cost.

For the mana value/stats ratio, creatures have been generally trending better, especially in green. When Ghalta and Mavren team up, the result is even more mana-efficient. Yargle and Multani has 24 total P/T for just six mana and no restrictions. So Ghalta's mana value/stats ratio is notable, but not extreme or unprecendented.

Ghalta, Stampede Tyrant provides a lot of value for a high cost, and when used intelligently can win the game on the spot. The same can be said for almost every other high-mana mythic rare card, many of which are on the same or higher power level.

As someone who played Myojin of Life's Web with That Which Was Taken in commander in 2016; repeatedly putting all creatures from hand into play does, as an effect, severely suffer from diminishing returns. Usually your hand is empty after you do this, so blinking it gets you barely any more creatures in play. Not actually that banworthy. And 8 mana 12/12 is a huge improvement from the 2 mana 12/12 that was the first Ghalta. It's probably worse than Gishath, Sun's Avatar, both because of the colors and because casting from library is more consistent than repeatedly hoarding creatures in hand.

It's a powerful card, for sure, but I think you're more afraid of it than you should be.

Have you thought about Seedborn Muse? Extra untaps to go with your 2 flash guys. Also Weird Harvest goes really well with Myojin of Life's Web.

Always a fan of big green go stomp and this is no exception :)

Remember a while ago where I made Zaren, Silverback Ironfist? The Ape Berserker who revolved around the Fight mechanic? So I built a deck and he was way to powerful. Every single creature spell becoems removal. Even when I nerf him, dropping it from two +1/+1 counters when the creature survives down to just a single +1/+1 until end of turn, everything just decimates the boardstate. Dropping a Hornet Queen just wrecked a game I was playing in. Because he is a custom commander, I have the deck here on Tappedout and I have the browser tab open. My current boardstate (after winning the game) looks like this:

Oh, right. I also have 5x Forest in play, 4x Mountain, Gruul Signet, Mox Amber, Mana Crypt and Arcane Signet. Das a lotta mana, man!

  • It's my Turn 9.

Game ended with me at 24 life.

Took down The Ur-Dragon, Mikaeus, the Unhallowed and Maelstrom Wanderer.

Poor Ur-Dragon died twice to my fights; Once to Akroma, Angel of Fury after she triggered a second time since The Ur-Dragon is both white and blue, she couldn't deal damage back. So when Akroma dealt 6, she got +1/+1 until end of turn and I had her fight again with Hunt the Hunter, since The Ur-Dragon is green. Later, Hornet Queen made short work of it, again.

I think I vastly underestimated the power of the Fight mechanic, and now I understand why we do not have a Fight Commander. T-T

Challenge Dominance

Enchantment

At the beginning of combat on your turn, you and target opponent may each reveal cards from the top of your library until you both reveal a creature card. If you do, they enter the battlefield tapped and fight each other. Put the rest of the revealed cards on the bottom of their libraries in a random order. If one creature survives, it remains on the battlefield. If both creatures survive, their owners shuffle them back into their library.

I'd add Llanowar Reborn to your lands. Retreat to Kazandu, Fangren Firstborn, Ranger Class, Thrive and Rite of Passage are some nice counter additions.

The Ozolith to recycle your +1/+1's.

You probably have enough elves to make Immaculate Magistrate an ok card to add and give Rings of Brighthearth another thing to target.

You have enough mana ramp to make Decree of Savagery a possible win con.

Vastwood Surge is ramp with more counters.

Myojin of Life's Web and Praetor's Council or Weird Harvest makes a nice refresh of your board state.

As for what to take out... (I hate trying to decide) but some standouts would be

That's my 2 cents worth. Hope it helps :)

Hey there, I'm a big fan of the premise of your deck. I've always liked goreclaw, she's a fun card. With that said, I do have some suggestions:

  • Prowling Serpopard -> Allosaurus Shepherd/Destiny Spinner - if your budget allows, shepherd is the better choice, but both are upgrades to serpopard.
  • Veteran Explorer -> Arbor Elf - without a dedicated sac outlet, there is no guarantee you can get explorer in the graveyard in a timely manner, plus it helps all of your opponents. Since you're running both ashaya and yavimaya, arbor elf can potentially untap all of your big mana engines, plus it's an elf and benefits Priest of Titania.
  • Myojin of Life's Web -> Argothian Elder - myojin was always lackluster for me, plus you can't cheat it out. The elder is an elf which again will help priests, plus with ashaya, It goes infinite which is great with all the big fatties you're running.
  • See the Unwritten -> Selvala's Stampede - for the same cmc, you get a much better spell that doesn't make you pitch anything to the graveyard. And what's great about Stampede, it gets better with the more opponents you have. Just make sure you keep a couple of permanents in your hand to cover any way your opponents vote.
  • Those are the big suggestions I have to make at first glance. Here's some other good options for card advantage if you ever find yourself running out of steam.

  • Beast Whisperer
  • Guardian Project
  • Rishkar's Expertise
  • Hope this all helps, and good luck!

This is a pretty busted Goreclaw list, very well done!

God-Eternal Rhonas, Nyxbloom Ancient and Myojin of Life's Web are great addition to Goreclaw. The same is true for Weird Harvest and Shared Summons, although you already have these expensive tutors.

My own list has a far lower budget, but in case you're interesting, maybe take a look: Her Royal Fluffness

Not sure if you ever thought of putting Myojin of Life's Web & Weird Harvest with the fight combo?
