I definitely hear what you're saying about the lack of mana and goblins! Lets add a few more lands and some extra mana/token generation with Dockside Extortionist and Wily Goblin.

While we are adding more goblins:

lets switch Counterspell for Goblin Flectomancer

Merchant of the Vale for Rummaging Goblin

and although we cant pump up its toughness, Siege-Gang Commander is not a terrible alternative for Myr Battlesphere

Idol of Oblivion looks super cool I also found Sarpadian Empires, Vol. VII for more tokens!

Rhadamanthus on Changing Targets + "Whenever becomes …

Yes, that will work. Using Misdirection to change the target of a spell to Bonecrusher Giant will cause the Giant's ability to trigger.

Note that "becoming a target" means it wasn't a target before but now it is. If the Giant was already one of the targets of Winterflame for example, using Goblin Flectomancer to change the other target to also be the Giant won't cause it to trigger again.

Sweet list! Even focusing on a tribal theme, this deck feels much stronger than the average Marchesa list and looks to play better to her strengths. Some wizards I'd consider are Siren Stormtamer , Sage of Epityr , Goblin Flectomancer , Patron Wizard , and especially Spellseeker and Trinket Mage .

Penguno on Deflection Themed EDH

I'm trying to make a deck that's all about deflecting spells (such as Wild Ricochet or Goblin Flectomancer and damage (such as Deflecting Palm). I'm probably thinking of going Jeskai, unless there's a better color combination going out there.
I ideally wanted to make it very monk-themed.

Currently I'm using the partner commanders Ishai, Ojutai Dragonspeaker and Bruse Tarl, Boorish Herder solely for the purpose of making a target for my deflection spells.

Is there any other thing I could use to make this kind of deck work? After much testing, it appears as though I need more draw/filtering spells. What kinds of draws would you recommend that could fit my theme?

Any feedback would be appreciated!

MagicalHacker on Official MagicalHacker Commander List Update …

Welcome, fellow planeswalkers, to the Official MagicalHacker Commander List Update (OMCLU) for Hour of Devastation!

If you are not aware, I have had lists for commander staple effects for a very long time now, and I have been updating them as new sets are released. Rather than showcasing individual cards that are being used, I instead use these lists to show all cards in categories that have proven to be advantageous to have in Commander. More specifically, these categories of staples are ones that answer certain problems a deck could be experiencing, such as having a hard time against control, not being able to play cards in hand quickly enough, or dealing with problematic commanders. (They can be found on my profile.)

The purpose of this thread is three-fold:

  1. To raise public awareness for these lists (which I know to be extremely useful since I use them more than literally any other resource online when building decks).

  2. To receive feedback about HOU cards that should be added/removed from lists.

  3. To receive feedback about older cards that should be added/removed from lists.

Hour of Devastation is now up on Gatherer, so its now time to go through the process of updating my decks!

In the same style, Goblin Flectomancer can change the target of a removal spell.
That would also be true for Perplexing Chimera.
They are like a single use Spellskite.

Why am I still the only one commenting on your list ?! lol

Traveler247 on Sexy Vedalken Allure

Hey! This is Eden. First off, this seems like a fun budget build. I'm liking what you put together. This comment is just to give you some ideas if you decide to tune the list further.

For starters, you have some really weak cards, and there are some cards that are generally good with Nin that aren't terribly expensive that you could run. The cards that seem particularly weak to me are: Goblin Electromancer, Goblin Flectomancer, Bloodshot Cyclops, and maybe just the quantity of creature steal and sac outlets. People aren't always playing relevant creatures, and once you have a sac outlet, you don't need another. You could cut a few sac outlets for cheap tutors. You also have this instant and sorcery sub theme going on that's just kinda halfway there. I would suggest cutting that. Also, you play two cards that combo with Kiki-Jiki: Zealous Conscripts and Pestermite. So you have three combo cards. Typically, you want your combo cards to be useful outside of the combo as well. Zealous Conscripts is your strategy, so it's good. Kiki-Jiki copies some interesting creatures, but you really don't have a lot of targets for it. With the stealing it does get a bit better. Pestermite is just terrible outside of that combo. I would strongly suggest cutting it.

I would suggest adding: Stuffy Doll, Darksteel Myr (indestructible means you can hit it for as much as you want with Nin), Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind, Thought Vessel, Swiftfoot Boots, Lightning Greaves, Basilisk Collar, Illusionist's Bracers, Vedalken Shackles. Tutors like Fabricate, Whir of Invention, Gamble, Mystical Tutor, and Muddle the Mixture can also help add consistency to the deck.

Overall, you have a strategy that doesn't revolve around Nin. This is fine, I often build my decks that way, but it's important that the decision be conscious. Many of the cards I suggested make the deck more Nin-centric. If you add them, you'll be more focused on playing and resolving Nin each game; however, the power that it offers can be worth it. I just want to be clear that my suggestions change the direction of your deck a bit, and I'm not sure if you want that. Anyway, I'm excited to play against it! Cheers!

Neotrup on Can a spell that can't …

GearNoir is 100% wrong. You can attempt to counter spells that can't be countered and attempt to destroy permanents with indestructable. From the gatherer rulings for Blurred Mongoose (another uncountable spell):
10/4/2004: Counterspells can be cast that target it, but when they resolve they simply don't counter it since it can't be countered.

Complicated situation that shouldn't come up as you're 2-for-1ing yourself, but the play works just fine, Abrupt Decay is a fine target. Also, you're fine to target something else with Abrupt Decay, to avoid 2-for-1ing yourself, if there are other targets. In your current scenario Abrupt Decay will be countered for having an illegal target on resolution (as the Goblin Flectomancer is gone), then Counterspell will be countered for having an illegal target as Abrupt Decay already attempted to resolve. If they were using the counter-draw mode of Cryptic Command they would not be able to draw in either situation as Abrupt Decay always leaves the stack first, but in other situations the command can be cast to draw a card by targeting an uncounterable spell underneath it on the stack.
