MagicalHacker on Official MagicalHacker Commander List Update …

6 years ago

Welcome, fellow planeswalkers, to the Official MagicalHacker Commander List Update (OMCLU) for Hour of Devastation!

If you are not aware, I have had lists for commander staple effects for a very long time now, and I have been updating them as new sets are released. Rather than showcasing individual cards that are being used, I instead use these lists to show all cards in categories that have proven to be advantageous to have in Commander. More specifically, these categories of staples are ones that answer certain problems a deck could be experiencing, such as having a hard time against control, not being able to play cards in hand quickly enough, or dealing with problematic commanders. (They can be found on my profile.)

The purpose of this thread is three-fold:

  1. To raise public awareness for these lists (which I know to be extremely useful since I use them more than literally any other resource online when building decks).

  2. To receive feedback about HOU cards that should be added/removed from lists.

  3. To receive feedback about older cards that should be added/removed from lists.

Hour of Devastation is now up on Gatherer, so its now time to go through the process of updating my decks!

I think it looks good, and well designed. I only have little advice to give;

If you plan to go all Vamps, then why not cut the red, then go with Baron Sengir as you General? He is THE Vampire and can buff your other critters, even save them from dying..well..again.

Also, I see you have a copy of Cabal Coffers (very jealous of that one), it makes Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth an auto include.

A wee bit a flavor: Go for the Throat, Call for Blood and Feast of Blood and protects as wellGood luck with your wife's deck _

Yup. And because you activate Lemures' ability a bunch of times, its power is -10,000 (or however low you make it).

So when Call for Blood gives a creature -x/-x, what you're really doing is giving one of your creatures -x/-x where x = -10,000 (or whatever you make Lemures' power).

Giving a creature - negative 10k is the same as giving it +10k.

It's jank, it rarely works, and its way too expensive a way to win.

It's also hilarious

Serendipitous_Hummingbird on Does Subtracting a Negative = …

Okay so obviously it does in math, but what about MTG? Here's the scenario: I activate the ability of Hyalopterous Lemure 100 times to give it a P/T of -96/3, then sac it to Call for Blood which we cast targeting a Tormented Soul. This should give the Tormented Soul +96/+96 since you are subtracting a negative, but I can't find any rulings to confirm that you can do this in magic. Can any rules expert help me out here?
