The need to give the deck more time to find solutions became obvious after several 1v1v1 games. I've opted to remove Pontiff or Blight and Massacre Wurm in favor of adding Diabolic Tutor and Demonic Collusion.

Foil Update

jrl134, 9 years ago

I decided to update all of the foils that I have for the deck. There are still quite a few missing because lands are expensive but his deck is just great.

Cards I considered

Darthagnon, 9 years ago

I considered 2x Lantern Scout and 4x Orzhov Basilica and 1 more Honor's Reward. Ultimately, Battle Priest was better than Scout (and I own him), Basilica was too slow in an already slow deck, and there wasn't more space for Honor's Reward.

Maybeboard

thumbs14, 9 years ago

Added a maybeboard. I'm tempted to replace the Llanowar Elves with more Wild Cantors (if I had more). They're the more aggro card, but until I play more of them and see for myself that might be a better thing. Worst case Gorger Wurm can nom the little guys and be a bigger bomb than he already is.

Bad Mood Update

bswhite, 9 years ago

Life was kicking me around a bit lately, and I wanted to try some tweaks to this deck to see if that would make me feel any better.

Glissa, the Traitor *oversized*->Nissa, Vastwood Seer  Flip. I like Glissa a fair bit, but her value has been mostly hypothetical rather than real in recent playtesting. Decided Nissa is more assured to do stuff for me. May take her back at some point, especially because...

Genesis->Sword of Light and Shadow. Genesis was a really strong card in the deck for a long time, however he does have some pretty severe speed problems, and the metas I play in really don't allow for me to wait on him all that often. SoLaS retains the recursion aspect, but also brings some additional beating power, protections from the two best removal colors in the game, and gives me some life back to help stabilize from how often this deck bleeds me. Speaking of blood...

Relentless Dead->Vampiric Tutor. Another case of a card that seemed really good in theory getting replaced with a card that I KNOW will do work for me.

Silumgar, the Drifting Death->Kagemaro, First to Suffer. Silumgar was very funny with Sakashima the Impostor, but other than being a hexproof flying fat body that ability came up far less often than I would hope. Conversely, Kagemaro has been consistently a strong inclusion from the very moment I added him to the deck.

Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief->Pact of Negation. I adore Drana, don't get me wrong, but sometimes, a deck just needs more NOPE.

Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir->Mystic Confluence. Honestly, this one is one of the most likely to get back into the deck. I'm trying to see if Alchemist's Refuge is sufficient as a flash source, or if I really need Teferi or Leyline of Anticipation in order to "make" a Prophet of Kruphix.

Llanowar Wastes->Hissing Quagmire. The Gitrog Monster has been an amazing addition to the deck, and I realized the guy loves manlands, especially manlands that trade as well as the Quagmire does. Mildly concerned about being able to consistently cast Kozilek, the Great Distortion, and since I've only got one sword, not trying Lumbering Falls over Yavimaya Coast

Deathrite Shaman->Sylvan Safekeeper. Safekeeper has been a card I've been wanting to try ever since I cut Kira, Great Glass-Spinner, which was a card I adored greatly, for being, essentially, even more effective at deterring spells than Kira, and being a loam deck. Gitrog pushed it over the top and made me definitely want to try it. Deathrite is a strong card that is likely to find its way back into the deck, as my only other current means of gravehate is The Mimeoplasm itself.

Other things tried were Tasigur, the Golden Fang and Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord. Unfortunately, Jarad did not preform as well as I had hoped, and Tasigur was a suggestion from a friend that I tried mostly out of politeness. He did even worse than I expected, ruining my graveyard and achieving pretty much nothing.

Retiring the green

razelfark, 9 years ago

Last update for this deck as I am changing it to a black white variant. You can access the new deck here: [Sorin's Starfield](http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/sorins-starfield/) The reasons for changing up the deck idea is because while the green is nice for accelerating me to certain cards, it has too many weakness compared to just running black in its place. Will answer any questions still for the deck to help people who are looking to keep the green for their versions. Thanks for those who helped with comments earlier.

Jori En was not too Talented...

DankDylan, 9 years ago

I went 1-3 at FNM and was not too pleased. But i have realized that Jori En, the name sake of the deck, is not really doing much for me so I have decided that it needs to go. I am going to replace it with Talent of the Telepath. AND I probably need to rename the deck.... let me know what you think!

FNM results

wylie72, 9 years ago

Not the best night, 3-1-1. Beat out Green stompy, Bogles, Burn. Tied with Kikki-chord (although he was one turn away from comboing out), and got destroyed by Merfolk. Switching 3 Electrickery and a Crumble to Dust in the side for a playset of Anger of the Gods. Should give me more game against kikki-chord (Voice of Resurgence, Kitchen Finks, Birds of Paradise) and the mass of merfolk creatures. Also pulling the two Spellskite for Choke

Some suggested changes!

TheInstantClassic257, 9 years ago

Took some of those suggestions to heart. Sorin was taken out and I do believe he is too slow. Allows me to play Avacyn without having to worry about playing Sorin instead. Also lets me focus on other moves instead of paying 6 mana for him. Upped the amount of creatures. More allies are a good thing.

Removed 7x Plains Added 3x Westvale Abbey  Flip Added 4x Drownyard Temple

Nonbasic Lands

The_Solar_Bowler, 9 years ago

I went through and added the R B dual lands. I also threw in Mogis, God of Slaughter because there should be no reason for him not to be in there during planning. We can remove him if we need later on.

The better deck description

Baka-Mangaka, 9 years ago

So, the original deck description was pretty whimsical, and I've also made a few additions since. Firstly, in the ramp department I've added a Thran Dynamo because Gilded Lotus is 1 mana too much to cast, and having some extra colourless mana isn't a bad thing. Vernal Bloom is also in the deck. While Heartbeat of Spring costs less to cast and doubles all forms of mana, it aids your opponents more. Vernal Bloom only helps green mana, and since the deck is predominantly green, it's fine. I've chosen to skip out on other forms of instant/sorcery ramp such as Kodama's Reach and Explosive Vegetation just so I can get value out of an eventual Genesis Wave. Instead,I'm using Sakura Tribe Elder, Wood elves and such as utility creatures. Next, OHKs. Malignus is a brilliant one-turn kill if the opponent has no blockers. Otherwise, pair with Nylea, and with Xenagos's ability, it becomes a hard hitter. Putrefax too, is another one-turn kill. It can also be brought back by eternal witness for more shenaningans. (In one game I Summoner's Pact for an E-wit to recur a Putrefax and won the game) The deck lacked fliers originally, so Hellkite Tyrant is there for utility and as a token flier. Atarka's command gets around flying decks by giving my big creaures reach. I think the whole card draw issue is now fixed, and I'm currently testing out the usefulness of a Howling Mine. I might replace it and run Primal Rage instead, as that enables trample on all my creatures, which is a more powerful effect for this deck Lay of the Land is in there because the deck doesn't reach delirium enough to consistently net the use out of Traverse the Ulwenwald, and it's foil. And pretty.
