Decided that this will be the version I am running for now. I may decide to revisit this deck later and still am open for suggestions.

I'm interested in comments for card choices I've made and an argument against a choice if you don't agree with it. But please if you don't agree with a card choice, explain why. And what you would put in its place.

I've received some really great feedback and this deck has been reshaped more than once due to the feedback given. This would be revision 4 (I think) and I think I'm finally satisfied with it for now. But again willing to make changes if they make sense.

The three main pieces to this deck are:

Venser, the Sojourner, many cards combo with him, namely Oblivion Ring

Tunnel Vision the first win con in the deck and the main kill con, much of the deck is built to support this card, Boseiju, Who Shelters All helps to ensure the tunnel vision will hit if I get it.

Guile / Dovescape (an alternate kill con if tunnel vision fails)

Seems pretty solid, not sure how it will actually play but I've gotten the cards need to pull off the kill most times by 8th or so turn. and once by 4th turn.

Jace, Memory Adept , Archive Trap , Hedron Crab , Decimator Web , Mindcrank , Scalpelexis , Sword of Body and Mind ,, even Ambassador Laquatus will aid you in your MILL objective. Possibly include some graveyard removal like card:Tormod's Crypt or Relic of Progenitus so you're not stocking a graveyard-dependent deck. Oh, and Wrath of God is an auto-include. And if you have the time, try finding these wrath effects too: Cataclysm , Balancing Act , Divine Reckoning , Rout , Catastrophe , card:Akroma's Vengeance, Austere Command , Mageta the Lion , Martial Coup , Solar Tide , card:Kirtar's Wrath, Planar Cleansing , Hour of Reckoning , Sunscour , March of Souls , Winds of Rath , Final Judgment , Hallowed Burial ,,, I think I went a little overboard on the white destruction ;p It's necessary though to stall your opponent's creatures/game-plan while you Mill them out of the game.. . . . . I like the thought of Relearning Traumatize, haha

Nice suggestions for down the road. Most of those cards are pricey. Hedron Crab though is not expensive. Nor is Decimator Web, what would you suggest removing for those? The kill card in this deck is Tunnel Vision, you put a card on the bottom of their library and tunnel vision naming that card. Leaving them only 1 card left to draw. So your right about Tormod's crypt.

Ahhh, I see it now. Condemn , Hinder , Spell Crumple , Junktroller + Tunnel Vision . At first glance, I'd take out Arcane Denial and Surveilling Sprite for a couple slots. Finding Tunnel Vision seems like a task,, Compulsion , Concentrate , card:Jace's Ingenuity, Opportunity , Recurring Insight , card:Mind's Eye all help. Crystal Ball is fun, and digs. Ancestral Knowledge is old-school, and so is Scroll Rack . Land Tax and Scroll Rack are so much fun.... good luck to ya

I like the addition of Propaganda and Windborn Muse . They really tax people mana-wise. There's Ghostly Prison as well, and Magus of the Tabernacle is cruel. You can always throw in LD like Strip Mine , Wasteland , and Tectonic Edge (among others),, but I remember you said you were on a budget. Tectonic Edge isn't expensive, but Rishadan Port is.

Yeah Rishadan port has always been expensive. I remember that card when it first came out. I got rid of all my magic cards years back when I quit thinking I was never going to use them again. Going by today's prices of the cards...over $4000 dollars worth of cards with today's values...

I really like Magus of the Tabernacle...hehe and Ghostly prison...at a loss of what to drop them for.

Riftwing Cloudskate was added back in so if I get the right cards I can lockdown my opponent mana base. Two upkeeps followed footsteps, or Echo mage, rite of replication. then relearn or call to mind to bring back rite of replication. echo mage can make some of the spells in the deck go from nasty to truly nasty. I also want to find room for Erratic Portal. To help with recurring some of my comes into play cards.

I want to add Embargo. But I'm not sure what to remove or even if it would be a good card to add. Anyone have thoughts?

Added Trinket Mage and the two artifact lands, along with Sensei's Divining Top. Thinking of adding Ivory Tower for more stalling potential.

Thanks! Been tweaking it a bit lately. I really want to build this deck.

Solid mill pace, just wondering about some of the graveyard-to-deck cards like junk troller and jotun grunt. Yea, the jaces and archive traps and hendron crabs are all staples. Decimator webs are too slow for their repetitive cost. Remember edh decks are 40 cards harder to mill. I +1d, good luck and happy building.

Virlym says... #20

Yea... Your win-con is mill... Soooo you have one major flaw... What are you going to do when I have a Kozilek, Butcher of Truth ? You will waste your time milling me for my graveyard to just get reshuffled into my library. A card:Tormod's Crypt would be nice, but that means you would have to hope that you either got both the Kozilek, Butcher of Truth and Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre or I was only running one. You can set those worries aside if you run things like Extract and card:Jester's Cap. They allow you to search through my deck and see if I will have anything to prevent you from winning through mill and take it out, as well as prepare for any other threats that you couldn't remove.

Overall, for a W/U mill deck, it's not bad. But honestly, if you're going mill, you might want to make it mono blue and just basically copy my Tunnel Vision Much?. There's so many ways to set yourself up and focus in it. Plus you can get an extra win-con my adding two cards to your deck as it is (Kozilek, Butcher of Truth and Mind Over Matter ), because you already have the Temple Bell .

Sorry if I deter you from your original objective of W/U, but I'm sure you can understand why. There are just too many things blue can do with mill that once you add another color to it, you just lose those things. Unless you're adding black. Because black has synergy with mill because of cards like Nemesis of Reason , Glimpse the Unthinkable , Mind Funeral , Leyline of the Void (and comboing that with Helm of Obedience = insta win btw), etc.

hygroscopicguy: The win con is tunnel vision not mill.

irlym: Some solid suggestions, this isn't a straight mill deck and I don't want to just copy your deck. Mind over matter and Kozilek are some good suggestions as are Jester's Cap / Extract I will see what I can remove for them.

I also forgot to tell you about the infinite creature combo you could have. Guile + Dovescape . Just in case your Tunnel Vision plan doesn't pan out so well.

coleman984 says... #23

But how does overloading my opponent with flying creatures help? Oh i see guile allows me to gain control of the spell. So if I get both out anything cast that isn't a creature becomes creatures for me?

January 3, 2012 1:03 a.m.

Virlym says... #24

Anyone casts a noncreature spell (let's say you cast Brainstorm at the end of their turn, right before yours), Dovescape counters it, in doing so, Guile exiles it. you still get the one 1/1 W/U flying Bird. Then you can recast it, allowing this to happen again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again... Now you have let's say 9,483,821 1/1 W/U flying Birds on the field at the start of your turn... Think you can win now? lol
