Lier likes to be in charge of what resolves and what doesn't. Lier is also too cool for normal counterspells like those other, normie wizards rely on. So to prove he is better than all the rest, he ensures his stuff can't be countered while still finding loopholes to stop other people from resolving dangerous things.

Lier also likes amassing a menagerie of pets off of the incidental value of playing spells, and stampeding them over his opponents. Green isn't the only color capable of building a large zoo!

In short, Lier tricks himself into thinking he isn't a blue card, while still very much being a blue card.
