Lier, Disciple of the Drowned

Legendary Creature — Human Wizard

would it be worth replacing Kess, Dissident Mage with Lier, Disciple of the Drowned? Lier shuts off the decks counter spells which isn't great, but gives but also provides counter protection for combo turns and Lier allows you to cast all your cards in your graveyard rather then just one a turn.

Few things to look at:
-Thermo-Alchemist is worth dropping, doesn't actually benefit from Veyran. Consider adding Kessig Flamebreather in its place.
-You have a lot of effects that double spells (Dualcaster Mage, Naru Meha, Master Wizard, Rootha, Mercurial Artist). It is worth considering that copying a spell is not technically casting it so you don't benefit from effects like Guttersnipe off a copied spell.
-Archmage Emeritus. Enough said.
-Lier, Disciple of the Drowned is pretty solid
-You have a lot of expensive/delve spells that might end up being slower or more damaging than expected. Exiling your spells from the yard invalidates cards like Past in Flames and Crackling Drake, which is counterintuitive. Cards like Apex of Power, Clone Legion, and Spelltwine are fun, but better served in a Mizzix of the Izmagnus deck (another card worth considering!)
-Theres a lot of solid enchantments/artifacts that benefit from Veyran. Metallurgic Summonings, Aetherflux Reservoir, Aria of Flame, Sorcerer Class, etc.

Niko9 on Which non-partner commanders would you …

I'd love to add Lier, Disciple of the Drowned to my Bruna, the Fading Light  Meld deck. Right now I use a lot of self mill to select reanimation targets, but white has very few ways to get instants and sorceries back from the grave, so they are dead cards when they get milled. Having Lier would open the deck up to two whole different card types, and it would be awesome.

But, if I'm being honest, I'd probably do Bruna, the Fading Light  Meld and Emrakul, the Promised End for first the flavor, and secondly because if I add no colors to my deck, then it's already done : )

I’m puzzled as to the inclusion of Lier, Disciple of the Drowned. You have quite a number of counterspells here, all of which would be rendered useless once he hits the table (His text affects everyone’s capacity to counter spells, including your own). Unless it’s strictly for the flashback? If so, there are probably better options.

Necrosis24 on DePietro and Channel?

This has made me realize I’ve been reading Ghost of Ramirez DePietro wrong this entire time. I thought his trigger was tied to the player that was dealt damage.

Well anyways my top pick for a partner would be Tormod, the Desecrator for all the graveyard shenanigans (i.e Living Death) and discard value.

Some high synergy cards would be:

Looking at channel tho there seems to be a higher density in temur so you would have access to better ramp and can do wheel/card draw affects. So perhaps Tana, the Bloodsower with:

  • Rielle, the Everwise

  • Brallin, Skyshark Rider  Flip
  • The Locust God + Wheels
  • Conspiracy Theorist
  • Mizzix's Mastery + Lier, Disciple of the Drowned
  • Glint-Horn Buccaneer
  • Surly Badgersaur
  • Otherwise you can go for purate tribal in izzet with Breeches, Brazen Plunderer or monoblue with Malcolm, Keen-Eyed Navigator
