I actually had Brimaz, King of Oreskos in the deck for a long time, I ended up cutting him because keeping track of which of my tokens had vigilance got very annoying. Other than that most of these look pretty good with the notable exception of Slate of Ancestry. There aren't a lot of board wipes in my local meta so it's not uncommon for me to have 10 or 20 tokens sitting around, I don't want to accidentally mill myself to death.

This looks wonderful. Here's some of the stuff that I use in my soldier-tribal that I don't see here that might be useful to you:

Hope this helped. Keep it up with your nice brews!

Hello, fellow cat and dog enjoyer. I noticed that you pretty much stuffed every cat or dog in naya colors in that you could find but not a single changeling. While changelings might not be satisfying since they don't look like a cat or a dog, they provide great value because they actually trigger Rin & Seris ability twice generating two tokens instead of just one. They also benefit from both lord effects. Notable examples of changelings are:

Additionally, you seem to have missed (or purposfully no included?) some rather powerful cats and dogs:

Just a few for you to consider. I have a list of all good (in my opinion) cats and dogs in my Rin & Seri list: Rin and Seri

Now, let's be real: Its not the best tribal. So I wouldn't force cat and dogs as hard as you do and also supplement with normal creatures like Mondrak, Glory Dominus or Bloom Tender .

You also do not seem to have a lot of draw options in your deck. Depending on the pod you are playing in, board wipes might be present and can absolutely wreck your game plan. Draw effects help you recover from this. Sadly, Naya is not the best color combination for drawing cards and most of the good draw effects are really expensive. You can see some suggestions for draw effects in my deck list: Rin and Seri

I would highly recommend proxying if your pod allows it. Be careful with draw effect like Camaraderie or Shamanic Revelation. They look good on paper in a token theme but they are "win more" cards in my opinion. If your board got wiped and you draw into those cards, they will not do a thing to help you recover. A wheel effect like Wheel of Misfortune however, will draw you 7 fresh cards to start again.

Lastly, I would recommend getting some tutors in there. Eladamri's Call, Green Sun's Zenith, Natural Order and the like. The best card in your deck by far is Jetmir, Nexus of Revels. He is basically your secret commander. If you can resolve him with 9 creatures on the board, you can devastate your opponents out of the blue. All the more important to be able to find him if you need him.

That's all for now. Have fun!

Hi Crow-Umbra & carpecanum, I finally had time to update the deck. Thank you guys so much for your feedback. It is very much appreciated! I'll start from the top of your recommendations.

Luminarch Ascension Used to be the number 1 game winner back in the days when our playgroup started playing commander. My friend had one, I have never played one myself. This deck is THE opportunity for me to bring that nostalgia back to our commandertable. Pet card. Can't cut. You're probably right that the oppos will prevent it from getting counters, but I'm going to pop Angels out of it or die trying xD

Draw

Plumb the Forbidden for Phyrexian Arena is a great swap! In most games I find myself mainly active in my turns and quite passive during other players' turns. So next to the Black Market Connections comparison as you pointed out, Plumb has another benefit of being an instant!

Tokens

Kaya, Geist Hunter got swapped for Relic Vial. Way cooler! Court of Grace is cut for Adeline, Resplendent Cathar. I find the Monarch a very cool inclusion in a game of commander but the card is just not good enough. I think I was forcing adding a Monarch card too much. Hero of Bladehold is another great tip as a token creator. I've swapped the Hero for Vraan, Executioner Thane. Brimaz, King of Oreskos, and Leonin Warleader are both excellent options aswell, but I simply run out of cuts.

That brings me to my final part. Cathars' Crusade is awesome in this deck and I'd also like to add a Necropotence but I simply have no idea what to cut for those anymore. I think I'm already quite short on lands and I'd preferably add 1 draw spell and 2 ramp spells..

Again, thank you both for your feedback. You rock!

I think for the most part your deck categories look fairly balanced. Something I noticed is that some of your token generation is a little slow or conditional. I think you could probably swap out Luminarch Ascension. It's incredibly telegraphed, and if you play in a more aggro meta, your playgroup may do what they can to prevent your Ascension from getting the counters it needs.

I think you could probably swap out Phyrexian Arena for Plumb the Forbidden, especially since you already have Black Market Connections. I love Plumb the Forbidden in my Isshin deck, which also has a creature token creation theme. Excellent response to removal, especially boardwipes, and refill your grip more than anyone else.

I think you could probably swap out Court of Grace for Kaya, Geist Hunter. She has some cool utility as another token doubler, and as a Deathtouch anthem. Additionally, I think you could swap out a basic land for Vault of the Archangel as another means to anthem up your token swarms.

If you are looking for more token producers: Hero of Bladehold, Adeline, Resplendent Cathar, Brimaz, King of Oreskos, and Leonin Warleader are all excellent options that can also give your deck a bit more of an aggro edge.

If you're open to infinite combos, I'd recommend adding Leonin Relic-Warder and any combination of the following: Animate Dead, Dance of the Dead, and/or Necromancy. All 3 Auras can go infinite with Relic-Warder, and create an infinite loop of death triggers & ETB triggers. Here is an explanation of the combo. I think all 4 pieces could fit seamlessly into your deck.

Lastly, I think you could cut Vraan, Executioner Thane and Relic Vial, as they are the weakest of your Aristocrats effects, and you already have a decent volume of them; especially with consistent access to one in the command zone. Both are conditional/limited as to how they can trigger.

That one looks good, too!

I managed to build something pretty close to yours last night on Arena and played about five or six games (in regular Historic, not ranked) and only lost one or two. Unfortunately, Preeminent Captain and Brimaz, King of Oreskos aren't available on there, so I swapped in two more copies of Myrel, Shield of Argive. I also had another major problem... I ran out of rare wildcards! lol Because of that, I had to swap out Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx and both copies of Mutavault for two more basic Plains and a single copy of Memorial to Glory. I also had to swap out two copies of Kayla's Reconstruction for the same reason.

I did, however, possibly make a great discovery....Basri Ket! Both of the games that I cast him he more than paid for himself. His -2 made my board explode and I was able to close it out next turn. Basri and Myrel work really well together! I made like 13 soldier tokens on that turn alone. lol He could be another case of "win more" but I felt like it was worth mentioning.

The only problem I ran into was a lack of removal. Not sure if it's worth adding in due to how aggro this deck wants to be, though.

KBK7101 I really did think pretty hard about splashing the blue. Between Myrel, Shield of Argive and Brimaz, King of Oreskos pooping 1/1 tokens, and with Kayla's Reconstruction digging for additional cards, I just don't see the need for any of the blue cards. Brave the Elements is powerful enough by itself to protect creatures (instead of Zephyr Sentinel), and if I get Harbin, Vanguard Aviator on board and activated with 5+ soldiers it's basically just a "win more" card and I've likely already got the game in the bag. Were I to splash a color it would be green to get Collected Company, I think.

I do appreciate the thoughtful suggestions! They are good suggestions, but I just think staying mono-white is the cleanest version. Thanks for the comment!

Daveslab2022 on I solved mana screw and …

This thread is such a clusterf*ck.

Dude, estoner

You keep saying things like

“ The existence of Generic Mana is a mistake”

Dude this isn’t true. Generic mana has intentionally been part of the game since day 1. Do you really think Serra Angel was not printed as intended and that the was a typo?? Like what do you mean it was a mistake?

Then in comment #8 you said

“ The color screw just increased skill in mulligan decisions and sequencing.”

But you didn’t explain how. You just said it. Anybody can say anything, but that doesn’t make it true. Did you know that magic was actually intended to be played by your pets? Not by humans? Yeah! Richard Garfield was sad that your cat was sitting at home all day with nothing to do, so he designed MTG for them. Then humans stole it!!

See what I mean? Anybody can say any ridiculous thing they want but until you provide evidence and logical reasoning for your claims, they don’t actually hold any weight.

Next you said

“The game is at its best when there is a sharp distinction between colors and usually at its weakest when everyone is running five-color goodstuff.”

And this is literally just an opinion. You said that KTK was your favorite and most well-designed set. But KTK was a bunch of 3 color cards! The entire intent of the block was to push 3 color decks. Why is it your favorite set and the most well designed if it does the opposite of where you think the game thrives???

In th exact same comment you said this

“ Like I said, I'm not sure how this would work with mulligans or starting hands. ”

But a few comments before you said it made mulligan decisions increased in skill. ….. but you don’t even know how you want mulligans to function in thsi scenario, so how can then be more interesting??? Lol

You also said

“I noticed in playtesting that I was making more important decisions than in regular Magic.”

But AGAIN failed to back it up with facts or evidence or logic. You just made a statement and expected everybody to just believe you. Remember, your a stranger on the internet. You have to actually try to convince people that your ideas are good. We’re not your little brother who idolizes you because you’re bigger than us.

Another statement you made was

“Color screw is extremely important for balance, but with the current rules, it never comes up.“

Literally anybody that has ever played a deck with more than one color will tell you this is not true.

If I have a Brimaz, King of Oreskos in my hand, and I true 1 plains, and 2 Forest, I can’t exactly cast my spell now can I?

I’m going to continue to respond to some of the other comments you made, but this reply was getting massive.

You can @ and then my name to tag me in your reply, please :)
