Budget 1v1 Geist of Saint Traft list.

This is an on going project for sharing with local players in my LGS who are looking to get into 1v1 EDH for FNM and would like to see some lists that can perform well without a huge price-point. You DO NOT need to spend a ton of money to make a competitive list that can top at your local LGS.

First Upgrades:

MANA BASE: As a two color deck you don't have to worry about your mana base to much but after you have the deck built the first thing you want to upgrade is your manabase however you can. Geist needs to come down on turn 2 or 3 EVERY GAME. And to do that you need a consistent manabase. Start small at first with cards like glacial fortress, hallowed fountain, adakar wastes, command tower, mystic gate, prairie stream, seachrome coast, mana confluence and city of brass. These are all less than $20 upgrades and some are super budget but all will help you smooth out your mana so you never lose tempo or speed to only running basics.

• Lotus Petal: enables turn 2 geist which is something you want every game.
• Cataclysm : Geist is one of the few decks who can take great advantage of Armageddon effects and this is another psuedo destroy all lands effect.
• Elspeth, Knight-Errant : She is incredibly efficient, gives evasion and a nice pump every turn and all the while being a threat on her own. Fantastic Card.
• 0 mana Protection: Force of Negation // Pact of Negation. These really help you push geist through even against other blue decks.
• Stoneforge Mystic + Umezawa's Jitte: Jitte is probably the best equipment in the entire game, it gains you life against burn, clears small blockers, and pumps geist to get the kill faster. Stoneforge is a 2 mana tutor for it and can hold jitte or a sword in a pinch.
• True-Name Nemisis - This hatebear has protection from everything your opponent does other than sac and board wipes. He's basically geist 2.0 he can hold an aura or equipment and get you there many many times.
