Volcanic Rambler Discussion

I second ballisticexperiment. You need more consistency, otherwise, you'll win like 10% of the time. Not a big fan of Volcanic Rambler, Makindi Sliderunner and Ondu Champion, the first because it costs too much, the other ones because you have no way to get out multiple lands per turn.

I'd remove Volcanic Rambler and Phytotitan and add Orcish Lumberjack and Ramunap Excavator. It will significantly lower your CMC and allow you to get Omnath out faster and bring back your lands.

Hum.If yer going for aggro, I would drop the CMC of the creatures you got down a notch.

-Shivan Dragon

-Volcanic Rambler

-Nettle Drone

-Fiery Hellhound

I would start by dropping these. My reasoning?

They Will not be casted by the time you plan on ending the match. So instead, look for cards like Reckless Bushwhacker and Ember-Eye Wolf for starters.

Those will make your deck quite faster, along with other one drops like Village Messenger  Flip now that I think about it.

Start there.

I made a few card switches:

Volcanic Rambler out, Zendikar Resurgent in. I have never used the rambler's ability, and this will also help to smooth out the 6-drop bump in the mana curve.

Vandalize out, Structural Distortion in. Lower cost, exiles instead of destroy, and I just like Structural Distortion better. I won't be able to destroy two things, but I think the switch is still a net gain.

Akoum Firebird out, Obsidian Fireheart in. The firebird's landfall cost is high enough that I have never seen it as much of a playable ability. I like the inevitability that can be achieved with the fireheart's blaze counters. Also, this is an elemental replacing a non-elemental.

Atarka Monument out, Mountain in. I have actually run into the problem of running out of basic lands to pull from my library before. To combat this I have culled any non-basics I felt were unnecessary. This deck doesn't really need a mana rock anyway when that slot could give me a 5/5 token instead.

Rolling Thunder out, Comet Storm in. I get instant speed instead of sorcery, and comet storm can deal a total of more damage for less mana.

Other cards I might consider for replacement (but I'm not sure what to put in their place): Glade Watcher, Naturalize, Reclaim, Stampeding Elk Herd, Seismic Elemental.

As for the fifteen to cut, it's a hard ask to go through obviously, but pick instants and sorceries which won't win you the game like Summer Bloom, Nissa's Renewal, Pyrotechnics, Explore, Bathe in Dragonfire, then thin out the middle cost creatures like say Volcanic Rambler, Subterranean Shambler, Fire Elemental, Bramble Creeper, Magmaw, Flamecore Elemental and you are most of the way there

I'll comment here from now on. It's easier for both of us.

I like Stoneforge Acolyte in an equipment heavy deck, but not really this one.

Weapons Trainer is very good, but again is best for equipment heavy decks. I mean it's still an amazing 2 drop, but you only get her pay off with an equipment on the field.

I'd rather put an extra Kor Bladewhirl in than her for the First Strike advantage.

You should add Firemantle Mage to this deck. It helps get early damage through.

I would use Chasm Guide instead of Kor Entanglers.

I have a LOT of experience with Allies. Here's the deck I built which did very well at FNM:
Triple A

What seems to work best is a lot of early interactions which are difficult to deal with, First Strike, Menace, Haste, and then something huge to finish off at the end. The finisher doesn't need to be an Ally.

Something like Akoum Hellkite, Archangel of Tithes, Emeria Shepherd, Linvala, the Preserver, Sentinel of the Eternal Watch, Serra Angel, Shivan Dragon, Sprinting Warbrute (he might be amazing in your deck with his Dash ability), Sunscorch Regent, Thunderbreak Regent, Tyrant of Valakut, Volcanic Rambler, Wardscale Dragon (I just realised this combos well with Sprinting Warbrute as they can't use Instants on it and it will be back in your hand on their turn), Wingmate Roc (this is a tried and true staple).

Of course everything needs to be tested. I'll try to keep an eye out for how you are going.
