Surge of Righteousness

Instant

Destroy target black or red creature that's attacking or blocking. You gain 2 life.

Conversion , Volcanic Eruption , and Glaciers to mess with his mountains.

Flash Flood and Flashfreeze for red removal.

Surge of Righteousness to get rid of red creatures.

Chill to tax red cards.

Baleful Stare to draw a lot of cards.

Teferi's Moat name red for ultimate protection. Harsh Judgment for more red protection.

don't forgot some neutral cards like Path to Exile , Swords to Plowshares , and Grasp of Fate just in case you aren't playing against red guys. If you want to keep the theme of color hose, Mana Maze and Drought are fun.

Finally, if you want to drop 400 dollars against your friend. Invoke Prejudice .

I hope that helps.

I wouldn't make them tribal decks. I would just pick a "commander" that reflects that colors greatest strengths. You might at well make the format modern as well if its just going to be the set 5 decks.

Here are some Ideas for my commanders and their edicts.

W- Go wide Odric, Lunarch Marshal, or Odric, Master Tactician with some tiny fellows that all have cool keyword abilities and a few angels

W edicts: Luminesce, Celestial Purge, Surge of Righteousness

U- Control Talrand, Sky Summoner, or Baral, Chief of Compliance. Just load the deck with all instants and sorceries and a few sphinx as win cons

U edicts Encase in Ice, Flashfreeze

B- Midrange Gonti, Lord of Luxury, Yahenni, Undying Partisan. just play a bunch of mean and treacherous things and sprinkle with demons

B edicts: Deathmark, Talara's Bane, Self-Inflicted Wound

R Tempo "aggro wont work in a 5 player game" Grenzo, Havoc Raiser, Lovisa Coldeyes, kind of aggro but with more card draw and removal with some good dragons too,

R edicts: Combust, Rending Volley

G Big ol' Ramp Rishkar, Peema Renegade, Silvos, Rogue Elemental, just get lots of mana, defiantly include some hydras.

G edicts Display of Dominance, Great Sable Stag, Mold Adder (I kno they're creatures but green gets an exception)

Look for white devotion (Evangel of Heliod and Heliod, God of the Sun) as well as Surge of Righteousness and Spear of Heliod. Other cards include the Runes and Circles of protection, Fiendslayer Paladin, and Celestial Purge. Elspeth, Sun's Champion is amazing too.

I like this idea a lot, life drain decks have always had an appeal to me. Have you considered Palace Siege for grinder matches? I'd recommend maybe one in main and one in side if you want to run it. Also, how is Ayli in this deck? I feel as though she is a bit out-of-place, and I think a third Kambal would be good in place of her.

As far as sideboard goes, I think you can cut Essence Extraction, Thalia, Heretic Cathar (you already have Authority of the Consuls), Felidar Sovereign (it's a cute wincon, but I think it should probably be main boarded if you want to use it), Surge of Righteousness, Harsh Sustenance and one Virulent Plague and Flaying Tendrils. This leaves 2 spaces open for whatever is in your meta. I'm not the best at sideboards, but this is what I can recommend for now. :)

Hope this helps!

First of all, awesome build. As for suggestions...

You may be surprised how strongly a couple extra fetchlands can shore up your land base. Also I would lean towards 25 land over 24 for a build like this. Here's my specific recommendation:

+1 Polluted Delta
+1 Windswept Heath
-1 Island
-1 Scatter to the Winds

As for the sideboard, Surge of Righteousness is so good against Burn and Flashfreeze is so good against Jund that I would probably run playsets of both, and it would still leave you with two empty slots for 2x Stony Silence. That would cover the most prevalent Tier 1 decks in the format pretty nicely.

A few suggestions for your sideboard:

Aerial Volley for dealing with small fliers cheap and efficient

Surge of Righteousness against aggressive red/black decks, taking out one of their creatures + the life gain is often enough to put them on their back foot

Natural State fast, cheap, enchantment hate that will hit most common enchantments such as Silkwrap , Stasis Snare , Fevered Visions
