This deck all started because I wanted an excuse to make Endless Whispers viable in a deck. I tried Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest but without a board state she simply didn't do anything and I abhor inconsistency in my commanders. I ultimately settled on Athreos, God of Passage. Since his ability reads as a "creature you own,"it doesn't matter who's saccing them, they always come back to you. This can get really silly with Homeward Path and/or Blood Artist. Not to mention you have the chance of getting any other creatures that die. For every creature I assumed my opponents would simply pay the 3 life, so I asked myself "Would I be willing to put a sorcery in my deck that did the same thing, but also burned someone for 3 damage?"

The deck is actually fairly budget, almost the entire price is made up of a few expensive cards that the deck doesn't actually need, but does make solid use out of. These cards are Mikaeus, the Unhallowed, Loyal Retainers , Serra Ascendant, Weathered Wayfarer, Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth and Cabal Coffers. Take those out and you'll save around or a bit over $100 dollars.
