Deck Acquired and First Match!

GRUULFTW, 11 years ago

I Acquired this deck through trading and spending some money. I played casually against one my friends who plays a standard g/r monsters. So here's what happened. In our first game he got a turn 3 storm breath dragon that blew me away. I had no protection against flying things... Second game I mana ramped to a turn 6 primal surge and ripped him apart. Third game was close, but in the end a progenitor mimic plus Thragtusk loop saved me. I gained 5 life each turn and had a wall of Thragtusk defenders. I used a vorinclex Kruphix and prophet of Kruphix mana trick to make Polukranos a 100/100, wipe my friends board and swing with everything killing him.

Land Switch

ElendVenture, 11 years ago

I've decided to switch out the Guildgates/Maze's End for shocklands/City of Brass in an attempt speed up the deck.

Karametra, God of Harvests *f-etch* Can also use her ability to pull 7 out of the ten shocklands out of my deck and onto the battlefield. This makes for much quicker land grabbing than the previous Maze's Endfoil method.

Haemogoblin, 11 years ago

Took out the Overbeing of Myth, while it was easy to cast and a decent draw engine the deck needed something to make it a bit faster, so I included the Noble Hierarch instead.

Also swapped Simic Charm to mainboard. Took out Mana Bloom as I have no interactions with it in the deck, I replaced it with Abundant Growth for both mana fixing, or making a Gemstone Mine not lose counters as well as providing more draw.

2nd Place FNM, 4-1

TheGamer, 11 years ago

We did it guys! We got another homebrew into top 8! But this time, it was second place!!!

Round 1: Selesnya Aggro, 2-0. This deck straight up hoses Aggro. Once I play a turn 3 Courser of Kruphix, they are screwed. They may have lots of creatures compared to me, but is also have Elspeth, Sun's Champion that can come out on turn 4! That's basically what ended up happening both games.

Round 2: Simic Super Ramp, 2-0. This deck I was very happy facing because he showed me his whole decklist before we started FNM. Anyway, you all probably don't know about this deck, but it is basically a deck that runs lots of ramp cards so you can use all the mana on something huge.

Anyway, to the match itself! Game 1 he scooped turn 4 after keeping a one land hand (don't ask me why). Game 2 we were both playing the land go, land go game. Eventually I play Sphinx's Revelation for 6 which resolved and proceeded to win.

Round 3: Selesnya Aggro, 2-1. Basically same exact deck as round 1 except this guys deck was very fast. It ran about 12-16 one drops. I lost game 1 because of the Aggro of his deck and failing to get a courser out. Game 2 I was heavily prepared for his wrath. He went very fast but I played turn 2 Sylvan Caryatid, turn 3 second caryatid and a Last Breath. Then I topped it all off with an Elspeth, Sun's Champion turn 4. Game 3 was very intense. I had the board state, but he had Ajani, Caller of the Pride. I finally was able to D-sphere and he scooped.

Round 4: Naya Auras, 2-1. Game 1 I won after gaining just enough life to sustain and get him into top deck mode. He topped lands and my Elspeth, Sun's Champion got there. Game 2 he went super fast and killed me turn 5 after blood rushing a Ghor-Clan Rampager and giving the creature double strike with Boros Charmfoil. Game 3 the multiple Centaur Healers and huge Sphinx's Revelations got me there.

Round 5: Junk Midrange. 0-2. This was just a terrible match-up for me. He had the huge creatures and the spot removal.

Top 8 we split because lots of us were going to the 5K in Orlando today. $19.83 is pretty good. And 2nd place?!? All thanks to u guys. As always, thanks for your support and happy Deckbuilding!

FNM 6/14/2014

Talgor, 11 years ago

Took this deck to FNM and decided to try it out. Went 3-2 and was extremely happy with how the deck played overall. The matches I lost were mainly just due to mana flooding.

Round 1: Went against a R/B aggro deck. I took quite a bit of damage in the first round but was able to stall with my removal and then drop Obzedat, which he had no answer for. The second round gave me a lucky Fiendslayer Paladin in my opening hand and I easily took that game. Result: 2-0

Round 2: Went against a G/W deck running the classics like Fleecemane Lion, Loxodon Smiter, elspeth, experiment one, blah blah. First game I took pretty easily because I got Blood Baron out and he couldn't answer it. Second game I lost because of mana flooding. I lost the third game because of mana flooding again, and right when I dropped Obzedat, he used Selesnya Charm to exile it. Result: 1-2

Round 3: Went against a Dimir Mill deck that tried to kill me by making me draw cards (used some black creature that made me lose a life everytime I drew). Could have been dangerous but the player wasn't that great, so I won both games with no problems. Result: 2-0

Round 4: Went against another Orzhov midrange, although he was using Godsend. First game I got mana flooded, and I lost quick. Second game, he got mana flooded, and I won quick. Third game was a bit more interesting. I got a clutch Brain Maggot off early to take his Elspeth, and he ended up attaching a Godsend to a Nyx-Fleece Ram, which actually stalled me for a while. Once I had about 5-6 creatures on the board, I just started swinging, and eventually beat him down before all my creatures were exiled. Result: 2-1

Round 5: Went against a Boros Aggro deck. I got some extremely unlucky draws in this game. First round I drew into 2 Whip of Erebos and 2 Read the Bones, which were all dead cards that round. Second round I used Devour Flesh twice to stay alive on my own Desecration Demon, but still lost because I didnt draw into any creatures. Result: 0-2

Mana?

Valentine35, 11 years ago

Still unsure if my mana base is correct i always seem to get it out and get what i need but im not sure if im just getting lucky. I havent touched the mana base cuz its been working so far, but any suggestions on tweaking it would be most helpful.

Mahrae, 11 years ago

Looking to add Liliana of the Dark Realms, as per suggestion and i'm not sure how i glossed over that card, now the question is what to take out...

FNM Update 2

JasperMcFoxx, 11 years ago

This week I managed to get my first 3-0 and take first place for the night.

Round 1

Opponent: Esper Control

Game 1: Win. I kept playing creatures with my opponent playing answers. Eventually I ended up with more creatures than he could remove, and I took the game.

Game 2: Loss. I kept a hand that only had two lands, Temple of Triumph and a Sacred Foundry. These were alongside all of my green/white creatures such as Fleecemane Lion and Loxodon Smiter. I never drew into that green mana for a quick loss.

Game 3: Win. I had a very stacked hand. I ended up with a Fleecemane Lion on the field and four Brave the Elements in hand. The sticky lion won me the game.

Round 2

Opponent: Izzet

Game 1: Win. He kept a slow hand due to not knowing what I was playing. That ended poorly. Quick win.

Game 2: Win. Opponent missed their land drop they counted on for a 3x Molten Birth hand, and could never stabilize. Another quick win.

Round 3

Opponent: R/G monsters.

Game 1: Loss. We both threw out dudes and made them big and stuff, but Stormbreath Dragons kept coming and kept pressure longer than I did.

Game 2: Win. He mulliganed down to 5. 5 cards obviously isn't the best situation, and allowed me to play more aggressively. Quick way to move on to game 3.

Game 3: Win. I barely squeaked the game out. We were swinging hard on each other. He bonked me hard with a bloodrushed Stormbreath Dragon and double Ghor-Clan Rampager combo for 12. I hung in there with 3 life and went for 15 damage of my own, ending the game.

Overall, I was very happy with my deck and my play for the night. I had practiced sideboarding for different matchups more before this week, and I feel it really paid off. In several games I had sideboard cards to work, especially Mizzium Mortars.

FNM 3-1

Mirrid, 11 years ago

Match one was a quick one against Dega aggro. The guy couldn't hit his land drops and my tempo plays kept him beaten down. Both games ended in about 5 turns to a Brimaz, a Smiter, and an Unflinching Couragefoil. Finished up 2-0.

Match two was against a kid who had just started Magic. Went easy on him and his Dimir aggro deck. 2-0 easily, then I helped him work on his deck. It was a really fun match.

Match three was Mono-Blue Devotion with Dakra Mystic ruining my draws. Game one I should have mulliganed to 6, kept the hand greedily, and lost to a second Master of Wavesfoil after exiling one with Banishing Light. Game two I brought in Gainsay and Dissolve and kept the game going for a considerable amount of time, but eventually lost when he tapped down my Loxodon Smiter with Tidebinder Mage and I just couldn't land a relevant creature to deal with his third Master of Wavesfoil to hit the field that game. Finished the match 0-2 with a close second game.

Match four was against Golgari constellation/dredge. Guy couldn't hit any of his pump spells and I beat him out 2-0.

Changed deck

Kept the selesnya Shield of the Oversoul theme, but decided to throw in some hate for control and discard.

FNM First Place Again + Updates

Sandy_Rivers, 11 years ago

The first time I took this deck to Friday Night Magic, it took first place. Then I got sick and couldn't go the next Friday. One week later, the second time I take this to FNM, I take first place again. So... yay.

Elvish Mystic has earned its place in the permanent mainboard. It just helps. Also Lotleth Troll is awesome and the trample is a game ending trait, so I've decided to take out the two Nyx Weaver for two more Lotleth Troll to bring the count up to four. Nyx Weaver just doesn't perform that well.

I had a close game against another Golgari deck (not constellation) that sideboarded graveyard hate running Scavenging Ooze and Deathrite Shaman, although the Deathrite Shaman may have been mainboard. I don't know. I've decided to change my sideboard a bit:

My sideboard now gives me the capability/option to switch from dredge to just B/G Constellation Midrange without relying on the graveyard whatsoever. You do this by sideboarding in 4x Doomwake Giant and 4x Brain Maggot and taking out 4x Strength from the Fallen and 4x Nighthowler.

Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx has been added to the mainboard to replace Rogue's Passage, because Rogue's Passage sucks and I have no idea why I put it in. Five mana for an unblockable creature? I think I will just run trample. I also got my hands on another Temple of Malady so now there are three of them. So close to a playset.

As far as my matches go:

Game 1: Some kid with a bad mono-green deck. Easy 2-0 win.

Game 2: Boros aggro. Lost round one to a Soldier of the Pantheon enchanted with Madcap Skills and Ethereal Armor. Couldn't deal with it in time. Round two I sideboarded in 3x Golgari Charm, got two in hand and never needed to use them. I won round two. I also won round three. Ended with a 2-1 victory.

Game 3: Won 2-1 against Golgari Midrange. Old style dredge deck. Won the first round. Second round he sideboarded grave hate and whooped my ass quick. Once he dropped the Whip of Erebos on round two it was game. Round three I barely pulled off a victory with one turn before I died.

Game 4: Won 2-0 against mono-black weenies. They were close games, but I won in the end.

Game 5: Won 2-1 against Bant Control. Was really fun, but he had mana problems in round three and I got too far ahead of him.

Well, that's all folks.

I no longer play this

Modern Event

ManiacMike0643, 11 years ago

So with my demon deck unfinished, took it too modern and did surprisingly well

Round 1: 2-1 Vs Eldrazi

1st Game was just dead for me, i drew nothing, he drew everything, killed me with Ulamog, the infinte gyre

2nd Game much better, early game beatdown with a Goblin Electromancer followed by a very timely Spite of Mogis, Boros Reckoner, Dictate of the Twin Gods combo.

3rd Game he took a 1 land hand, in a deck with 23 land, why? I'll never know, but he couldn't keep up, lots of early game burn, countered EVERYTHING he played, then used Spite of Mogis for 8 on my Boros Reckoner while he was on 8 life, GG Eldrazi.

Round 2: 0-2 Vs Bant Hexproof w/Control elements

1st Game, Double Ethereal Armor on a Witchstalker what else do I need to say?

2nd Game, Double Ethereal Armor + Unflinching Couragefoil on a Bassara Tower Archer bloody hell I hate hexproof decks

Round 3 2-1 vs Birthing Pod

1st Game was a washout, he got Birthing Pod out turn 2 thanks to Birds of Paradise I just died

2nd Game was more fun for me, burning all of his mini creatures, countered his Birthing Pod, much burn to the face, I win

3rd Game, NO WAY in hell I should have won this game. Lets cut right to the end. I'm on 1 Life, Cameron is on 20 Life, I have only Dictate of the Twin Gods on my field and a Riddle of Lightning in my hand, I play it, scry 3, nothing, so now it all rests on the top deck, only 2 Enter the Infinite in the deck and I'm holding one of them, BAM BIATCH!!!! Take 24 straight to your face! YEAAAAAAAAH!!!!! YOU CAN'T BEAT THE LIGHTNING!!!!! That was more or less my reaction, I caused quite a scene, I was very embarrassed.

Round 4: 0-2 Vs Boros Weenies

1st Game and 2nd Game most of his creatures got burned, but so did mine, and when he plays Thalia, Guardian of Thraben, I kind of need my Goblin Electromancer alive, not constantly getting hit by Lightning Bolt or Lightning Helix Long story short, couldn't get the mana I needed to pull off anything, all of my Boros Reckoner got hit by Path to Exile and even then I didn't have enough mana to do much

Overall: 2-2 13th out of 19, not too shabby for a Modern Event

advice anyone?

redninja, 11 years ago

so heres the build im running at the mo and it seems to be working quite well BUT..... mono black gets me with underworld connections iv just adjusted the side board but I haven't had the chance to test it out yet. comment questions would be awesome chur

Top 8 Again

KingZale, 11 years ago

I went top 8 again this week and there were 35 players total. My deck went 4-1 before top 8 and it only lost to an Azorius Control deck in the 5th round. During final 8 I lost due to a stupid blocking decision that cost me the game. Overall I am very happy with how this deck is playing out and just need to practice more so I don't make another dumb decision. Once again, all comments are greatly appreciated.

Small Change

Mr000Penguin, 11 years ago

Switched out Thrill of the Hunt in favor of Rancor

darktemplar56, 11 years ago

out - Day of Judgment - Pithing Needle - Rite of Replication in - Austere Command - Gisela, Blade of Goldnight - Savage Beating The Rite combo really hasn't been happening so far. I've used it maybe once. I'm going to try leaving in Scourge of Valkas for mass reanimation and Worldgorger combo though. Gisela and Savage Beating in for testing as well.
