For white control effects, you're spot on I'd say, with effects like Preacher or Debt of Loyalty.

Also, Olivia Voldaren is red in addition to black, and Threaten-effects are a mainstay there, it's Captivating Vampire that's the rare "flavor over color pie"-effect we're talking about.

Balaam__ did someone mention nutty deck ideas that deserve love?! He's right! BAck! AT! IT AGAIN! with these crazy decks. I can always get behind some kind of nuanced golgari themed deck. Food, Elves, Toxic, you name it. This one was no exception. +1

I’m still FAR more inclined to defer to the flavor of the card over color identity. Vampires taking control of other creatures by turning them into vampires is great, like Olivia Voldaren. I think the answer to the “off-brand” problem is making sure the flavor fits the color of the card you’re making. Honestly, having a white creature that gains “control of target creature attacking you” could fit the flavor of some kindly friar who “rehabilitates” a conscripted goblin during the raid. Feeds him, clothes him, and makes a friend. I would want some downsides, because it’s a strong effect; maybe the target creature deals its damage to the friar as he gains control of it. Maybe give the creature defender too, I dunno. Throw in some flavor text: “Friar So-and-so remained stoic as the goblin raged against the door, waiting for it to smell the food awaiting it outside.” I feel like it’s 100% fine… and this goes for all effects. I think this is how they currently handle things like flying, right? If they don’t want fliers, no problem, just don’t do it because the color isn’t allowed to have fliers.

If you use a card like Umbral Mantle you'd be able to untap Krenko and use it multiple times per turn and could use Skirk Prospector to fuel these.

Basic hint of the game is you need plains & mountains to cast the cards such as fable the mirror breaker, ocelot pride ,seasoned pyromancer, etc. MY advice here is to reduce the number of swamps in the deck & add shock lands to the mix that are both swamp plains & Mountain. Try stone quarry,Bloodfell caves, even the basic plains & mountains are better. Otherwise your hand will be clogged up with cards you can't even cast.Right now it's only mardu because you have the white & red creature & a saga, but they can't be cast Nomad outpost is another good card to get the three mana combo for the sake of a turn that it's tapped, but it can count for the three mana you need

Looking at all the black cards that have the phrase "gain control", it's not as if black had a ton of this to begin with. There are 15 mono- cards that gain control of stuff on board. A number of these are vampire cards, which will probably still get it for flavour reasons. Most others are old and obscure, or gain control of stuff you gave away in the first place  Flip. Or they are Herald of Leshrac, which is a weird card even for Coldsnap standards. So no big loss, and even then, it's still just MaRo who sad that.

@SufferFromEDHD Excellent ideas! (Also a really funny username.)

Forbid seems great if you want to take the deck in a reanimator direction, where Forbid's buyback could get a creature out of your hand and into your graveyard. I chose the Counterspell just because I had one on hand, and if I was going to switch it out, I personally think I'd go for something that didn't have a second in its cost.

Hex Parasite also seems sick! Removing finality counters hasn't really been a huge concern for this particular build, mostly since I don't care too much about looping things in and out of the graveyard (except for the win-con). But, I think a card like that would absolutely shine in a Noctis build that wants to loop things constantly for value. Doing so might cost a lot of life between the and Noctis' ability, but you could build to compensate for that.

Good to hear that rabbits are that competitive. Even the Bloomborrow starter decks the rabbits usually wipe up the otters despite the two decks being designed to be equal power. With that said, my favorite tribal from the set has to be squirrels with their forage mechanic, hopefully we'll see more choices for all these tribals in the future. Maybe Hunter's Talent could work better than ram through since it sticks around and can eventually become a card draw engine.

I love this construction. It's got power, it's got finesse. It's got that raunchy little snarl leaving the other 3 in Duress. +1, I'm impressed. Reminds me a lot of something another friend of mine is currently brewing. How have your matches gone? Do you use this in 1v1s or more of a pod setting?

In this post, Mark Rosewatwer stated that black shall no longer be able to steal permanents that are currently on the battlefield, and I am wondering why that is the case.

I presume that the reason for that change is because black can steal creatures from an opponent's graveyard, so it would be intruding on blue's territory if it could steal permanents that were currently on the battlefield, so what does everyone else say, about this subject? Why can black no longer steal permanents that are currently on the battlefield?

I have replaced Decanter of Endless Water, Shared Summons, Baleful Strix, and Vorosh, the Hunter with Bloom Tender, Korozda Guildmage, Lotuslight Dancers, and Ruthless Deathfang, which reduced the average converted mana cost of this deck from 3.58 to 3.56, because the newer cards better fit the theme of this deck than did the older cards.

Changes - IN: City of Traitors, Sheoldred the Apocalypse, Party Thrasher. OUT: Reflecting Pool, Lightning Skelemental, Long Goodbye.

Reasons:

City over pool - I find Pool quite able to be akaward in todays landscape of DC, since it can happen you only have 1 other land on a 5-6 hand or 2 lands extra on a 7 hand where one or two depending on the hand size, are colorless or one colored, which gives yourself a soft lock, which could been prevented. Although City do not fix this issue, the upside of it being able to make a surprise deadpool turn three is devistating to certain decks.

Shelly over Skelemental - I tested Skelemental and seemed awaful, when your oppoenent were far ahead and did nothing against aggro decks, where shelly is great against aggro and makes certain matchups like Asuza, which can be akward a much better matchup.

Thraser over removeal - Thought had enough removeal in the deck, and seen a lot played thrasher and been against it where a phlage player used it and really like the card selection it can provide, plus it makes your own unearth and animate dead better, plus can increase the strength of the three goys I have in my list.

As a side note, Judith's best friend is Electrickery. Who says Izzet and Rakdos can't get along?

Polaris on Can negative counters from instances …

Well, yes, but actually no, for two different reasons.

Deathtouch and lifelink are just keywords, and Judith, Carnage Connoisseur can apply them to any spell, as the ability says. However, those keywords only apply when something deals damage.

First reason: Disfigure gives a creature -2/-2, and that's it. It does not put -1/-1 counters on the target, and it does not deal damage. Neither deathtouch nor lifelink will apply here.

Second reason: Even as a 1/1, your friend's indestructible creature cannot be destroyed. Since deathtouch has the effect of "whenever this deals damage to a creature, destroy that creature," indestructible nullifies it.

To deal with an indestructible creature, you generally need to exile it, reduce its toughness to 0 or less (at which point it will die without being destroyed), or force the opponent to sacrifice it. Something like Disfigure is usually ideal for the job—it just wasn't big enough in this case. Grasp of Darkness would have worked perfectly.

Usually, Judith, Carnage Connoisseur wants damage spells like Lightning Bolt for removal, though those will have issues with indestructible. On Disfigure, you'd just use the Imp mode of her ability.

So for anyone who didn't notice, we're getting a rules change for commander: Any legendary vehicle can be your commander now.

Ghaltratron, the Challenger

Legendary Artifact - Vehicle

Trample, Haste

As an additional cost to cast this spell, you may tap any number of creatures you control with power 6 or greater. If you do, Ghaltatron becomes a creature until end of turn as it enters.

Whenever one or more vehicles you control deal combat damage to a player, you may search your library for a land card or a vehicle card, reveal it, put it into your hand, and then shuffle.

Gidgetimer on Can negative counters from instances …

So, deathtouch and lifelink only apply to damage. Neither counters, nor temporary power/toughness reductions deal damage. They are therefore unaffected.

Also, for reference something only puts counters on a thing if the effect uses the word "counter". Black Sun's Zenith puts counters on creatures. Disfigure does not.
