Tangle Wire

Artifact

Fading 4 (This artifact enters the battlefield with four fade counters on it. At the beginning of your upkeep, remove a fade counter from it. If you can't, sacrifice it.)

At the beginning of each player's upkeep, that player taps an untapped artifact, creature, or land he or she controls for each fade counter on Tangle Wire.

I do have some ideas in mind when it comes to closing out a game with Poison counters. But you don't have to make it through a couple times - all it takes is once and it's the beginning of the end. Some traditional combo pieces would be:

And other spells of that ilk. Another synergy are +1/+1 counters. Forgotten Ancient, Hardened Scales, Branching Evolution, Ozolith, the Shattered Spire and The Ozolith are real powerhouses if you wish to go that route. This synergy does telegraph your moves more and you'd be less explosive.

But what to do when the table goes against you? I recommend stax. Tying up the resources of the table, forcing slower and less impactful turns on your opponents while the clock continues ticking. Cards like Astral Cornucopia and Everflowing Chalice help break parity as you will likely have access to more mana than your opponents while they're being held back. Some oldies but goldies would be:

  • Winter Orb
  • Static Orb
  • Ensnaring Bridge (This has good synergy well with the aforementioned pump spells as you can still attack with low power infect creatures)
  • Tangle Wire (A personal Fave as you can proliferate these counters)
  • Parallax Wave (A personal Fave as you can proliferate these counters)
  • Parallax Tide (A personal Fave as you can proliferate these counters)

Playing pretty much any of these cards will likely earn you some ire - but the idea is to only play these when you have poison counters on your opponents and you can reliably proliferate them at least once or twice a turn. The idea is that you've already got your opponents where you want them, all you'd need to do is simply wait while the Poison counters end them.

It had not been implemented yet as I was asked to try and reduce some of the complexity. I don't think I succeeded.

Exception: Any string that replaces the first elipses that has a period in it.
Exception: Any string that replaces the second elipses that starts with "s named" or " named" or " with the same name"

This should catch instances of multiple cards being tutored. Note the lack of an inclusion of a period at the end for the first three.

All instances of the word "your" can be swapped for "target player" or "each player".

Individual cards: Demonic Consultation, Divining Witch, Emergent Ultimatum, Quiet Speculation, Tunnel Vision

Individual exceptions: AEther Searcher, Boldwyr Heavyweights, Hired Giant

Mass Land Denial:

"sacrifices ... lands"

Exception: If the above ... has "two" or "three" in it for any of them.

"each player ... chooses ... land(s) ... sacrifices the rest."

"lands don't untap"

Exception: If the card is instant or sorcery.

A global expection for all Mass Land Denial is made if "nonland" is in any elipses.

note that the list hasn't been implemented yet. That specific part does hit Magus, Balance and Cataclysm but doesn't hit Razia's Purification, Balancing Act nor Pox. I can add in an additional option for permanents, Pox has unique wording so will have to be manually added.

This is what I have so far.

Mass Land Denial:

"sacrifice ... lands"
"each player sacrifices ... lands"
"return ... lands to their owner's hand"
Exception: If the above ... has "two" or "three" in it for any of them.
Note the requirement for the word land to be plural.

"lands don't untap"
"Players can't play lands"
Exception: If the card is instant or sorcery.

"each player ... chooses ... land(s) ... sacrifices the rest."

"return all lands to their owners' hands"

All instances of the word "land" dictated as a requirement in the strings above can be swapped for "permanent".

"Whenever a player .... that player returns a land they control to its owner's hand."

"lands are (land subtype)."

All instances of the word land dictated as a requirement in all the strings above can be swapped with "nonbasic land", "Plains", "Forest", "Island", "Mountain" or "Swamp".
All instances of the word "sacrifice" can be swapped for "destroy" or "exile".
All instaces of the word "player" can be swapped for "opponent".

A global expection for all Mass Land Denial is made if "nonland" is ever in the textbox.
Individual cards bypass exceptions.

Hi NeverCloud,

I am always a fan of Skittles, and Poison (aka Infect/Toxic) and am happy to see yet another deck in my favorite archetypes. First bit of advice I must give you is that you must build a proper deck description. You don't need to build a whole primer, but you need to inform the visitor to your page of what cards/synergies are important. Is this deck meant for a 4 player pod? Single player? What kind of decks do you want to match this deck up against?

As for card recommendations, I understand you are going for a more stax (shout out to that foil tangle wire btw, I have one of my own and I absolutely adore that card) approach but I think having a bit of ramp may help you have more consistent games. I suggest the following:

I'm curious as to why you lean more heavily into a discard theme as opposed to a voltron or proliferation subtheme? On that note, I do have some card suggestions for you:

  • Sword of Feast and Famine - this helps you break parity with Tangle Wirefoil and Static Orbfoil in play. Unfortunately, yes you can't target it with Hatred or Howl from Beyond but I think that's a small price to pay to be able to get all of your lands to untap after just one attack.

  • Phyresis Outbreak - this card gets poison counters on opponents without targeting them, and is only amplified in efficiency by your commander after it takes just one swing against an opponent. It may be slower than what you're looking for, but worth considering.

That's it from me, I don't want to inundate you with card options. But I am genuinely curious as to how your games look, and what your usual paths to victory are.

Forgot about other stuff and sideboard updates.

I see the problem with the 5 mana stuff, so I added a couple Helm of Awakening to try and reduce the cost a little. Has to be colorless since almost all of my 5 drops are artifacts. Speaking of 5 drops, i added a single Mangara's Tome as a way to kind of tutor with a added risk. More tweaking foreseeable in the future. I know it's jank, no need to tell me.

As for the sideboard I took out Black Vise for Red Elemental Blast. Forgot what I took out, but I put 3 Burnout in there. Added a couple Tangle Wire, leave the creature hate alone and I think it's fine.

Also as for the whole Dwarven Ruins thing, I'm actually debating if I should replace those, or take out two mountains for the Balduvian Trading Posts. Again I'm very much in debate over this.

I use some pieces from the Necron deck in my Glissa, the Traitor deck. It has a lot of artifacts going in and out of the graveyard, so those Necron cards were an easy slot in.

If you want to lean into a more staxy/control version, there are several additional cards that can work well with her (Torpor Orb, Smokestack, Tangle Wire, Grave Pact, etc)

I've got some of those in my version of Glissa. Shameless plug for my deck haha. Glissa, Traitor of Mirrodin [Artifact Primer]

Looks fun!

I might recommend Smoke and Tangle Wire if you want more stax.

Also, Unwinding Clock could be great with your commander turning your artifacts into mana rocks
