Commander: Hua Tuo, Honored Physician

Here's the basic gist:

  • (Step 0: Ramp a lot. You need a lot of mana.)
  • Step 1. Play Hua Tuo, Honored Physician
  • Step 2. Using Planar Portal, Ring of Three Wishes, Planar Bridge, or other means, find Verdant Succession
  • Step 3. Play a sacrifice outlet, preferably one that is free and does something.
  • Step 4. Find God-Eternal Rhonas, Vigor, Hyrax Tower Scout, Great Oak Guardian or any creature + Thornbite Staff

  • Step 5. Sacrifice one of the above creatures. As Verdant Succession's trigger goes on the stack, they either shuffle in as a result of their own ability, or you shuffle them into your deck by tapping Hua Tuo, Honored Physician. Then, allow Verdant Succession's trigger to resolve, which finds the original card and plops it right back into play. Repeat ad-infinitum.

  • God-Eternal Rhonas makes your dudes infinitely big. You can also choose him as the commander of this deck for more consistency and reliability, but I found that Hua Tuo allowed me to include more weird cards and utility creatures that made the list more fun overall.

  • Great Oak Guardian makes all your dudes infinitely big AND untaps them, so mana dorks make infinite mana, Seeker of Skybreak gives you extra Hua Tuo uses, allowing you to cycle other ETB effects into each iteration of the loop.
  • Hyrax Tower Scout simply produce infinite death triggers, but with Panharmonicon or Dual Nature out, it gives you two untaps of Hua Tuo per loop, allowing you to cycle other ETB effects into each iteration of the loop.
  • Vigor is the worst, and just generates infinite death triggers.
  • Worldspine Wurm is another option, and makes infinite 5/5s. However, it's cost makes it pretty unweildy, so I didn't include it in this list.

Other wincons are Blasting Station, Altar of the Brood, Minion Reflector, and you can also capitalize on infinitely big dudes with Crashing Drawbridge + Instill Energy/Lightning Greaves.

My recommended Protean Hulk pile is Great Oak Guardian ;).

Some other utility creatures that might not be 100% obvious as to why they're included:

  • Lotus Cobra turns your dudes that ETB to find lands into mana-positive for loops, and can be easily included in hulk piles. (For example, Hyrax Tower Scout + Lotus Cobra + Veteran Explorer is a pretty great pile).
  • Barishi allows you to sacrifice your whole board to your sac outlet, then only target Barishi with Hua Tuo to allow Verdant Succession to bring back everything, as it shuffles your whole grave back in before succession can resolve.
  • Moldgraf Monstrosity can recur your whole graveyard to the battlefield over multiple iterations if included in a loop.
  • Finale of Devastation can give your whole board haste in a situation of infinitely big fatties, in addition to just generally being a great tutor, but can be prohibitively expensive to ramp up to. In general I recommend drawbridge + instill/greaves. But you can also just put Concordant Crossroads in your deck if you're a coward.
