From out of the vault, they storm the skies, raining the fire of heaven on all who oppose them.

I picked up From the Vault: Angels, so this is my attempt at a competitive commander deck. It won't be going to tournaments, but it's certainly not budget like my others. I was disappointed that Gisela wasn't in the set, so I opted to buy her separately and put her at the helm. I chose not to add Iona for political reasons, but she's a possibility in here.

This deck is all about doing as much damage as you can. Double damage from Gisela, Blade of Goldnight, Quest for Pure Flame & Dictate of the Twin Gods. Add Heartless Hidetsugu and destroy your opponents - but watch out - if you don't have Gisela to protect you, Hidetsugu will hit you, too! But the Palisade Giant can also save you. Add Avacyn, Angel of Hope so your opponents can't stop you. Quietus Spike doesn't benefit from the doublers, but it also gets around damage prevention.

Inviolability + Palisade Giant - even better with Whispersilk Cloak or Mask of Avacyn You are now invincible.

Avacyn, Angel of Hope + Mask of Avacyn or Avacyn, Angel of Hope + Whispersilk Cloak

Gisela, Blade of Goldnight + Heartless Hidetsugu Kills everyone but you.

Dictate of the Twin Gods + Heartless Hidetsugu + Palisade Giant Kills everyone... but you. You can also replace Dictate with a fully activated Quest for Pure Flame and watch the world burn.

Gisela, Blade of Goldnight + Skyblinder Staff or any of the angels makes them practically unblockable.

Quietus Spike + Whispersilk Cloak = ouch!

Deathrender + Kami of Ancient Law or any of the other sac creatures lets you drop an angel early in the game.

Adarkar Valkyrie + Reckless Reveler or any of the other sac creatures lets you destroy stuff. Repeatedly.

The rest is all just ramp, recursion, defense and vicious flying creatures.

Edit - I need Anya, Merciless Angel in here! She and Heartless Hidetsugu are best friends. As soon as I get my hands on one, Kumano, Master Yamabushi or Firemane Avenger will be losing a slot. Or maybe drop both and try out Reya Dawnbringer .
