A semi budget River Song deck focused on forcing opponents to search/scry and cards that make you put things on the bottom of your library. The deck has a couple of combos, some of which can go infinite. I'm still new to deckbuilding, so I'm open to any suggestions on how to make the deck better or more unique.

Infinite Extra Turns:

  1. River Song and Timestream Navigator create infinite turns as long as you have . During your upkeep, use Timestream Navigator's ability to get an extra turn and send it to the bottom of the library. You then draw it, and can repeat the process next turn.

  2. River Song, a graveyard recycler (Transplant Theorist, Tomb Trawler, Barkform Harvester, Junktroller, Hoverstone Pilgrim, or Reito Lantern) and any extra turn spell (Capture of Jingzhou, Temporal Manipulation, or Time Warp) create infinite turns as long as you have (or less with Junktroller, and more with Reito Lantern). Just play the extra turn spell, then activate the recycler to send it to the bottom of your library. Then, during your next turn, draw the extra turn spell and repeat.

  3. Timestream Navigator and The Temporal Anchor can create infinite turns as long as you have . During your upkeep, when The Temporal Anchor lets you scry, put 1 card on the bottom. In response to the second ability, activate Timestream Navigator, gaining an extra turn, and sending to the bottom of your library. As the second ability of The Temporal Anchor resolves, it will exile Timestream Navigator, allowing you to play it from exile. Repeat each turn.

Niv-Mizzet Shenanigans

  1. Niv-Mizzet, Parun and Curiosity or Niv-Mizzet, Visionary allow for lots of damage, acting as an end game finisher. When you draw a card, Niv-Mizzet, Parun deals one damage to a target player. When this happens, it triggers Curiosity or Niv-Mizzet, Visionary, which lets you draw a card, repeating the cycle.

Non-Infinite Combos

  1. River Song, Narset, Parter of Veils, and Teferi's Puzzle Box can make opponents empty their hands, and unable to draw more cards, while you are untouched. card:Teferi's Puzzlebox will make each player put their hand at the bottom of their library, but due to Narset, Parter of Veils, they won't be able to draw any more cards, and thus will have an empty hand. If you have River Song on the battlefield, Teferi's Puzzle Box functionally doesn't affect you.

  2. River Song, Radiant Performer and a nonbasic land destruction card (Demolition Field, Field of Ruin, or Volatile Fault) allows you to destroy all non-basic lands not controlled by you for (or with Volatile Fault). Just activate the ability to destroy a nonbasic land destruction ability, then cast Radiant Performer in response. This will make the land destruction ability trigger for every nonbasic land you don't control. Your opponents will either have to search their library, making River Song get tons of +1/+1 counters and deal lots of damage, or not search, and be severely crippled by loss of lands, if you used Volatile Fault, you will also make lots of treasure tokens. NOTE: This combo can also be triggered using Ghost Quarter, Cleansing Wildfire, Geomancer's Gambit, or Sundering Eruption  . This will target ALL lands, which includes your lands. Because you can search without punishment, it might be worth it, but you will be left with no nonbasic lands.

How to Get Combo Pieces

  1. Cards that let you play off top of your library (Fblthp, Lost on the Range, The Reality Chip, and Narset, Parter of Veils).

  2. Cards that let you search your library (Noble Benefactor and Imperial Recruiter).

  3. Cards that let you draw (Transplant Theorist, Ingenious Mastery, Opt, Dig Through Time, Curiosity, and Trenzalore Clocktower)

How To Make River Buff

  1. Destroy lands by using Krenko's Buzzcrusher, Cleansing Wildfire, Geomancer's Gambit, Sundering Eruption  , From the Ashes, Demolition Field, Field of Ruin, Ghost Quarter, and Volatile Fault. Opponents are forced into a lose-lose scenario. Either they lose a land for nothing, or they search their deck and make River stronger, taking damage in the process.

  2. Giving opponents cards like Hithlain Rope, or Ingenious Mastery or Eyes Everywhere gives your opponent a small buff in exchange for getting River stronger. If you're feeling like lying, you can even market these as group hug.

  3. Give River Equipment like Blackblade Reforged, or Clout of the Dominus. River deals damage based on her total power, not her base power, so you can use these to make River deal more damage.

How to Not Get River Removed

  1. Active prevention like An Offer You Can't Refuse, Swan Song, Arcane Denial, Counterspell, Negate, Invert Polarity, Spell Crumple, and Counterbalance. You can also use Slip Out the Back to have River phase out.

  2. Preemptive prevention like Swiftfoot Boots, Lightning Greaves, or Clout of the Dominus.

  3. Politics. This deck has lots of land destruction. If someone has a high chance to use target removal, you have the option to threaten to destroy their basic lands.
