History

There are many iconic days in human history which have great significance. July 4, 1776 marks the signing of the Declaration of Independence, World War II officially ended on September 2, 1945, and on August 23, 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. gave his impactful “I have a dream” speech. Although these dates are certainly important, none of them are quite as legendary or iconic as January 22, 2016: The release date of Oath of the Gatewatch.

Oath of the Gatewatch is currently best known for its powerful eldrazi (and Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet ), but a far greater power lurks within the set. It took the raw intellect of our good friend brendan_1206 to discover this broken card hidden among the bulk commons. Clearly a mistake that slipped by Wizards R&D, this creature is without a doubt the most broken card in magic’s history (even surpassing the iconic Storm Crow ) and we will stop at nothing to prove it. It is the one... the only... Saddleback Lagac .

With newfound ammunition at our disposal, we set out to build a deck that would perfectly compliment the raw power of Saddleback Lagac ... by piling as many of them onto the battlefield as possible. Pathetic 60 card formats which would only let us run 4 lagacs were obviously out of the question, so Commander was the format of choice. There happens to be a perfect commander for this deck which lets us run as many lagacs as we want (which we definitely didn't make ourselves in mtgcardsmith). And thus, we birthed our perfect creation, our masterpiece, our magnum opus.

Primer

This deck is solid proof that Saddleback Lagac is not only viable, but meta-breaking. I mean come on, this deck has 20 of these guys. How could this possibly not be amazing?

In case it somehow isn't obvious enough, here's how to play this deck:

  1. Play some lands and maybe a few ramp cards or whatever. Also play your commander if you feel so inclined. You can take your time, because there's no way your opponent will be able to stop you.
  2. Play a Saddleback Lagac . Your opponent will probably scoop at this point, but they may be able to muster some courage and continue despite the obvious inevitability of losing.
  3. Play 19 more Saddleback Lagac s. Now that you have successfully assembled the Saddleback Swarm, the game is pretty much over.
  4. Swing for lethal and watch your opponent's rage skyrocket.

Additional Disclaimer: You may be banned from using this deck or simply kicked out at your local FNM for one very simple reason: It's too broken. They may also complain that "your commander isn't an actual card" or whatever. Don't worry, they're just salty that they don't have as high of a DPS as you.
