What's shuckin, I'm ZetaD, but you can call me Zeta. And I'm back from my hiatus for the fourth episode of the DMCries (Last episode: Tetsuo’s Training). In hindsight, I probably should have spaced that one out more. Oh well, live and learn I guess.

Anyway, last time we looked at Tetsuo, Imperial Champion, so this week we're gonna see his greatest rival: Ramses, Assassin Lord. And he's so over it. Assassin Lord? Who do you think he is? He's the greatest assassin the world has seen! Equal to none! And you want him to be a LORD? Unbelievable. Yes, that's right, Ramses is the only assassin in what is supposed to be an Assassin tribal deck.

But we don't need any other Assassins. In fact, Ramses doesn't even have to show his face for some time. After all, what's the point of being the best Assassin if your targets see you and you don't immediately kill them? Wasted potential.

Serpent Generation

For those that have read the previous episode of the DMCries, you'd know that I said Tetsuo learned from Ramses to get his whole infect idea. And, well, here we are. That's right, Ramses is also using poison counters. But not in the way you might expect. See, Ramses has been in this game for a long time. If you are aggressive, people will take notice of you. And we cannot let that happen. So instead of attacking, we're gonna use spells.

Cards like Prologue to Phyresis, Vraska's Fall, and Infectious Inquiry are all new cards that give poison counters to each opponent. Virulent Wound is the most mana efficient way of poisoning. Reaper of Sheoldred is a decent disincentivizer for attacking you. Decimator Web is a sure fire ten turn clock. Then, of course, Serpent Generator and Swamp Mosquito do actually attack, I lied about not ever attacking. Oh well.

Recursion

Of course, casting spells once is boring. Let's cast them twice for more value! Archaeomancer, Mnemonic Wall, Salvager of Secrets, and Shipwreck Dowser are the most consistent. Repository Skaab requires you to sacrifice something. Relearn, Call to Mind, and Said / Done are other spells that get back spells. Aquatic Alchemist, Meldweb Curator, and Treason of Isengard put them on top of your library, for next turn. And Founding the Third Path also lets us cast a card from our hand for free.

But then again, why cast our spells only twice? Displace, Ghostly Flicker, and Illusionist's Stratagem all flicker two creatures, allowing you to a) get back the flickerer, and b) get back the poisoner. Displacer Kitten, Nephalia Smuggler, Conjurer's Closet, and Thassa, Deep-Dwelling all have repeatable flickers.

And of course, Panharmonicon and Virtue of Knowledge double up the ETBs.

Assassination

Now, I know what you're thinking. "Zeta, I thought you said there weren't any assassins in this deck besides Ramses!" And that is true. But that doesn't mean we can't get any assassins on the field. Yes, using cards like Amoeboid Changeling or anything that starts with Mistform, we can get an assassin by technicality. Swing with it, and we don't actually care if it dies or not, because Ramses only cares that we attacked with an assassin that turn.

So swing with one of your "Assassins," bring out Ramses, Assassin Lord, and give someone that last poison counter. Bam, assassinated. And you win the game to boot!
