This deck is stupid and no one should play it.

The goal is to keep untapping Alena, Kessig Trapper until you've floated enough mana to kill everyone with an X-cost spell.

Gilanra, Caller of Wirewood is there solely to guarantee ramp from 3 to 5 mana and let you play Alena the following turn. Therefore all the ramp in the 98 goes from 1 to 3.

So your first three turns hopefully look something like: mana dork -> Gilanra -> Alena and then you're ready to win on turn 4.

Turn 4 is a nightmare of mental math that probably wins the game if no one stops it. There are 3 main types of cards to that end:

  • Creatures with high power and comparatively low mana cost, to unlock Alena's mana ability.
  • Threaten effects that untap Alena using only red mana.
  • Burst card draw, to keep it all going indefinitely thanks to huge amounts of mana from Alena.

^^ You only need the creature and the card draw to get started, as you can draw into the untapping cards.

A good start would go something like: Hunted Troll -> tap Alena to float 8 {R} -> Life's Legacy to draw 8 -> Hijack to untap Alena, tap her again, now you have 13 {R} floating and 7 more new cards. Rinse, repeat.
