Test #5

I played once more against my friend's MB vampires to which he had made some slight modifications and won 2-1. In one game, I missed a critical land drop and couldn't handle myself against growing ranks of vampires. One victory was an easy one, but I won the other with just one life left.

Okay, so after seeing my deck in a 4-player-multiplayer game I came to the conclusion, that I really don't play too much with creature cards in my graveyard. Normally I try to keep it empty and bring the creatures back. For that reason I took out most cards that work on that principle. As another matter of fact, I noticed I need more mana producers, card drawers and library peekers. So I went for some different cards, especially those that give me scry (love Tel-Jilad Justice). And I went for more creatures with deathtouch and/or flying and/or reach.

Friend of mine is getting back into magic and he wanted a mill deck, so I said what the hell and gave him the deck xD I don't play it as much as I would like and now him and I will enjoy joint custody of our Magic love child (lolz) so he has changed it to a zombie mill, and I have to say it has kicked my ass lol, so ill be updating it to what it is now once we get the list finalized xD

I played against legacy R/U Storm deck. It didn't use many of the most powerful cards available to the format and I won by 2-1, with one game lost to the fact that I missed a critical land drop and after running in circles for a while, I was obliterated by Ignite Memories. But in other games, I managed to stabilize in time, sweep the board and remove creatures and then proceed to deal damage.

I played against standard-legal R/U Izzet deck with focus on milling, graveyards and Epic Experiment. Even with a crappy hand, I managed to stabilize and won every game pretty easily, but I must attribute some of my victories to the fact that the power level of standard is much weaker than that of modern.

So I've changed up the land and added in some forests. I also put in Deathrite Shaman because i played against a cuople of them and they are an awesome card.Artix_Krieger, 12 years ago

Enchant World

Before each game, a player rolls a D20. The roll corresponds with an enchantment or artifact that affects both players and cannot be targeted or destroyed. Here is the current list: 1. Maelstrom Nexus 2. Fervent Charge 3. Urza's Filter 4. Concordant Crossroads 5. Fecundity 6. Gravity Well 7. Prismatic Omen 8. Revelation 9. Rite of Passage 10. Rites of Flourishing 11. Vernal Equinox 12. Everlasting Torment 13. Gibbering Descent 14. Dream Halls 15. Invasion Plans 16. Mana Flare 17. Need for Speed 18. Ricochet 19. CUSTOM - once per game per player, if a player has under 5 health at the beginning of their upkeep, that player may draw a card at random from the Super Special Stack O' Creatures and put that card into play under their control as if it were just cast. 20. No artifact or enchantment (alternative - write a card with your own house rule). The last two can be slots for agreed-upon house rules. For instance, if you want to play strip magic, you can create an Enchantment that says, "Players can't gain life. For every 5 life a player loses, that player removes an article of clothing." Match 1: I'm up against red burn and can't get my enchantments out effectively. and lose round 1. I win round two by getting my Brushstrider up to 4 toughness from 2 ethereal armor, and he's unable to burn it. I win game three seemingly from him drawing lands. Match 2: I'm up against R/W/U control, and lose round 1 from not being quick enough. I also lose round 2 to a massive play mistake. Playing Sigarda before combat with lethal on the board. He casts think twice, and hits a terminus. We play a third match for fun, and I lose to a similarly bad play mistake that I can't remember. Match 3: Monoblack vampires. I win 2-1, after being unable to deal with first striking vampires effectively in one match. The board had stalled, but my opponent had a Vampire Nighthawk to outlast me. 2-1 Would have been better without that play mistake.

I think this list is very good, except I am testing one with dispel and cavern in the board. Along with a trostani. Here is the link. http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/true-selesnya-4/ I probable won't update True Selesnya 3 anymore.

Did a lot of changes to this over the past few days, I think this deck is a little more focused around the ETB effect of my fatties...have not had the chance to playtest it yet though, so possibly more changes to come in the very near future.

3-0 at local FNM
boston89, 12 years ago
first game was against G/B aggro. burn and ash zealot were the keys big time! 2-0 second game was against U/W control with angels. burn did the trick by itself first game. second game lost kinda fast because of no creature draws. third game got perfect draws with cacklers coming out fast and lots of good burn draw. 2-1 third game was against U/R izzet with a playset of snapcasters.both games were close because of the similar play styles but i was able to pull out both due to great burn draws and cackler/ zealot attacks. overall the deck is one of the most solid i have ever played. i consistantly miracled thunderous wrath EVERY game at least once. deck is strong and fast as hell!FNM - Bell's Comic's and Cards

This was my first time working with Lotleth Troll in my deck, and I was playing in a new competitive medium where I didn't know what everyone else was playing. With my brother by my side, playing his incredibly fun Sublime Archangel deck, it was shaping up to be a fun night right from the start.
Round 1 vs. Red Deck Wins
Now, I refer to my opponent's deck in round 1 as "Red Deck Wins," but it was literally just a bunch of red cards thrown together in a hodgepodge of unsleeved slop. I knew from the start that it would be an easy win. He came out relatively quickly in game 1 with Goblin Arsonist and Mogg Flunkies, but I came out even faster with a turn 1 Gravecrawler, then put out another one, as well as a Rancor turn 2. I essentially followed with the perfect next few turns, with Geralf's Messenger and Falkenrath Aristocrat, while he put out some other random things that didn't make a whole lot of sense. I won game 1, and followed through with another game just like the first in game 2. I finished the round in less than five minutes, and felt good about my chances later on.
Result: 2-0 Win
Round 2 vs. UW Control
I'm always happy to play against nice guys that aren't just in it to be competitive, and this guy was an upstanding gentleman. His deck was based around controlling the field with Supreme Verdict and Detention Sphere, and protecting his Geist of Saint Traft as his win condition. Unluckily for him, I was on another hot streak and I forced him to use his Geist to block my swarm. He sat at 2 life near the end of game 1, and I used Sign in Blood to do the final 2 damage. In game 2, I came out quickly once again with Gravecrawlers and Rancor. He was forced to use Detention Spheres to slow me down turn after turn, and turn after turn, I used Abrupt Decays to get rid of them and swing with my pumped zombies. It was actually pretty funny. Eventually I got out my Falkenrath Aristocrat and swing for lethal
Result: 2-0 Win
Round 3 vs. BR Zombies
I hate mirror matches, and, quite honestly, my best move of this entire round was winning the opening roll to go first. This guy was talking up his deck, saying it was the fastest in the format, all night. He was also agreeing with his cronies all night that Jund Zombies takes away from the speed of the deck. It was literally whoever went first won the game. In game one I won turn 5 with two Falkenrath Aristocrats and a zombie swarm. He came back in game 2 with a perfect 5 card opening hand to beat me, delivering me my first loss of the night. In game 3, the MVP was Blood Artist, who allowed me to swing all out without much worry. Although, later on he came back with two of his own, but a perfect topdeck Geralf's Messenger helped me deal the last 4 damage.
Result: 2-1 Win
Round 4 vs. Enchanted Stalker
I don't know if there's a name that everyone uses for this deck, but it was a deck that utilized cards like Invisible Stalker, Geist of Saint Traft, Ethereal Armor, Spectral Flight, Rancor, and Increasing Savagery. I told him from the start that I loved how different it was from the meta, and that I would love to play a deck that's a lot like that one in the future. Since I didn't have Tribute to Hunger sideboarded that night, I knew it was gonna be tough. He came out quickly in the first game with Increasing Savagery on his Geist of Saint Traft, forcing me to keep some zombies back to block. I was able to slow him down, topdecking a few blood artists to keep me alive, then I pulled a Geralf's Messenger just in time to deal the final 2 damage and win. In game 2, he came out with Invisible Stalker and two Ethereal Armors, and I was okay with trading blows for awhile. At the end of the game, I was able to weasel my way out of a tough situation with the help of Falkenrath Aristocrat, Blood Artist, and Rancor to deal exactly lethal. He decided to wanted to keep playing me until he beat me after we were officially done. I beat him in two more games and waved the white flag for the night.
Result: 2-0 Win
Round 5 vs. Selesnya Midrange
This was the last round of the night, and I was promised either first or second place, which I was happy with. Being the competitive person I am, though, I was in it to win it. In game 1, my zombie swarm came out quickly, hitting hard, but he was able to slow me down with a lot of 3/3's like Call of the Conclave, and Centaur Healer, and he made a lot more with Garruk, Primal Hunter. I had his life low and was using Blood Artist to slowly take him down, until he used Oblivion Ring on it and summoned Thragtusk to get back up in life. My lack of red mana, as well as 2 Dreadbores and 2 Brimstone Volleys in hand was kind of frustrating. By the time I got my red mana, I was able to get him down to 1 life and lose game 1. Game 2 was just as quick for me, and I was using Highborn Ghoul effectively to get through his 3/3's. He was able to topdeck a Selesnya Keyrune just in time to block my ghoul, and he eventually was able to overrun me for the win.
Result: 0-2 Loss
Final Result: 4-1 in rounds. 8-3 in games. 2nd place overall.

FNM 11.16.12 -- Placed 3rd!!
my_gizmo, 12 years ago
Played at my local fnm last night and placed 3rd out of 17.
Before the FNM I made the following changes:
-3 Titanic Growth -2 Blessings of Nature +4 Ranger's Guile +1 Revenge of the Hunted
I added the Ranger's Guile for protection from the heavy removal/burn spells in my meta. The deck did very well and I was pleased with the results. The only game I lost was to a Jund deck but I had to mull to 4 the first game and I kept one mana lands both games (super bad idea, btw). Other than that I feel good about this deck's potential.

Changes
Hendo741, 12 years ago
Made a few changes such as moving Abrupt Decay main deck. I've been testing this with some friends and it is 10-0 in match play. It has faced mono red aggro, U/W control, R/U/W, U mill, and some randomness.
Thanks for the comments and keep them coming, but please realize that this is not your standard zombie aggro deck and isn't meant to be. Its a zombie aggro semi-reanimator deck. Discarding 2 zombies to feed Lotleth Troll to bring them right back to my hand (or battlefield for Gravecrawler) for one black mana is priceless.

Think we had 28 people - so 5 rounds then top 8.
1st round was against fast green aggro deck. Rancor, Strangleroot Geist, Predator Ooze, Ulvenwald Tracker, Champion of Lambholt, and Giant Growth. I went 2-1 just like last week when I played the same deck. Lot of pressure to get some control fast - but Cyclone Rift is still good early game...especially when they want to Rancor their guy and I rift it response...so Rancor fizzles and goes to graveyard.
2nd round was against that Thragtusk, Wolfir Avenger, Restoration Angel, Strangleroot Geist, Silverblade Paladin, Rancor style deck. I was able to get my aggro out quicker and lock him down...he misplayed when he didn't attack with a bound paladin with 2 rancors because he thought my Precinct Captain was untapped and he didn't want to trade. Saved me a lot of damage first game. 2-0 here.
3rd round was against blue/white control. Pure control. Barely a creature. He ran 2 Jace, Architect of Thought, 2 Tamiyo, the Moon Sage, 4 Dissipate, 4 Syncopate, Oblivion Ring, Detention Sphere, Supreme Verdict, Cyclonic Rift, Think Twice, Sphinx's Revelation, Snapcaster Mage, and Azorius Keyrune. I went 1-2 here. He got a Tamiyo emblem both games he won against me...that makes it impossible to beat a control deck. The time I won was due to starting with 2 Champion of the Parish and a couple other humans. I was just able to blitz him. So annoying on the 3rd match because the entire game I did not draw a Cavern of Souls - really really frustrating when I needed to play my creatures and couldn't really.
4th round was against weenie humans - Hamlet Captain, Champion of the Parish, Mayor of Avabruck Flip, Travel Preparations, Dearly Departed, and Thraben Doomsayer. Pretty easy wins 2-0. My aggro was just as strong (actually he didn't have a way to deal with flying, so Lyev Skyknight bound with a Silverblade Paladin was gg.
5th round was against another green deck. Wolfir Silverheart and the like. So many people playing this style of deck. 2-0
I was ranked 3rd for the top 8 line up and got matched up against a buddy playing black/red zombie/vampires. Gravecrawler, Diregraf Ghoul, Geralf's Messenger, Blood Artist, Falkenrath Aristocrat, Dreadbore, Should have been a good match up for me...but I choked and went 0-2. 2nd game was stuck on 5 mana and had 2 answers in my hand that I needed 6 and 7 mana for. Terminus and Angel of Glory's Rise - both would have saved me.
I made some trades after and during the matches and acquired two more Terminus, a 4th Cyclonic Rift, 2 Nevermore, a 2nd Isperia, Supreme Judge, and then pulled another Sphinx's Revelation. So I'm going to swap some cards around. I now have 4 rifts, 3 terminus, 3 verdicts to decide upon which will be mainboard and sideboard. Currently running 7 total of those 3 cards. so, maybe I'll do 4 rifts main, 2 terminus main, 1 verdict main, or 3,2,2....not sure, but the others will be sideboard so I can swap in and out between those similar style cards. I'm going to sideboard the extra Sphinx cards and nevermores. The one Nevermore I did side in was always really helpful. I also want to add more aggro to my sideboard for that full control deck - Counterflux would be nice to be able to splash in the sideboard....but I don't want to sideboard red mana plus that...but maybe Elgaud Shieldmate would be a good sideboard - could cast it with the Caverns so it can't be countered, and then make it and another hexproof. And it's still human.

FNM #2
Pelorn, 12 years ago
Played vs:
Esper Tokens 2-0
WGBR Reanimator 2-1
Jund Zombies 2-1
Jund Zombies 1-2
Maybe it's my meta, but aggressive decks seem to be making a resurgence. So, 3x Centaur Healer are back in the maindeck.
Sigarda, Host of Herons was a beast, hexproof flying is amazing in the current meta, especially if we have Gavony Township and maybe Rancor after sideboard.
We trimmed a couple of our singles, namely Entreat the Angels and Collective Blessing.
Rest in Peace is the best sideboard card to have right now. It crushes reanimator, is good vs zombies and UW flash, and can be considered anytime you see Snapcaster Mage, flashback spells, etc, since it doesn't really hurt us to play it.
4 Rancor are now in the side to help us become an aggro deck for when we don't want to go late game. However, I played 3 Garruk, Primal Hunter and might do so again, he was great at dominating the board and maintaining pressure through sweepers.
Pithing Needle is for planeswalkers and Olivia Voldaren, Ray of Revelation is for Detention Sphere and Rancor, but it might get cut.
